Rainbows: The Light Bringer

Rainbows have played an important part of my life. I mentioned looking for them out behind the barn in a previous post for my pot of gold, but really they have been much more than money for me. They’ve appeared many times when I’m at a crossroads, and they’ve given me the sign I needed to continue on my way. I find them quite a marvel, particularly when they appear for me yet it hasn’t even rained. So when I found a rainbow in Splinterlands’, I wasn’t surprised and took it as another sign to move towards Crypto.

So to show support to Splinterlands for helping me find my Crypto rainbow, I decided to take that rainbow and give back to the Splinterlands community with my own little representation of KiaraLightbringer! You see, I was inspired by her rainbows and her feisty spirit which is so similar to myself that I decided she would be a perfect model for my first art entry to the Splinterlands’ art contest!

Splinterlands' Rainbow: KiaraLightbringer

I built Kiara myself, and if you don’t mind seeing a little bit of the process while hearing a little bit of my story about how I got into 3D art and blender, then please pull up a chair and I’ll make us some tea.

Being a single parent as some of you may know isn’t the easiest path, but I’m trying to find new ways to bring in extra income and show my children the power of an entrepreneurial spirit. I’ve always been a creative person, and I do love games, so in the last year I’ve taught myself how to build 3D models in a program called blender with the hopes it would generate some income for me! I build models in Roblox games, and I LOVE the thrill of bringing something to life in a virtual world.

Since I love building in blender so much, my friend suggested I try building one of the precious Splinterlands cards. Well, I usually build furniture or landscape items, and occasionally pets, but nothing as complex as the incredible detailing that Splinterlands has in their beautiful cards, so I really wasn’t sure if I could do this, but I wanted to try. If you don’t mind I WOULD actually love your honest critique of the work. I need to improve my skills; I WANT to get better so any advice you might have is so appreciated!

The Process

I began with her face. I quickly created some hair but could see it was NOT what I wanted to use for the final product, but it would frame out the head while I worked on the more important areas.

I knew the hardest part would be the hands so I took my time with them and building the torso. Hands are quite difficult to model, but they turned out well enough for my needs here I believe.

Once I felt comfortable with the shoulders, torso and arms, I decided it was time to tackle the tangled tresses of hair.

Then I got to add color.

And finally, what I enjoyed making most of all, were the little details like the little rainbows!

While she came to life before my eyes I thought about her name: KiaraLightbringer, and I was so happy I had chosen her. Not only did she proudly carry the rainbows as a symbol of hope, but she bears light and promise, just as I feel about Splinterlands. I really wanted to capture her sassy, confident stride, and I hope that I have in this final model. I’m really proud of what I’ve made, and I hope you all enjoy it. I just wanted to give a little something back to the community that I’m starting to fall in love with, and I hope she made you smile a little as you’re making all that Crypto! Thanks for stopping by!
