Problem Statement
Amidst this placement season and the highly pressurized environment, getting jobs and internships is no longer a hard work-based achievement. Instead, due to high competition, it has turned into a luck-based game, leaving talent behind and creating a sense of less self-confidence.
Solution Overview:
ReHive democratizes referrals by using the Hive blockchain to connect job seekers and referrers in a transparent, decentralized system. Job seekers apply for referrals on the platform, paying a small fee in HIVE tokens, while referrers (connected to hiring companies) receive HIVE token rewards for successful referrals.
Workflow:
- Job Seekers:
- Search & Apply: Job seekers browse openings and apply for referrals by submitting a brief application and a small HIVE token fee to cover blockchain transaction costs.
- ATS Check (Optional): An ATS check may screen applications based on the company's process, though human referrals are prioritized.
- Referrers:
- Refer Candidates: Referrers review job seekers and choose whom to refer, initiating an on-chain referral transaction.
- Rewards: Upon successful referral, referrers receive a token reward, with their name attached to the application, boosting its visibility to hiring managers.
Blockchain Integration (Hive):
Two on-chain transactions:
- Application Transaction: Recorded when job seekers apply, covering transaction costs.
- Referral Transaction: Logged when a referral is made, rewarding the referrer.
Transparency and Equity:
The entire process is visible on-chain, ensuring job seekers and referrers can track referrals. A token-based reward system ensures fair compensation for referrers, fostering a supportive, community-driven ecosystem.
Functionalities of Hive
- Authentication:We've integrated HiveSigner for authentication, allowing users to securely log in using their Hive accounts.
- Automated Job Posting: We utilized the
broadcast
API with thecomment
operation to automatically create job posts on Ecency. Whenever a new job is created on our platform, a corresponding post with all the relevant details is generated on our Ecency account, allowing us to share job listings directly with the Hive community. - Reading data from Hive blockchain: We use the
getDiscussions
API from the Hive Database to fetch all open jobs posted on our Ecency account. New job listings are created using thebroadcast api - comment operation
, publishing each job as a post on the Hive blockchain. - Job Application: A job seeker can apply for a position by using the comment operation on a specific job post, submitting their credentials such as name, email, and resume. This process requires Hivesigner authentication. Along with the application, the seeker is also required to pay the application fee to the account hosting all the job posts.
- Job Application Status and Payment: The process begins by fetching all open job posts, followed by retrieving the list of jobs a user has applied to. We then collect all comments on these jobs and extract the first reply to each user's comment. This reply indicates whether the user has been accepted for the position. If accepted, the user will be given an option to confirm receipt of the email, which triggers a payment transfer from our account to the referrer's account.
Why Is It a Business???
- Cost Savings for Employers: The decentralized nature of the platform cuts out traditional recruiters and agencies, making the hiring process faster and cost-effective.
- Incentives for Users: Referrers have financial motivation to actively recommend candidates, increasing platform engagement and usage.
- Scalability: The platform can scale globally, allowing cross-border referrals and payments, broadening the talent pool for employers.
- Multiple Revenue Streams: Transaction fees, premium services, token sales, and data analytics create diverse revenue streams, making the business sustainable and profitable.
Impact
ReHive is transforming the job placement process by making it more equitable and transparent. By decentralizing referrals through blockchain, it empowers job seekers to leverage personal networks while offering referrers tokenized rewards. This reduces reliance on luck and connections, making hiring more merit-based. The platform also speeds up the hiring process and lowers costs, benefiting both companies and candidates. By making referrals more accessible, ReHive enhances opportunities for underrepresented groups and fosters a more inclusive job market.
Event Experience
Working on this project has been incredibly rewarding, as it addresses a problem we’ve personally experienced and feel passionate about. As soon as the idea came to us, we knew we wanted to bring it to life, and finding out about this hackathon gave us the perfect opportunity to dive in and make it a reality.
What did we learn?
Team Coordination: It’s not about having the smartest members, but the most reliable and hardworking ones.
Time Management: Often overlooked, planning is essential. Always have a backup plan when running against the clock.
Coffee: Whether it’s exams or hackathons, coffee keeps us fueled and focused, helping us power through long nights and tight deadlines:)
