1) Try Before You Buy - The good thing about Splinterlands is you have an option to rent cards. You do not have to blow a significant amount of credits or Dark Energy Crystals on a card and then later on realize that it is not that good or does not fit your strategy.

2) Buy a Summoner's Spellbook - It is only $10 and will enable you to do quests and earn Dark Energy Crystals. If you play a lot, you will get your ROI (Return On Investment) fairly quickly.

3) Sell or Rent Out Unused Cards - You won't use every card in your collection and it is a good idea to monetize it by selling it outright or by renting it out so you can purchase the cards you need.

4) Be An Opportunist - When you see the cards you need at an optimal price grab them, you may never see them at that price again or you may wait for a long time to once again gain that opportunity.

5) Strategize - One of the best strategies is to place a tank in front and ranged attackers behind. A tank is usually a melee creature or a non-attack creature with a high health count. Ranged attackers are those with a purple cloud or an archery range target.

6) Use Neutral Creatures - Neutral creatures can be used in every battle so long as there are no stipulations they cannot be used. Two of the most popular ones are the Furious Chicken and Creeping Ooze. Secure those as soon as possible. The Furious Chicken is a good chump blocker and Creeping Ooze slows down your opponent's creatures.

7) Observe the Metagame - Every card game like Magic: the Gathering, Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh has a metagame where you see certain popular decks or cards being used very frequently. You can base your deckbuilding by either copying or countering these strategies.

8) Be Observant - Take note of the best combination of cards for the various splinters. Playing with the more veteran players can teach you a lot.

9) Learn the Game - There are various articles all over Hive Blog and various You Tube videos that teach you proper strategy. Do your research to avoid mistakes.

10) Get a Hive Keychain and Hive Tokens - One issue you will run into when you play a lot of Splinterlands is that you will run out of RC (Resource Credit). Resource Credit enables you to buy, sell, rent and play Splinterlands. In order to avoid this issue, you need to stake $10-$20 worth of Hive Tokens using your Hive Keychain.
