The Chaos Legion is quickly descending upon the Splinterlands, and we are happy to announce the details of the new core set of cards and the upcoming presale so that players can be well prepared before they arrive!
Set Info
The total number of packs planned to be released for the Chaos Legion set is 15M. This is 10X the number of Untamed edition packs that were released. Each pack will contain 5 cards randomly chosen from the Chaos Legion set with one card guaranteed to be rare or better and the same chances of receiving a rare, epic, legendary, and gold foil card as in all previous editions.
Chaos Legion card packs will cost $4.00 USD each once they are available for sale in the Splinterlands shop. We understand that some players may not be happy with the increase in price as compared to previous edition packs, however after a thorough review of the entire Splinterlands game economy it was clear that a higher price was necessary to avoid a number of potential issues that did not exist with previous pack editions.
The total number of packs available was also adjusted downwards to account for the higher pricing, so overall there will be fewer Chaos Legion cards available but hopefully they will be more valuable than if the price remained at $2.00 / pack as it was in previous editions.
Once released, packs will be available to be purchased in the Splinterlands shop using Credits (which can be purchased using some fiat payment options as well as a wide variety of cryptocurrencies), Splintershards (SPS), and Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) tokens which will be valued at the current external market rate.
As with past pack sets, there will also be bonus packs given out for larger pack purchases in a single transaction. The bonus levels are planned to be as follows:
- 100 - 499 - 10% additional pack bonus
- 500 - 1999 - 15% additional pack bonus
- 2000+ - 20% additional pack bonus
Airdrops
Similar to what was done with the Untamed and AZMARE Dice editions, new cards will be introduced periodically over the life of the edition and airdropped to players who have previously purchased Chaos Legion packs.
There will be a total of 13 airdrop cards released as part of the Chaos Legion set as well as one special limited-edition promo card that will be airdropped at the end of the presale (more details on that below). A new card will be released and airdropped to all previous pack purchasers after the next batch of 1M Chaos Legion packs have been sold.
This mechanism strongly encourages and rewards players for purchasing Chaos Legion packs early as each of the first 1M packs purchased will have a chance of receiving ALL 14 airdrop cards!
Combine Rates, Collection Power, and DEC Burn Rates
The new Chaos Legion cards will have half the Collection Power and DEC burn value of the previous Untamed edition cards. The reduction in Collection Power and DEC burn rate is necessary to both help maintain the value of the older card editions as well as to adjust for the significant increase in the DEC external market price that we have seen over the past few months. Additionally, the Collection Power & DEC burn rate of gold foil cards will be 25x the regular foil version of the cards rather than 50x as it has been in the past. The new rates are shown for each type of card in the table below:
Rarity | Reg. Foil | Gold Foil |
---|---|---|
Common | 5 | 125 |
Rare | 20 | 500 |
Epic | 100 | 2,500 |
Legendary | 500 | 12,500 |
The combine rates for the Chaos Legion cards (the number of cards necessary to combine together to reach the next level) will remain the same as they have been for the Untamed edition. Also, please note that each Chaos Legion pack held in players' in-game inventory or on external platforms will be worth 300 Airdrop Points for the daily SPS airdrop.
Presale
The Chaos Legion presale will allow players to purchase Chaos Legion packs before the set is released and before the packs can be opened and will come with a number of exciting benefits and bonuses for buying early!
1M out of the total 15M available Chaos Legion packs will be available to purchase in the presale and we expect the presale to last for 30 days. If not all of the 1M presale packs are purchased in the 30 day presale period, then the remaining packs will become available for sale as normal but without any of the additional presale perks.
Chaos Legion packs will be priced at $4.00 USD each during the presale, and will be able to be purchased using Credits, DEC, or SPS, and there will be a 10% discount for any presale pack purchases made using the Splintershards (SPS) token. Please note that this will only apply to packs purchased directly with SPS (which will be one of the available purchase options), and not to packs purchased with Credits even if those Credits were purchased with SPS tokens.
Additionally, large purchases of presale packs in a single transaction will also be eligible to receive bonus packs, at the same rate as after the presale as listed above, but any bonus packs that are awarded will not count towards the 1M packs that are available to be purchased in the presale. Bonus packs will still be eligible for all pack-based presale rewards as described below.
While Chaos Legion presale packs will not be able to be opened until the set is released, they will still be able to be transferred and tokenized on the Hive Engine platform and the WAX blockchain where they can be bought and sold on third party markets.
