I am favouring Steempeak. You can switch between three different feed modes and one of those has small pics. There's a button at the top to switch.
The Steem Keychain simplifies the key issue on desktop at least. The decentralised nature means we have to take more responsibility for our own security and the financial aspect makes this extra important.
I hope we will see more ways to use Steem soon that will encourage more users. Maybe there will be fresh news at Steemfest.
