we want to share some of the changes we have made and discuss a couple of features that relied heavily on daily rentals and where we stand with those. The splinterlands users voted to make this switch to daily rental and we respect their vote and are working on the changes that come from that.
REMOVAL OF DAILY RENTALS OPTION
These changes are already live.
Removal of a feature that has been deeply embedded into stats and other features takes some time however we are well through getting most of that work done. Obviously the biggest thing is to disable usage of the actual rental page for daily rentals and default to season rental options.
It also requires removing some filters on different pages
KEEPING DAILY RENTAL FILTER ON COLLECTION
Some daily rentals are still happening because they had been requested for a long period in advance. We still support your ability to view those rentals in your collection. Technically users are still able to renew daily rentals owners just can't add new rentals to the market.
ABOUT RENTAL BIDS
When we developed rental bids only daily rentals existed. When seasonal rentals started it would have taken us a some solid time to extend the feature to seasonal rentals. There was not enough action in seasonal rentals at that time and little to no users requesting it.
**Will we add this feature now? **
We want to hear from our users of how many users are interested? We kept stats and the number of auto-bid rentals wasn't very high. It may not make economic sense for us to create this feature but we add lots of features to PeakMonsters.com that don't make us a profit compared to time and energy to create things that we feel will help the Splinterlands ecosystem. Perhaps the community feels that rental bids will help the new user that doesn't have funds to compete against bots that can snatch up low priced rentals that enter the market while they sleep.
So with that said we are willing but it's not a given as the fees earned will not cover cost of implementation.
Proposal Side-Note
We hope that the Splinterlands community understand they can run proposals in the DAO to pay for us to create things for the community we are very willing and we are fast and efficient and we want to see Splinterlands succeed and there is an interest in making Splinterlands players happy with our services. There are potentially many features that save players time and energy.
VIABLE ALTERNATIVE: QUICK DECK RENTALS
There is a feature that possibly saves more time than auto rentals
Users can create a deck of the cards they like the most and simply click the RENT ALL button.
This could save way more time than setting up rental bids and managing and editing those bids over time.
Rent All in a deck is faster and easier for most people. It's smart enough to know when you have that card already and will skip it and you don't have to hit RENT ALL you can click pretty quickly on the individual cards you want.
EDUCATIONAL: If you make videos or posts about using this feature please share with us so we can reshare your content.
HOWEVER... rental bids (if you set a well educated and cheap price) has the capacity to be less expensive so there can still be a need.
ABOUT ARPA (Auto Repricing of Rentals)
Auto repricing was developed to save card owners a lot of time AND it was also developed to help the health of the rental market because many owners were setting a rental and leaving it be and sometimes those prices were not realistic and throwing off the health of a market that finds power in being able to smoothly adapt to supply and demand... meanwhile prices of many cards were stagnant set based off of ignorance or market information from months or years go. Auto repricing isn't just good at saving time it helped to make the ecosystem more healthy.
ARPA was developed before season rentals existed
It was never extended to Season Rentals.
Technical Side
Timing: Daily rentals are paid for and committed to the renter for 2 days and the owner can remove and reprice and new price will be there at the end of those 2 days. This means there is quite a bit of work that repricing daily rentals had that seasonal would not have... Owners basically have 15 days to make a decision. This means the need to save time is greatly diminished. Are users still interested? Probably some still are but the impact is certainly smaller.
Date Needs: When the system reprices cards it looks at recent activity in the rental market OR price of rentals that are on the market right that second. In both cases the more information the better the system does.
When land came out (after we developed the automated price adjuster) many of the older editions went in mass over to lands and left the rental market while the remaining ones stayed predomentaly unrented for guild players needing them. This means that in some older editions and with some cards (gold foil in particular) there is little to ZERO information for us to help users wanting to reprice those cards.
Population of Seasonal Rentals: We are also waiting to see the quantity of cards that get moved over to seasonal rentals see if the quantities give us enough data and show a healthy interest by players.
Limits on Pricing: Another new update is that Splinterlands community voted to limit rentals to a minimum of 1 dec. This means that a huge number of cards are no longer viable for rental unless they are leveled up perhaps maxxed out. No one is going to list a card to rent when it costs 1dec to list and 1 dec to change rental price specially if the low level card costs even as low as 7 dec to buy. So there is a level of card that remains viable but the number of those cards in total has greatly decreased since ARPA was built.
Separate Server: We have been operating near or at a loss with this feature when considering the server costs we have had and with so many large card holders switching their excess cards to land.
Verdict: We could do the work to build a repricer for seasonal rentals but would likely need to limit it to editions where there is a lot of action. Similar to the other features we wait to see the response.
ANYTHING ELSE
Daily Rentals had filters, stats, pages built to support it... we have missed some stuff so if you see anythign we forgot to remove or don't have a message attached to then please let us know.
I think ARPA is essential for the health of the rental market, and would like to see a proposal for the DAO to support you guys to extend it to season rentals.
First of all, thanks for making splinterlands playable for large collectors!
My input would be that the quick deck rentals option sounds like a great time saver, probably more useful than the rental bids option.
On ARPA, I would say only chaos forward is likely worth the effort. Untamed and earlier have decent land boosts, so a lot of those cards are likely to not be on the rental market, and it would be really difficult to have enough data to auto price efficiently.
The BID system is the best thing in Splinterlands for me. It's magnificent to be able to optimize costs by placing pre-set orders, and I hope this feature will be implemented again ❤️
Thanks for the update. This helps when making a decision about the best place to move cards to. At the moment I'm testing out Survival Mode but may want to rent out cards again in the future. I'd probably be insterested in renting out cards that aren't good on land.
we have been having a really informative conversation particularly about RENTAL BIDS on the peak discord channel for those who want to join.