Vouchers
In addition to the purchase price, players will also need to spend a new VOUCHER token for each Chaos Legion presale pack they wish to purchase. 33,333.333 VOUCHER tokens will be created daily over the course of the 30 presale period (1M VOUCHER tokens in total) and will be awarded to all players who have SPS tokens staked in their in-game account based on the amount staked as a percentage of the total staked across all players in the game.
VOUCHERS are essentially a measurement of Stake-Days. The point is to incentive the behavior that we want our community to engage in: stake SPS tokens for a long time. This system essentially tokenizes the exact highest and best action the community can engage in, and going forward VOUCHERS will play a crucial element in sales, promotions, and rewards in the game.
Example of earning VOUCHERS: if there are a total of 100M SPS tokens staked across all players in the game, then a player who has 100k SPS tokens staked accounts for 0.1% of the total and would therefore receive 33.333 VOUCHER tokens (0.1% of 33,333.333) each day over the presale period.
VOUCHER tokens will be fungible tokens that can be transferred, traded, and bought or sold on third party markets such as Hive Engine. Each Chaos Legion presale pack purchased will require one VOUCHER token to be spent, so players who earn fractions of a VOUCHER token (as in the example above) can either sell their tokens on a third-party market, wait until they accumulate a whole token from the daily award, or purchase the remainder that they need from third-party markets.
Please note that accounts with over 1M SPS tokens staked will be counted as only having 1M SPS staked for the purposes of the VOUCHER token awards in order to spread the tokens a bit more evenly among the player base. Megawhales and krakens can shift their SPS if they feel slighted or be more altruistic and keep their SPS on one account despite some loss of VOUCHER earnings. We leave it up to them to decide what's right for them.
Finally, we intend to keep the VOUCHER system in place even after the Chaos Legion presale ends and the set is released into the game. We expect that VOUCHER tokens will still be needed to purchase Chaos Legion packs for some time after the set is released as a way to help meter-out the release of the edition and not have the market be flooded with too many new cards right away.
We also anticipate that VOUCHER tokens may be used for various other benefits in the game going forward, and they will continue to be earned by holding staked SPS tokens and may also be available via liquidity pools and other sources in the future. More details about future use of VOUCHER tokens will be available as that gets closer.
Presale Rewards
Players that purchase Chaos Legion packs during the presale (before the cards are released and before the packs can be opened) will be eligible to receive a number of rewards for participating early.
First, all packs purchased during the presale (including bonus packs received) will be eligible for a chance to receive ALL 13 new cards that will be airdropped every time the next 1M Chaos Legion packs are sold over the life of the set.
Additionally, all packs purchased during the presale will have a chance of receiving a special limited-edition promo card that will be airdropped at the end of the presale. Unlike normal airdropped cards, the limited-edition promo card will NOT be available in Chaos Legion packs going forward, so the ONLY way to get one is by buying packs during the presale.
Each pack purchased during the presale (including bonus packs) will have a 2% chance of receiving a limited-edition promo card, and each of those will have a 2% chance of being a gold foil version (1 out of 50 on average). Accounts that have purchased 50 or more packs during the presale will be guaranteed to receive at least one limited-edition promo card for EACH 50 packs purchased, and accounts that purchase 1000 or more packs during the presale will be guaranteed to receive at least one gold foil limited-edition promo card for each 1000 packs purchased.
Finally, each account that purchases 1000 or more packs during the presale will receive one "The Legionnaire" in-game title NFT for each 1000 packs purchased, and the top 6 accounts with the most Chaos Legion packs purchased during the presale will be able to work with the Splinterlands team to design their own Legendary Summoner card which will be added into the Chaos Legion set as one of the 13 airdrops to be released over the life of the set.
Presale Timing
The Chaos Legion presale is currently scheduled to begin on Monday, October 18th, 2021. VOUCHER tokens will be given out daily starting on that day through Wednesday, November 17th, 2021 (30 days in total), and then the Chaos Legion presale packs will still be available to purchase for an additional week until Wednesday, November 24th, 2021 to allow players time to acquire or sell the final VOUCHER tokens given out.
The limited-edition promo card and the title will be airdropped / awarded to presale pack purchasers once the Chaos Legion set is fully released into the game, the exact date of which is still TBD.
Card Design Goals
The Chaos Legion edition marks the second time in the game's history where an entire, full set of new cards is being added to the game. We have three goals in mind when designing the new set of cards:
They should be strong and desired cards in the game so that both new and existing players will be motivated to purchase packs and to buy them on the market.
