Can we get Steem listed on Coinbase? Our odds may have just gotten better...

Can we get Steem listed on Coinbase?

In a blog post released on Medium by the CEO of Coinbase, Brian Armstrong, something very interesting was said in regards to their crypto asset selections...

Armstrong said that Coinbase has been adding the assets that customers have come to demand.

The exact quote:

"Our goal is to maintain the trusted experience our customers have come to expect while adding the assets our customers have come to demand. This quarter, we added more assets than in our entire prior history as a company, and expanded our services to more people in different countries."

Adding assets that their customs have come to demand?!

Hmm... now that sounds interesting.

There was a time when Coinbase seemed to be extremely cautious in terms of what assets/coins they added to their platform.

While that still largely remains true, they have been more open to adding different kinds of coins/tokens recently.

Given that quote by the CEO, one might assume that their customers are having at least somewhat of an impact on which coins they decide to add.

Does that mean that if the steem community voices their demands loud enough, Coinbase may indeed listen and list steem?!

We won't really know unless we try...

If you have an account on Medium, make sure you respond to that blog post with requests to add steem.

Also, we could contact them on twitter, facebook, as well as their support channels with requests for steem.

Heck, they even have a phone number listed... ;)

You never know, it might be what is needed to get steem listed.

Steem currently has no direct fiat on/off ramps here in the US. Getting steem listed on Coinbase would represent the first fiat on/off ramp in the US and could end up being a very big deal during the next bull phase.

Can we band together and make it happen?

Stay informed my friends.

I’d love to see Steem listed on Coinbase however I fear with the lack of wallets available to hold Steem in (other than a Steemit account) it may be a bit soon.
Hope springs.........

Not sure what you mean here... many other exchanges have steem wallets and a steemit account is always available if needed/wanted.

Both true, however it’s not wise to trust the custody of your coins to an exchange, and while I’m a fan of the Steemit platform I doubt that investors who steer clear of social media like me before Steemit will bother opening an account just to hold coins
I believe serious adoption of the token will be dependant on people being able to hold them on a smart phone app wallet.
I may be wrong, it’s been known 😂

Couple things:

If Steem were to get listed on Coinbase the benefit would be that people would have a direct fiat on/off ramp in the US. Currently there are none.

People would not be holding their steem on Coinbase, just using to get steem in and out of steemit or any other app on steem.

In regards to holding steem on steemit, if steemit were to go down you could always access your coins through a different front end as long as you have your private keys, so I don't necessarily share your concerns about needing a smartphone app wallet.

Though, overall, it would be a net positive to have one.

I don’t disagree with your thoughts dude.
IMHO we are a while away from a mass adoption of crypto currencies, when that happens the non institutional less tech savvy investors are going to need simplicity. I bought Steem through a Freewallet app about 6 months before I joined the platform, since then Freewallet have dropped Steem which I saw as a lack of confidence in the token.
The easier a coin is to buy and hold in your own possession for a crypto novice the more likely they are to invest.
FYI I’m not advocating for Freewallet, I think they’re dodgy.

Oh yea more wallets would always be nice. Though, most likely them dropping it had to do with the cost of hosting a steem wallet. That still needs to come way down and is part of the reason exchanges haven't been jumping up and down to add steem. That or most steem users being on steemit could also have been part of it :)

What about Vessel desktop wallet and esteem mobile wallet?

I really hope so, it will crank up the price, but the important thing is millions of people will look at and see Steem😊

Yep, it would make buying steem actually doable for non-crypto folks.

We will do what we can to push them towards it. Try not to spam them but keep up a constant pressure on all of there relevant posts so that they have steem on the brain.

Honestly, spamming might be better than nothing at all. Though a slightly more targeted approach would likely be better.

The thing I think we need as much as anything is easy on and off ramps. I wish every app, every contact point would have a super easy on ramp.

I would love that. Buying Steem now is still fairly easy, but that would be the easiest. I could just buy it every time I have a few extra dollars, and I'd end up with a fair amount of Steem with the prices the way they are right now.

