RE: The Number One Fix to Improve Steem's Chances for Mainstream Adoption

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

I didn't realise @trafalgar has returned. He was probably the first user (after sweetssj who everyone is probably greeted with) whos posts I genuinely enjoyed. I only knew he went away from a while but its great he is back.

What impact do you think a sublinear growth model would have? The thought of superlinear rewards just brings to mind people like kingscrown reasserting their control on steemit and many people to become instenviced to start posting about crypto as it was the most rewarded tag at the time.

Despite the fact times have changed people still feel like they have the need to talk about relevant subjects such as crypto with the obvious goal to earn money and not post in something they may truly be passionate in such as philosophy as I do.

With the present implementation, 100s and 100s of users have less power than 1 person with tons of STEEM POWER. this is often the opposite of the preferred behaviour. the perfect scenario is that 100s of individuals are exptected to be far more reliable in curating content properly than simply 1 person.

Rather than the burden of curating falling on the shoulders of purely @kevinwong should there be an inbuilt system on steem where the community can vote for curators and those who are voted can be awarded SP via delegations from steemit. I don't know how possible this would be but I guess one source this could come from is instead of giving each new person 15 SP in delegation it can turn to a curation system.

50% curation would be amazing but I feel more and more people are in these voting rings automated by bots as well as you have all these bid bots poisoning the economy. However if the curations are (more) equally spread amount the curators it will act less of an incentive for those with massive amounts of SP. IT'S SO HARD TO FIND THE RIGHT BALANCE! Arggghhhhhh haha

Despite the fact you usually have whales creating this curation groups and incubating communities you rarely find a place in where people who share the same interests can discuss. You can argue tags bind and bring people together but I can't wait until the hivemind communities become a reality where I can find a place where I am no longer feel disconnected from people.

This is one among the main obstacles to beat. though it's presently not the worst, there's plenty that could be improved. The user interface for steemit.com specifically could use plenty of upgrades. Extensive, straightforward to access help and ideally extensive video tutorials ought to be out there too at some purpose.

Then the largest problem: the difficulty of cryptocurrencies. This technology is so new that it's not anywhere close to user friendly enough to succeed in mass adoption. Imagine having to show your mom how to exchange STEEM into Bitcoin and then into fiat. The procedure is cumbersome and there's an oversized potential for errors.

Steemit is in its infancy and it has a long way to go but first we do need to find our goldilocks zone in terms of steemit economics. Why are we so greedy :(