They should be sufficient for new players, meaning that they will provide everything needed for new players to participate in the game and be competitive.
They should be different and/or complimentary to the existing sets of cards, meaning that it will be necessary to have a wide array of cards from the existing editions in order to be able to construct the best team for all ruleset and mana cap combinations and compete at the highest levels of play.
Balance Updates
The Splinterlands team will be doing as much review and play testing of the new cards as possible before the official launch; however, we can never fully predict what types of card combinations our hundreds of thousands of very creative players will come up with.
As we have said repeatedly in the past, we will adjust the stats and abilities on certain cards when we feel it is necessary to maintain a fun and balanced game for all players. We understand that this can affect the market prices of the affected cards, and so we try to keep these changes to an absolute minimum, however we will always prioritize a fun and balanced game over any individual card.
Our general preference is to introduce new cards that can act as counters for existing, overpowered cards, when and if they come up, but with an entirely new core set of cards there is definitely more of a chance for issues that should be addressed more quickly. We also very much look forward to the addition of the SPS proposal and voting system to ultimately turn these decisions over to the player base.
Maintaining Card Values
Whenever a new set of cards is released, there is always some concern about the market values of the older edition cards. While we cannot directly control or predict the prices of assets on third-party markets, it is always one of our primary goals to provide various sources of value and increasing utility of all of the cards over time.
One way we plan to do that is through the 3rd design goal listed above. We expect that new players to the game who want to compete at the highest levels of ranked play and tournaments will need to acquire a good variety of the older edition cards, which will continue to drive utility and value to these cards.
Additionally, older edition cards provide more airdrop points in the daily SPS airdrop which will continue well into next year, and the older edition and more rare cards will also provide significant bonuses when used to work on land in the new Splinterlands land expansion that is also in development.
Finally, when Chaos Legion is released, the Beta edition cards will provide a small bonus to DEC earned for each card used in a ranked battle win, and soon that bonus will also apply to SPS tokens earned in ranked battle wins as well!
New Ranked Play Format
When Chaos Legion is released, Splinterlands will split the ranked battles and two week seasons into two different formats - Modern Format, and Wild Format. Players will be able to choose in which format they wish to play on the battle screen in the game.
The Modern Format will only allow cards from the Untamed, Azmare Dice, and Chaos Legion editions, as well as the newer Reward edition cards, and any new cards added into the game until the next core set is released after Chaos Legion sells out. The easiest way to tell if a card is allowed in Modern Format battles is if it has the Untamed edition card frame or the new Chaos Legion card frame.
The Wild Format will allow ALL cards in the game to be used, from Alpha through Chaos Legion.
Each edition will have its own, separate DEC reward pool, as well as its own separate SPS reward pool once SPS rewards for ranked battles are released. More details about the separate formats and the rewards will be available as Chaos Legion gets closer to final release.
Additionally, please note that when Chaos Legion is released, the cards that are able to be used in battle even if players do not own them (often referred to as "phantom" or "starter" cards) will change from the Beta and Untamed edition to the Untamed and Chaos Legion editions. This means that players will be able to use common and rare cards from these editions in battles even if they do not own those cards.
SPS Utility
The VOUCHER system for Chaos Legion presale pack purchases, in addition to the 10% discount for purchasing Chaos Legion presale packs with SPS tokens are just some of the first ways that the SPS token, and SPS stake, will be utilized within the Splinterlands game.
The Splinterlands team plans to use the same VOUCHER system, or something very similar, for providing early access to limited releases for new items and features and we also plan to provide discounts and other incentives for spending SPS tokens for purchases in many different areas of the game in the future, where appropriate.
Stay tuned for more updates from the Splinterlands!

Espero haber ayudado!
Ya que suben el precio al doble se podían haber marcado el detalle de meter una carta más en el pack...
Where does the "bonus" presale packs come from.
I suspect out of the overall supply but I don't see that mentioned?
I understand the increase and logic behind it. I think $3.00 would of been more reasonable. Doubling the price is a big jump. This increase also doubles the amount of USD that is needed to be spent before a bonus is given. (current) 100 packs $400 for 10% bonus vs. (past) $200 Spent for 10% bonus. I would of liked to see a small decrease in price for presale packs vs. regular sale as what was done for land. Example $3 presale packs / $4 regular sale. I think it would of made for some extra FOMO on top of the FOMO that is already created.
