Steem Cartoon : Preparing the Scene for Motion Graphic

This is a storyboard for the process of motion graphic. The sketch is where ideas are formed. This scene is where a character by the name of Badang is showing his brute strength in a contest of lifting timber and my job is to make this scene an epic one.

step 1.jpg

The first thing I need to do is to find an environment that is suitable for the scene. To ensure this I have to form the time and weather for the day. To make this easier, I will always start with the clouds and for the formation of cloud I will use a customed brush.

step 2.jpg

After finding the right mood, we move on to the process of forming the trees and the hill around this area. What you will have to pay attention to is the colour contrast from an object in a distance to ensure that the relative distance is well positioned. Here I will place an area for the audiences to sit and watch the competition to give it a vibe, that it is a challenge that is ongoing.

step 3.jpg

Now for the middleground I will use a small hill so that that the main character is in a pose with an epic shot from an lower angle. This technique will reduce the drawing especially when the crowd is massive.

step 4.jpg

Now we move on to the process that is most important. The character's pose. This is where I try to make the pose look epic but showing the strength of the character. The lighting and shadow has to be position correctly depending on the weather and the position of the sun. It will add to the ambiance.

step 5.jpg

The final process, we focus on the foregound. To ensure that the scene is set right for the audiences, the emotion and their reaction I will capture it here. Once the artwork is completed, I will send it to a motion graphic artist for them to move the camera for this scene. Till we meet again, which is going to be real soon...
