The Merseyside Derby sure lived up to its billing as Everton held the premier league champion to a 2 all draw. Liverpool started like a house on fire when Sadio Mane(3') scored the fastest ever Merseyside derby goal in the premier league era with the time clock just 2 minutes and 15 seconds.
Liverpool's joy was short-lived when centre half Virgil Van Dijk sustained an injury in the 11th minute when he clattered with Everton's goalie Jordan Pickford. It got even worse for Liverpool when Everton levelled moments later through an unmark Michael Keane header. Everton got their share of the injury when their captain Seamus Coleman(31') was replaced just after the half-hour mark.
The 2nd half was even more eventful, 2 further goals after Mo Salah(72') put Liverpool ahead but was pegged back yet again by the man inform Dominic Calvert-Lewin(81'), a red card to Everton's Richarlison(90') and a VAR disallowed goal after Jordan Henderson's goal(90+2') was chopped off for an obscure offside against Sadio Mane. What more could anyone ask for from a derby match.
Liverpool will rue Van Dijk's loss more than the points dropped, with pile-up fixtures coming in thick and fast in the next 3 weeks, the Reds will be eager to know the extent of their reliable centre half's injury. Everton, on the other hand, was hoping for a 1st win over their neighbour since the 2-0 victory 10 years ago(18 Oct 2010), however, they would take the point earned.