(I can hear aggroed in the back saying,"No Rentmoney, You can't have more for less :). I'd also like to see the presale stretched to 6-8 weeks. Stretching the presale will also stretch the new editions booster sales lifespan which seems in line with all the changes announced in the topic. On top of all that I would also like to say, GOOD JOB, yous are doing amazing considering all that needs to be done to please us crazy fanatic monster maniacs. I know I said this in the past but I feel as it needs to be pointed out when possible, Don't forget to sit back and enjoy your handy work. Yous are changing lives with helping people become "pro" gamers and self employed. Thanks for all you do.
Alternate suggestion for booster sales.
Imagine the FOMO the above would create.
That would create some insane fomo. First million and nobody is too worried. Next one goes a lot faster and people start to take notice and jump in. They fly out in a couple of weeks and people whale in.
They will FOMO for 4$ anyway lol
on wax these packs could be 100$ and folks would probably still fomo in🤣
I like this alternate solution! The sps for governance should be used to make decisions like this.
sucks even more :D
I think there should be not that expensive at all otherwise it will be really hard to compare that TCG to offline ones because this becomes the millionaire version of it.
So offline you're paying $5 per pack, right? That would be the end goal in my opinion. Just shouldn't be more expensive than offline TCGs.
Yes, it would be more expensive than offline TCG however offline TCG's like Yugioh, don't have a "rare or higher each pack" promise. Heck, some of it is 1 rare for the ENTIRE BOX which means in this case, you have higher chance of getting back what you paid for (and more).
What? Ever since the existence of Yugioh, there was a guaranteed rare in a pack. Maybe this is something new that I'm not aware of, but I doubt it.
I'm a yugioh player for more than 10 years and no, it's nto guaranteed to have a rare in a pack. You can get all commons if your luck sucks or worse, you don't get any secret rares on one whole box.
I'm not going to link anything here, but just to be clear, you can search for Yugioh booster pack TCG and open any official info page and you will find this sentence.
Each main series Booster Pack is guaranteed a Rare, 7 Commons, and a ninth card which will either be another Common or a foil card (Super Rare rarity or higher).
I have some unopened packs that I'm so close to opening up just to prove you wrong but that would be a huge lol.
There is even another simple solution you can do. Go on youtube search ANY pack opening video and that's it, I don't think you will need more proof after that.
Also, for booster boxes it says this (on wiki):
If a customer buys a booster box of a pack that contains a Ghost Rare card, they have a 1/36 chance of getting one. The probability of getting {\displaystyle x} Ghost Rares in one box is {\displaystyle (1/36)^{x}}.
Boxes are cheaper per pack and per card than buying booster packs. A booster box of 24 booster packs...
While I didn't find any conclusive info for Secret rares, I'm sure they are maybe two times as likely to show up as Ghost rares. So yeah, there is a decent chance to not see a Secret rare in a box although there is almost always 1 (from my experience).
10 year bro? I mean, what have you been doing for those 10 years then? Not buying packs? xD Just teasing ya :P, but still, you are wrong.
There is other info suggesting there is a limited amount of commons in a pack but, as I said. The easiest way to confirm this is to watch a video of someone opening packs for half an hour xD.
Was hanging out yesterday with a friend that is still an active player so I asked him to clear this guaranteed rare thing for me. Funny enough he was going to open a whole box that day... so he did xD. Well, the result was, every pack a rare, and lucky son of a got 2 Secret rares. I'm not here to gloat, just to share some info :D
So... based on a current 91M SPS currently staked and a daily voucher total of 33,333.
This means 1 voucher = 2.7K SPS = $700 minimum?
👀
😏 In my opinion this is not very fair for newer players. They don’t have many SPS and so many won’t get ANY vouchers while they need them the most to be able to step up in the leagues and build their decks…If you need 2,7k SPS = 700$ to get one Voucher, the boosters get insanely expansive. It is still open what the vouchers will costs if you buying them directly but you will definetely have to pay much more than 4$ to get a Booster.
😔I am quite dissapointed to be honest!
I completely agree with you. For new players, the voucher system is a joke. They have 10-500 SPS and have no chance of getting a voucher.
That would be okay if it only affected the presale, but as I understand it, booster packs will only be available against vouchers even after the presale. You can't be serious. A small account can never buy booster packs like that.
Think of the next generation!
So i staked 30$ into sps. All in all i am at 200 SPS now. They're worth round 70$ which is really great.
So in the whole Presale, I will get around, let's say it's 2,7k SPS for one Voucher a day, 2,2 Vouchers in the whole Presale so i can buy 2 Presale Packs.