It's not for people who have never used or been involved in crypto. I brought a few people to steem and steemit over the past few years and it has been a headache teaching them how to get any money at all onto the steemit platform.

I guess that's what I meant. It's easy for me to do it if I want to. If it was an easy as buying ETH on Coinbase, though, that'd be awesome.

Yes that would be ideal. Or even buying it directly on the steemit.com site with a card, though we are a long ways and a few licenses away from that :)

I’ve been messaging them daily to add steem.

Awesome. Where have you been messaging them?

https://coinbase.ada.support/chat/ it’s an automated system, but I’m sure it logs the data for analysis.

I just commented on the post, go on there and upvote it, also write your comments!

Yes, this is what we need! It would make buying and, therefore, adopting Steem much easier for everyone.

Yep, exactly. It is a major missing piece during the last bullish phase in order for people to get money in and out of steem. There are a whole host of problems here, but people that wanted to get money into steem/steem power last year were having a heck of a time doing so.

I think that apart from Huobi which has some significant volume there is no other exchange with that pair. Steem/USD

We all know what this community can achieve...and it can be huge

Upit and Bithumb have KRW pairs, which I am assuming are fiat pairs. Though Bithumb's steem wallets have been down for a long time now.

Edited: KRW = Korean WON

So there are a couple more, right!

I have already sent a letter to them through snail mail in an effort to get Steem noticed! It would be awesome to see it come to fruition. I think they need tk continue to show growth which is why they are expanding their offering more agressively.

Not a bad idea. I think if we got many people doing things like this it would move steem up on their list.

This will take steemit to whole new levels, the amount of traffic this will bring will be like never before, I wouldn’t go as far as saying trading will be like bitcoin however the opportunities once this takes place will be endless.

A one stop shop would be nice and they let you use pal pay which keeps your info private.

"How do I buy steem?" You go through coinbase just like you did when you bought bitcoin.

I've never bought bitcoin before. From what I understand you can't buy steem on coinbase....did I miss understand that?

Nope you are correct. However, you can buy steem on other exchanges using bitcoin. Bittrex, Poloniex, Binance, and Upbit are all some of the more popular exchanges to buy steem on.

Would be great to be listed on coinbase

How do we make it happen?

Start asking why other things have been or are being added to coinbase. Is it because of insider connections? Should we invite coinbase management to join steem?

Is steem's community actually smaller than other cryptos? I don't think so. What do we need to do here to make steem more attractive?

Well that was kind of the point of my post really, it looks like for the first time ever Coinbase is at least partly listening to what their customers ask for. If enough steemians request steem I would think it would at least move up the list.

Yes, my question was... in addition to customer demand, are there any specific attributes that they are looking for in added cryptos? Your point is a strong one, and a clear necessary path, but what else can we do? In addition.

I have put in a support ticket asking about it. At least that makes my desire known. I am a customer of coinbase, and have been a frequent user for the past 4-5 years, so hopefully they value my opinion at least a little...(probably not).

Nice, thank you for doing that. I have done the same and also been a frequent user/customer of theirs.

In the past they seemed to want to make sure the coin/token was not a security before they added it. Steem didn't have an ICO was a plus in terms of being labeled a security, however, some other aspects may make it one.

So possibly getting some clarity in that regard would go a long ways?

Oh, cool. I hope this happen. This is like the first exchange I started with and have their app.

Something like 20 million accounts on coinbase last I checked. Lot of people there...

This post has been included in today's SOS Daily News - a digest of all you need to know about the State of Steem.

Has anyone got Coinbase headquarters address?!?
I can send him letter like I did with Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg

Oh great... I'm going to send him something ;-)

great initiative... What I would also like to see on coinbase - is expansion of their supported countries... :) It sucks being in 3rd world countries...
for example Serbia have only access to bittrex and blocktrades....

A greeting from Spain with my best wishes for the platform.

A pleasure to meet you and read your publications. Receive an affectionate greeting
