Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory and city located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. It has an area of 6.7 km2 (2.6 sq mi) and is bordered to the north by Spain. The landscape is dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar, at the foot of which is a densely populated town area, home to some 32,688 people (2022 estimate), primarily Gibraltarians.

In 1704, Anglo-Dutch forces captured Gibraltar from Spain during the War of the Spanish Succession. The territory was ceded to Great Britain in perpetuity under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. It became an important base for the Royal Navy, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars and World War II, as it controlled the narrow entrance and exit to the Mediterranean Sea, the Strait of Gibraltar, which is only 14.3 km (8.9 mi) wide. This choke point remains strategically important, with half the world's seaborne trade passing through it. Gibraltar's economy is based largely on tourism, online gambling, financial services, and bunkering.

This is the second year for the Scottsdale Mint's production of the lady justice 1 oz silver coin for Gibraltar. There are different depictions of lady justice minted on coins dating back to ancient Roman days. The blindfold in this image symolizes the impartiality that justice should be applied. The scales symolize the balance to the act and the consequences of the act to bring justice. The sword symbolizes authority and the idealism of swift and final justice.

The obverse side features a frosted background with a shiny depiction of a blindfolded lady justice holding balancing scales in her left hand and a sword in her right. She stands in the center with mountains behind her, there are three stars to the left and four stars to the right. The inscription around the top reads JUSTICE and just below center to the left reads FIDES ET JUSTITIA (Faith and Justice) and 2022 to the right.

The Reverse features the Gibraltar coat of arms in the center with 20 at one side of the top and 22 at the other side representing the year 2022. The inscription going around the outside is GIBRALTAR at the top, 1 POUND on the bottom, 1 TROY OUNCE on the left and .999 FINE SILVER on the right.

Another beautiful coin. !CTP

Yes, so many coins so little time.

I have this lovely coin but I just can't find the right theme to catagorize her into a post. 'Gals with sharp pointy things?'

😄 That's a good question.
I have no idea, I never think that far ahead to catagorize my posts.

It's a writing habit I do and it determines how I will present any coin in a post. I like to add value and context on top of just quoting stats. A personal backstory, a fictionalized story, or an expository on the theme or historical significance of the coin. Then I could group them as a future reference. And it keeps me practiced in writing.

That's a great talent to have, I lack imagination for things like that so I just randomly post stuff all over the place. lol

I remember years ago when I was in school I had a lot of trouble with Writing papers. I had a hard time getting through literature classes.
We all have our own things we are good and bad at and for me writing was one that I was bad at.

My nursing work requires a good command of writing for all the paperwork. In highschool I finished at the bottom of my class in English proficiency. When finally I got there I have to keep at it. Dyslexia runs in my family and my sons have it too. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes, thank God for Spell check, just to write a post.

Scottsdale does such nice work for how big they are. Nice grab

Yes, I agree.
They have so much nice stuff and for so many places.

I did not order that, I thought that she was a bit anorexic, hehehe!

🤣😂
I hadn't notice that but now that I look she does look a little thin.

Very nice work!

Thanks, it is a very classy looking coin.

That looks really sick I really need to get me one of those, thanks for sharing that beauty with us

Don't know if they will keep this series going but it could turn into a
silver eagle or britannia like thing. I guess time will tell.

It has good potential for sure

Hello @maddogmike thank you for telling us about this beautiful coin the Gibraltar lady justice 1oz silver coin. It is very cool because I like the lady carrying the sword for protection or swift action. I learn a whole lot about other countries reading your posts Michael. Thank you. It is fascinating to learn about Gibraltar. I looked at the map and zoomed out to see where it is located exactly and then I zoom back in to look at the city. I love looking at maps so this is really fun searching for countries and towns. Gibraltar is a British territory and city. Have a great rest of the week and weekend. Barb 😊 !BBH !CTP

Thanks Barb, glad you are enjoying the posts I get to learn some
things about places when I do the research for these posts also.

When I was much younger and in the military I sailed through the strait of Gibraltar both directions but I wasn't able to see the rock of Gibraltar unfortunately.

You're welcome Mike @maddogmike and glad you enjoy the research too. I bet it was beautiful going through the straight of Gibraltar. Could you see any land? Was the water a more brilliant color or anything? Too bad you could not see the rock. Have a great weekend! 😊 !BBH !CTP
