Have you ever noticed the transformation that takes place when someone becomes a champion? one day they're struggling to get to the top of the game. they clutch in the clinch. they almost make it. they're inconsistent brilliant at moments and disappointing at others.
and then one day, after dogged determination and much effort, they do it. they get a perfect 10. they win the title. they break a record. they take the gold medal. and somehow, almost miraculously at that point they become a champion they step onto the field with a different gait. They project a new aura of confidence. They begin thinking and walking like a champion. something has shifted and everybody knows it.
From the moment we were born, we're busy learning how to do what we're told. we're fed on schedules -told when and what to eat before long the teacher takes over where our parents left off and by the time we got out of school, we're masters at taking orders and following rules-or at breaking them. we've learned how to get in line, be quiet, speak only when called upon, and raise your hand if we need to go to the bathroom. in the process, we've been prepared to become good workers. or we've rebelled against this regimentation and learned to become terrible workers.
once we graduate from school our employers quickly step into the role once played by our parents and our teachers. we're still expected to show up on schedule, eat on schedule, and work on schedule. we still basically expected to stay in line and do what is asked of us,
these lessons over our lifetime have prepared us perfectly for what we call the payroll mentality: come to work on time, work hard, do a good job, do what the boss or the job description says and in return u'll receive your paycheck on a regular basis. Today, of course lots of people who have been following these rules are not betting their paycheck. instead they're getting downsized, rightsized, merged and purged. and its no wonder why many of us feel angry, disillusioned, and determined to take charge of our lives by going out on their own
nice post.