Well everyone had the chance to buy more SPS. Prices were crazy low one week ago. Even now is still a chance to buy SPS (i guess) pretty cheap in the long term.
They can just buy them during the regular sale. It'll be fine!
👍🏻 Now that they changed the voucher rules. Yes.
it'll mean small sps stakers may only be able to buy 1 or 2 chaos legion PRESALE packs, kinda sucks but it is what it is I guess, They could buy up some SPS now and get more.
Also depends on how much vouchers on the open market end up being.. which.. god I hope they are NOT $700 lol xD

will be really interesting what the price of 1 voucher will be.
Yup, being a new-ish player, I kinda did the math and I more or less get to earn 1 Voucher at the end of the 30 days period, assuming that the total Staked SPS doesn't increase (which it would just based on math haha).
Ah well, will try to buy some off the market, the Voucher demand is gonna be craaaaazy.
to be fair, there are those who will just say screw it or look to mitigate the risk for their investment and sell their vouchers. the smart move might be to forget about sps staking and just look to buy up vouchers. and there will be those with so little staked that they'll only get .01 or something negligible and will look to sell them.
Yup, just 2 strategies for this I guess.
Buy SPS to earn a voucher (good for long-term since SPS is a governance token)
or
Buy a Voucher directly to prevent from missing out, at the expense of a huge upfront cost for the voucher itself.
yeah the problem is how much vouchers will go on the market. if they start going for too high, everyone will switch to just selling them and we'll be back at problem 1 with only whales getting the presale packs.
GOOD INFO!
Thanks for working that out... I imagine by Mid-October there will be a lot more than 91M staked though.
Yeah, just based on Staking APR of 100% approximately, that's a 0.27% APR per day assuming all holders reinvest. That's.... an additional 245K SPS being deposited each day (more or less), further diluting the share.
This isn't even counting manual deposits from the airdrop hahahaha.
To get the The Legionnaire title during presale (which people will definitely want because of the SPS airdrop benefits) you'd need 1000 vouchers and $4000 USD. To get airdropped 1000 vouchers in that month you'd need to receive 34 vouchers per day. At the current time (91M staked with 1 = 2.7K SPS staked) you'd need to have 81000K SPS staked... which is currently only the top 189 accounts in the game.
sounds great, but it's given that 91M.
now is 95M staked, so basically...
2850 SPS / $1040 (SPS=$0.365) for 1 voucher
You can buy 1K vouchers upfront from market than staking millions of SPS to get couple of vouchers.
Vouchers are just one way to reward SPS stakers. SPS staking rewards was first one. and there will be more ways as time goes on.
IF someone just want CL he can buy vouchers from external market rather than staking SPS, unless he wants to stay in game longterm and have say in things.
Thats just... yikes. I knew it would be a lot, but that's insane. haha.
🤣
Ah well, 189 people (+ a bit more from those really wanting it) makes sense.
Keeps things exclusive for the older players which is... good.
... Whereby these 189 accounts belong to less than 189 people ... :)
Probably more like 12 people. haha.
Vouchers will be fungible and can be bought from external markets. So smart people won't stake SPS just to buy a CL pack. They would rather buy the Voucher from external market.
Also note that the sps you you stake also gives you daily staking rewards and possibly more benefits in future. So staked SPS is not wasted but can be unlocked and sold. Longterm hodlers would prefer staking for additional benefits.
So it's all on people what path they choose.
Without the voucher system only whales would get most of packs in presale. No fish would have the chance.
there is a voucher calculator on splintercards.com at the last time I checked it it was about 1 voucher per 100 sps staked
Thanks for the information!! I had to search a while to find it, so I'm putting the link here so less people don't suffer as I did: https://splintercards.com/tool-vouchers.html?sps=1000
👍
Impressive! A solid use case to see very soon the SPS going through the $1 mark !
You may see the day $1 was insanely cheap for an SPS token.
Hmmm $4 a pack, well that’s fine with me I am in, a coworker will be too.
Might have to do a side gig for extra $$ cause I want my Chaos Legion cards!!!
Generally I like it and look forward to CL.
But still, I am wondering, how newer players (like me) should ever be able to play in Diamond+ with the current Power requirements? You have to buy cards for thousands of Dollars to participate in this leagues. That´s not reasonable...
And with every new player in the game, it gets worse.
Of course, you can rent cards, but actually this is not really fun, because you always have to check, if nothing gets canceled etc. At least this is not gaming fun to me and with current rent prices also not economical great.
