Can you remain objective towards Ukrainians' situation?

If you read Dutch then this banner (see first picture) is a powerful discussion starter.

I had an interview lined up in Amsterdam. I decided to go an hour early and walk to the venue instead of taking the tram. It makes for an excellent trip through the lively city and a brain cleanser.

On the way to my interview, which was one of the weirdest ones I've had, I stumbled upon the Farmer's Protest. I've read a lot about it and honestly it is wise to stay updated with the current affairs of the country. It was very interesting to see it firsthand.

It was a huge gathering with loads of people coming together. A lot of trucks, tractors, speakers blaring energetic music, farmers and supporters wearing same colored bandanas. A powerful atmosphere and a passionate cause.

There were a couple of journalists interviewing farmers, people dancing in the center, and many others having a conversation about the problem.

There's a lot to take in and the perspective of the farmers VS. the lawmakers is a fiesty battle. It is interesting to see what will happen especially with the food shortage scare, especially in the long run.

There was one section among the trucks which said that the farmers were being censored by mainstream media. I was not able to talk to anyone from that section because most of them were busy being recorded or being interviewed. But I am really interested to know how are they being censored. It is possible that news about the farmers is being published but the farmers are not happy with what is beigg withheld and what is being shown to the general public.

One thing is certain, no farmers no food. I was able to speak to a few farmers as this genuinely intrigued me. However, I was not able to get down to the roots. It is of course a very branchy problem. A lot of things are pissing off the farmers. There are the short term cons and then there are the long term cons. I am still not very educated on this issue to have a strong opinion. I have been keeping up with the nitrogen, carbon, covid, and now the new water problems here along with the long lasting housing problem. It is all very important.

Since the start of the farmers protest a lot of other groups have tagged along and made it a bigger procession. People are speaking out and loud about different things they don't agree with. Covid deniers climate change deniers are also among the groups joining the processions in some cities.

Coming back to the first picture. I asked a guy standing front of it and he immediately replied "it's not mine" and walked away. I chuckled a little but I really wanted to know why was this statement made. It has to do with the current housing problem. But then again, according to recent stats a large chunk of Ukrainians in NL are tax paying employees and reducing the pressure of employers by filling in unemployed spots. and a smaller chunk have entered the rental "free market" paying well above average because under the temporary protection act we aren't allowed to avail the "public housing" system.

Greta respect for the dutch farmers! I believed that only the greek media censored what ever is unpleasant for the governors the people to know. Unfortunately the same shit happened also in Holland! Very positive message of your post! Thanks i really need it!

It’s the same here in France...

I wouldn't doubt it.

I am glad you found this post enlightening! Hope it'll get better with the Greek media.

The tram will never replace a walk:) The photos turned out amazing.

Agreed!
Thanks, my phone's main camera is broken but the second camera on the phone doesn't do too bad.

there are several views on the farmers , they produce more then our nation consumes, but also create evironment issues , the Government wants to stop that and the companies making big money from that are the one supplying farmers with cattle food and selling the meat and milk they produce , and those big companies are the ones paying those people to stand there more or less.

For certain farms you need a permit , Some farmers never received one because of this enviroenment problem and will never get them so those farmers fight till bitter end although they knew it would end like this years before.

That is why they disgrace the Dutch flag by hanging it upside down.

the banner on one of the trucks is refering to this article can only find a Dutch version :(

This is a very informative comment. Thank you! I find it very important to learn about the current situations while I'm staying here and have an opinion about it. But it is even more important to have a clear view of the entire situation. I did not know much before your comment and links, as I mentioned in the post, so I appreciate you bringing me up to speed.
