About the Monster

Djinn Apprentice
Djinn Apprentice is a rare card which does fairly good damage at level 1 with 2 Magic attack. It gets the Deathblow ability from level 6 and up to 4 Magic attack at level 10. I’m still using the level 1 version of the card.

PositionNameDescription
1Living LavaIt has has 6 Health, 2 Shield and the Shield ability against melee attacks. It’s my favourite Fire Splinter tank.
2Lava LauncherIt has 3 attack, 6 Health and 6 Shield and the Close Range ability, which makes it great as the secondary tank.
3Djinn ApprenticeIt's here to do Magic attacks to bypass shields.
4Djinn InferniAnother great card here to do Magic attacks. It has the Giant Killer ability too, which is useful if the opponent uses a Monster that costs more than 10 mana, which is highly likely given the 60 Mana Cap.
5Countess SinashIt does 3 ranged damage and has the Snipe ability to try to take out the opponent's ranged or magic monsters early. It can't be targetted until it's at first position too.
6TinderlockOne of my favourite Riftwatchers card. It has the Close Range and Last Stand ability.

Strategy

The high mana cap and the fact that it is limited to the Fire Splinter meant that the opponent is likely to use a deck made up of mainly Magic and Ranged attacks. Most of the high mana cards for the Fire Splinter are for Magic and Ranged cards. As such, my strategy is similar too, and I tried to choose high mana cards with high damage.

I thought I might lose when I saw Grum Flamblade as the opponent's main tank. Luckily for me, I did manage to take him out soon after my tank was down. Djinn Inferni did not attack at the right time for the Giant Killer ability to be truly effective. The key to winning the battle was actually Tinderlock with its Last Stand ability, and that it was able to attack at close range.

Thoughts on the card

I think that Djinn Apprentice is a wonderful card to have, as the Fire Splinter doesn't have too many of the magic attack cards. It's one of the few modern Fire Splinter cards with better Magic attack power.