CL will change nothing in this, as the new cards are useless in regards to POWER. :-/
edit: Or will Modern Format-Leagues have lower Power requirements?
From what I understand, I'm not holding my breath that I'd be able to purchase a CL pack, unless a shell out an insane amount of money to either buy vouchers, or purchase and stake a huge amount of SPS for a chance to get some. :(
Just started a week ago and only have starter cards, and a few that I got from chests, along with some SPS.
The vouchers are only for buying presale packs (buying presale packs gives additional bonuses/drops), once the presale is over you will be able to buy as many packs as you want without vouchers.
You can also create/post content on the social media front ends of the HIVE blockchain to earn HIVE and you can use that HIVE to buy more cards if you choose to.
I just upvoted your comment, in 7 days you will be able to collect the reward of my upvote.

I want to say that I recognize a lot of issues needed to be thought through and handled with this release. I think you did a very good job. This is very "SPS staker" friendly, and is pro "card hodler" of all sets. So I love how those are always main considerations by the Devs, and I appreciate how much respect you give to the people that support you! Excellent work @yabapmatt and @aggroed (and the rest of the team!)
Great to see the set increased but still with a focus on scarcity. Love the sps staking voucher tokens!
I'm so confused...
Which is it, more or less?
I could be wrong but I believe they meant to say that the overall CL boosters would of been higher if they kept the booster price at $2.00 USD. Thus less CL boosters for sale then they orginally planned due to booster price increase.
They say it's 10x more cards, then it says less cards. Makes no sense.
Perhaps could have written it better but most of us understood what they meant. They should have done 30 million packs to represent what happened to the player base in the last 60 days etc.
But they decided to print way less packs which is going to cause a bit of a pack shortage.
It sounds like they were implying they printed 10X more than Untamed, but in the end printed less and doubled the price. It's very confusing.
Yeah I guess for people not really involved with the game it would be confusing the way they wrote it... made sense to most of the rest of us. Sorry it was hard to understand for you hope I helped clear it up a little bit.
I understand now, but at first it was confusing.
$4 USD. That's just a little over 600 DEC at the current market price.
lol, thats cheaper than a fucking questpotion!
My guy, that made me chuckle so hard😄 Does anyone even purchase those potions anymore after coins were dropped? Doubt it.
I joined splinter lands but have not began the game yet only because of numerous distraction s. But this looks so insanely good I can find time surely.
hallo, ja endlich! neue details! Freu mich drauf! 😃
Damn, buy these SPS before they skyrocket!
Just got 4.8K more SPS... just to be sure that I have enough... 😅
Sounds like SPS will skyrocket.
It looks like everyone will win.
I'm glad we have geniuses running the show.
Thanks for update.
I am so stoked!!!
Here's the Splinterlands Chaos Legion Voucher Calculator to see an estimate of vouchers you'll get airdropped:

really amazing updates!
It is somewhat unclear to me how the split up of ranked battles will affect the playing experience, but I suppose there is a reason for that with the progression of new cards
I'm looking forward to being one of those players that can say, "I remember way back before Chaos Legion even came out, SPS was only $0.25, and Llama-Kron was still a big deal."
totally agree! we are now all og
SPS going to be on a proper BullRun pretty soon
Hi team! This is all amazing!
A question on the below...
and
There is so much to unpack here, but I'm not sure I understand these points combined. When it says 'fewer Chaos Legion cards available' does that mean the amount of cards available in the edition? If there were 82 different types of cards in Untamed, we can expect less than 82 different cards in Chaos Legion?
Thanks for this amazingly detailed post!!
My guess is they were probably thinking on having even more chaos legion packs like 30 million or so, but later decided to reduce the amount of packs and increase the price.

Ahhhhhh, I hadn't thought of that... but that could very well be what they are saying.
Thanks!
based on the influx of new players, 30 million packs would serve the same as the 1.5 million untamed packs... so these cards will be scarce in the grand scheme of things.
That makes sense... thanks for this clarification. That helps put it into perspective.
SPS to the moon! Can't wait for this to start!
Already brought up a bunch myself, I'm sooo glad I had some liquid hive and am already powering down, was going to offload into fiat but now.. some of it is going into chaos legion packs. :D

Took some time to read all but what i read sounds good for me. Maybe someone can explain me the Voucher Token a little bit more. Ok with this token i can *buy (edited) the presale packs. And there are more plans for the token. But what happens with the left over Tokes. We have 15Mil Packs and 33Mil Tokens, are they also used for exapmple for upcomings pre sale packs or what happens with them? Sould i stay with the tokens even if the people opened the packs or should i sell all tokens before this happens. Many Questions, but maybe i get it after some time 😅
each presale pack will cost $4 worth of dec/sps etc depending on what you pay with AND 1 Voucher token. It's not needed to OPEN the pack.
