Splinterlands - Is the chaos legion Grund card worth 4x more than the other epic cards of the same edition?

in #splinterlands3 years ago

Let's talk about Grund, an epic card from the chaos legion edition that is worth up to 4x the value of other epic cards from the same edition, but is it really worth all that?

First let's try to understand why it is worth so much compared to the others.

imag 2.png

As shown in the image above, Grund is an epic card from the earth deck and has a cost of 10 mana, because it is a very high cost and also being one of the few cards in splinterlands that has a cost of 2 digits already makes it a little special but I don't think it's enough to have that value.

Now let's talk about her Stats, as you can see she has very strong stats but it's not surprising since her mana cost is very high, but what catches my attention is that at level 1 she has 3 attack, 3 speed and 10 health, while at level 6 which is the maximum level it has 4 attack, 3 speed and 13 health, in my opinion it is a very small difference but there is the advantage that even in leagues like bronze she's pretty strong but that means in major leagues like gold and above she might not be that good, will her skills make up for it?

imag 3.png

Its first skill is the double strike and this allows this card to attack 2x per round, I consider it very strong especially in leagues like bronze and silver where the cards don't usually have much hp or defense so it can be an asset but in bigger leagues I don't think it's a big deal.

Your second skill is the trample that allows you to attack again when you defeat a monster, I consider this skill good but it can only be used on this card from level 4, that is, only from the gold league and in this league I don't think this card is so strong since it has a high mana cost but the game can change if you have the explosive weaponry rule where all cards on the field gain the blast skill, so in this particular rule I consider that the Grund can show his true power as he will attack 2x and in addition it has a chance to attack once more if it defeats the opponent, besides that it will be dealing damage to the enemy behind in the meantime thus making it easier for the second enemy to also be defeated and this becomes a cycle.

And finally, we have the cripple ability where it allows the card to decrease the enemy's maximum health by 1 for each attack it makes, here I already think it's very advantageous to use Grund since in addition to attacking twice and still having the chance to attack 3 it will decrease the enemy's health by 1 for each attack, if it has 4 attack then it will take 8 damage attacking twice and still take 2 more life from the enemy card which makes it easier for it to be defeated and the trample ability be activated so that he attacks the next card taking 4 damage and taking 1 from max life as well, but unfortunately the cripple skill is only used at the maximum level of the card and can only be used in diamond league or above where I don't consider Grund being priority in my deck.

In summary I consider it a good card despite its high mana cost, but I consider it stronger in leagues like bronze and silver or in specific battles like the explosive weaponry rule, but I wouldn't put it as a priority in leagues above that.

This is just my opinion, but let's get to know a little more about Grund.

Grund has spent his entire life in the lowlands of Praetoria and has grown to love the land and its people. First introduced to the lore of battle as a hatchling, he has studied it ever since with enthusiasm. When he became a juvenile his hands found steel, an old rusting sword abandoned and forgotten in the swamp by some intrepid explorer. Before long it became an extension of himself as he applied all he had learnt, quickly mastering blade work. From then on, he became obsessed with the art of armed combat and he practised with any weapons he could get his hands on.

When he first met Bera Dallin in New Everitt he couldn’t help but marvel at her martial prowess. After having spent some time with her he became proficient in the use of the warhammer. His great strength meant that he could hold one in a single hand and so it wasn’t long before he acquired another and began to dual wield them in combat.

Grund is well loved amongst the people of Praetoria and he is a staunch defender of them, his strong ideals of honour and justice infused within in from a young age. When he heard of the Chaos Legion invasion, Grund took up his hammers in anger and sought them out immediately.
Shadows came from everywhere, spilling over the small wall that used to keep the wild animals at bay and clambering over the outbuildings that held the settler’s stock of animals. The smallholding hadn’t been built for long but the people had hoped that because of its vicinity to Mount Praetorous, the area would soon grow and become busy with trade, especially considering the earth was so fertile here. But now a strange light had appeared in the distant sky and hordes of monsters had descended upon the land.

Gasps of fear and sobbing sounded behind him as the pack of dark creatures encircled them. The snarling, howling and spitting, causing the children to scream, their cries only increasing the fervour of the fell beasts that stalked them. Grund widened his stance and gripped the warhammers, feeling the leather creak beneath his strong grasp. This is what he had sort ever since the portal had opened, an opportunity to save the people, a chance to smash the enemy into annihilation.

As the first wave came at him, he spun to meet them, his hammers crushing flesh and bone, sending broken bodies flying through the air. More and more pressed in upon him but he only laughed, his attack becoming a dance of death, the righteous energy inside of him spilling forth and feeding his strength. When he was done the enemy lay everywhere, the dead broken, the dying wailing with their last breaths. He looked to the others that crouched beyond the wall and beckoned them forward, uncertainty now in their eyes.

“Is this all you’ve got?” he called. “Please tell me this is not your best and you have more to offer.”

Nice analysis! This card looks powerful but it's hard to justify buying it when you can get some legendaries for less.

This post really helps in making an educated choice in buying it or not

Yes, there are many other cards with much more uses and much lower prices to obtain and I also rarely see this card in battles so I don't understand this value, but usually cards with 10+ mana cost have high values.
