Hello my fellow Steemian! A few days ago, I came across an old drawing of mine from 2011 that I uploaded on Facebook. Back then, I don't have a drawing tablet and resort in using a mouse to draw. When I stumbled upon this drawing courtesy of Facebook suggesting to see back my old posts, I initially cringe inside (by my past self). 7 years ago, I am just a kid just in the process of finishing her high schooling. However, that is also the period where I start to take drawing a bit more seriously so I decide hey, I should probably redraw this old art and see how much I have improved!
The Art
This artwork originally is for a Harry Potter original character I made myself back then. Everyone was super crazy about Harry Potter so my friend and I created our own original characters for the universe. I don't quite recall what I named this character back then, but it is probably one of the version of my longtime original character named Ryuu.
So I decided to redraw the character again after a long staring contest with the drawing. I put on some music and started to draw and here is the result in the end:
I am glad to see that I have improved in my art. Some people feel bad seeing their old art but for me, my old art is like a start of something new. If I didn't draw back then, I might not draw today. If I didn't start to draw back then, I probably would not create more art that I want. Hey, maybe I'll look at this art in the future and improve it more. Who knows? Everything can be improved with time, practice and learning and I'm excited to see how I can push myself more for the future!
Art Process
Sketching
The first thing I do is sketching the character. Using the expression in the old picture, I recall the character is a little grumpy. I sketch them crossing their hands and looking grudgingly because I can't stop playing anime song. (just kidding)
Lining
Then I started to line the character. Overall it is a really fun process.
Coloring
I started coloring with the base color and proceed with the shading of the character. Then I realized I forgot the cat so I decided to draw the cat on top of the coloring layer.