It's basically a way of gating the presale and making sure everyone has a change to buy a pack or two.
There are actually only going to be 1Mil voucher tokens same and there are presale packs, left over ones after the presale is over may have other uses later where they will probably also print more Voucher tokens as well anyways.

Thanks for the answer. I misunderstood some things but now its clear for me 😀
Thank you for clarifying this.
"players will also need to spend a new VOUCHER token for each Chaos Legion presale pack they wish to purchase. 33,333.333 VOUCHER tokens will be created daily over the course of the 30 presale period (1M VOUCHER tokens in total)"
So:
To me it sounds like a way for them to prevent people with lots of $$$ from immediately buying all the presale packs, because you need 1 voucher to buy 1 presale pack and only way to get vouchers is to stake SPS, so even people with lots of SPS staked will be limited to how many presale packs they will buy, and people who have a little staked will at least have a chance to get a few vouchers and buy presale packs. It just seems like a way to slow down the purchase of presale packs for a slightly more even distribution, rather than the richest players buying all 1 million presale packs on day 1....
This is the most complicated set release in the history of card games lol. I really hope this won't scare off more than 50% of the player base away from it. I mean, come on, so many steps. Stake this token, to get the other token, to buy something else to then get something else to buy the pack. Kinda crazy. I'm not new to this space but even I'm disliking this solution. Imagine a newcomer and how overwhelmed they are going to feel. I'm really skeptical, but we'll see.
I think what has not been really discussed by now is that it is said there will not be any fixed amount of DEC/SPS for buying new packs, but they will be regarded as any other cryptocurrency according to their third-party-marketprice
Necessary so that the old cards do not become worthless. But overall I think it's quite fitting. Even the the price change and i am not a whale :D
Yeah true. But I didn't expect double the price.
It's a bit too much imho.
I dont know, if every collection has there own pool, there will be always basic demand for that. No matter what the new cards cost.
Special if everyone use new cards, the rewards become super low compared to older editions.
Totally with you bro
Ouch.....
At least im ready to land expansion 😉
How much SPS do we actually need to have stacked in order to be able to purchase at least 1 pack?
I think it depends if people will be able to accumulate fractions of a voucher per day or not.
Based on my understanding, you will only need to have staked SPS to buy Chaos Legion packs if you are buying in the pre-sale.
So to buy 1 pack during the pre-sale, it will depend on how many voucher tokens you have earned which is based on the percentage of the SPS you have staked out of the total global staked SPS. 1 Voucher token = 1 Pack.
The question therefore should be, how much staked SPS do I need to earn 1 or more voucher tokens a day?
Yes ... but you can buy packs in second hand markets and that won't require any SPS. But with that said i'll be staking more SPS.
Agreed! Buying in pre-sale is probably the best value for money though. 10% discount when using SPS to buy plus the numerous benefits of buying in pre-sale is just too good a deal. :)
I wonder though if the vouchers won't skew the pre-sale packs for Megawhales who will have the upper hand buying up most of the packs early before everybody else earns 1 or more voucher tokens?
There are 1M packs and 1M vouchers, megawhales cannot buy without the vouchers so everybody can get some packs in the presale. 😄
Yes so basically: Nobody can buy a pack from your vouchers. Or: There will always be a pack for you if you have a voucher :D
follow what jarvie said :D
though I knew that too
As for now, it's 200 SPS for one voucher per 30 days.
If you only want one pack voucher, you would need about 0.033 voucher a day during the month of the airdrop. The amount of SPS staked will probably change a ton over the next few weeks but you'd probably be alright with a pretty small amount. Probably won't even need more than like 20...

Gold foil have less and less power
It might be ok if power requirement for Modern Format lower
But if still the same requirement
You need to buy more packs with 2x price :,(
That's a big issue. When you have several thousands worth of card and you cant ever be in masters, it's completely out of touch with reality. Not everyone is a baller.
Just my opinion
APPROX. 3000 SPS = 1 VOUCHER
1 SPS = 0.33 USD (lets just say 0.33 usd rate)
3000 SPS X 0.33 USD = 990 USD
1 voucher = 990 USD
1 pack is 4 USD
so 990 USD + 4 USD = 1 pack = 1000 USD or more
ROI !!! ow yeah
am i right?
no, you're not right😂
The voucher is given to you if you have SPS staked, you don't have to spend your SPS to get the voucher. The voucher will then have its own value on secondary markets.
i wanna hear your opinion about voucher. how much is 1? beacuse you have to stake atleast 3k sps for 1. yes it given free but it is sellable right?
so maybe selling for?
Yes vouchers are fungible tokens and tradeable on market.
I really have no idea how much could it be worth, sorry!😂
Thank you for yout hard work on this amazing game and we cant wait to see whats coming in CL!
To the moon
Looking forward to the battle for SPS :) really adding value to the tokens
So I thought I'd come in and buy some presale packs. Oops, I only had 1000 SPS staked. So that gave me 0.27 vouchers. sigh.. So I went to hive engine to buy some vouchers. They are currently $16.67 each. So if you don't have a huge stack of SPS, 1 pack will run you about $20.67 during the presale doing it this way. The other option is to buy packs directly from hive engine which are currently running at around $20.
So yeah, you won't be getting any packs for anywhere near $4 unless you already had some seriously deep pockets.
Absolutely unfair for new players! The only ones who have many SPS are players owning many assets or titles and all of them are also old players. They wil get vouchers and will sell them at the price they want: $1, $5 or even $50 dollars. New players have to pay old ones to buy packs. That's insane! I want to pay Splinterlands for a pack, not also another player
Yeppie!!
hype!!!
Amazing!
Very curious as being only a small sps-staker how the price of voucher will end up with..
Surely going for the chaos-presale hoping allowing me to have enough voucher
Just figured out mine with 352 SPS, it came out to 1 voucher every 8.5 days so I can buy 3 presale packs!
How did you find this out? Where could you find it?
crap I want to buy 100 packs but this wont happen with that amount of vouchers
You can calculate it using the numbers they gave above. They use a 100k SPS for an example at 0.1% of 33,333.333 daily drop but the breakdown is -
100k = 0.1
10k = 0.01
1k = 0.001
100 = 0.0001
10 = 0.00001
1 = 0.000001
thus 352 SPS x .00000352% = .11*** vouchers per day time 30 days basically 3.3 vouchers,
you need to add two additional zeros because we are dealing with fractions of a percent
Pretty sure thats right, I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.
You can just buy vouchers from external market rather than staking so much sps. If you want to buy more packs.
Damn! 4$ is a bit steeper than I expected. Any updates to the power requirements for the new league? Make it a bit farer for the new players like me?
You pay 10% less when using SPS
You get 20% more if you get a bunch of packs
Also those packs purchased by those who use the above mentioned discounts will likely be available for re-sale.
1st I will need to be eligible to buy bunch of packs, LOL
very nice ,❤️

Just AWESOME, JUST AWESOME!
Would be IMO enough with split DEC pools to maintain the price from older cards.
About the Voucher, do people need voucher tokens after the presale? Would be IMO really stupid for new players, or did I misunderstand the part vouchers will be available after that time period?
4$ per pack is overall more expensive than classic card games. I'm not in favor of that because combining the game becomes really expensive.
I know Nfts are cool and so on. But the game should IMO not only boom in Bull runs?
I also think land expansion is cool. But the value comes with spreading those cards in many hands. 2$ was IMO a fair price to start with ( 0,4$ per card). with 4$ and 0,8$ per card, I think it becomes expensive.
Special because than the bot army becomes in terms of the deeper math behind an unfair advantage in value generation. Maybe I oversee something here, But the math should go in that direction.
I would be really interested in what the reason is for "more expensive" packs from the game design aspects. It cant be revenue generation because it should doesn't matter with the 5% fee on the secondary market.
Amazing news! Unfortunately a lot of newer players will not get the pack benefits because of the Voucher system. So if anyone wants to get into my pool to buy discounted packs, DM me on Discord (Giemo#5897). The more people join the more we can save on a per-pack basis
New players and people that do not have a lot of SPS will still be able to buy packs 2nd hand AND after pre-sale. There will be 14 million more packs for sale after the pre-sale.
But pools will be very helpful for people but they're a lot of work and require trusting someone.
Also New players can just buy Vouchers from market to buy packs...
👍
Interesting. Now, if we could only get a consistently stable platform to play these cards on and remove a lot of the bot play, that would be excellent for the continued growth of the game with real players that don't get demoralized and quit (primarily in the lower leagues where first impressions from new players are made).
yep sounds like it's still priority #1 for them
