SPUD#2 and thoughts about upcoming changes

in #steem5 years ago (edited)

@svemirac ®

And so it started one month ago! @streetstyle started the Steem Power Up Day movement where he calls out the steemians to either power up, or stop their power down for one day.

And... SPUD #1 results? It was the first time after few months that actually more STEEM was powered UP than DOWN, so let's see how #2 will go? Also there are lots of rewards for smaller accounts that decide to join the movement. There are some conditions that they need to meet.

Here is my part!

I powered up 1290 STEEM from my main account, this one - and want to note that the @crowdwitness is constantly powering up (never started the power down) - even tho we have very nice monthly expenses. So in total, I currently hold around 6500+1400 ~ 8k SP. Not a bad score for 1.5 years here as a trash author and curator.

However nice this movement is I still don't think most of the things will change, it is nice and good - but we all know that world (especially steem) is a much darker place.

Since I'm here and writing this, as a witness, I feel a responsibility towards the community and everyone that supports our work, so I'll write a few words about future changes. Of course, as someone already stated - I'm no one, and basically, have no influence on this platform, if I did you wouldn't be

I won't go into too much details - there are so many posts about it
Let me start with...

EIP

It sounds awesome in theory.

  1. More curation rewards = more curators.
  2. More curators = more people rewarded.
  3. More people rewarded = happier they are to produce content.
  4. Free downvotes to fight everything - the scam, and big pool reward abusers that no one want/can't/don't see a point to control today.
... but then again, even today's system at one point sounded much better than 50/50 system we had previously.

So lets check out some insecurities about that?!

  1. bid bots will get more curation as well!
  2. That does not stop the self votes
  3. Even more incentive for forming circle jerking (or shall we say upvoting good-old-friends no matter the content)
  4. As we saw in one of the posts from Abh, downvotes didn't increase its usage (why would they? everyone knew about the flags before) - so... Are we in another calm before the storm of The War of the Whales II?
  5. And for people saying - if small accounts gather together we can get down big ones... yes, but also the big one can start retaliating on everyone who opposes him - and who will protect the peasants? the high council for sure won't.

Currently, we have an awesome group of curator groups:
Curie with many community curation groups, OCD, photocircle, steemSTEM, c-squared, as well as many others dsound/art and then the awesome individual curators like Acidyo, Mariusfebruary, theycallmedan, nathanmars, kommzenzsezizus(you know who I am talking about) and many others - even tho it is not the best way to earn at the moment they dedicate their time to support everyone. And I believe that they will put that 25% of free downvotes option for a good cause.
I am sure they understand that true value of SOCIAL MEDIA on the blockchain is SOCIAL aspect of community and not the blockchain itself (which is THE most awesome thing that we have) - but that is our edge over just another blockchain.

Vote selling will be even more rewarding, but also joining into curation trail might be a bit more tempting. However, if someone wants to most efficiently makes some profit he won't vote for someone who already has a significant vote, he will probably skip it searching for that perfect post - and what happens when there is no such thing.
We already know that big stakeholders vote for big stakeholders and there are almost no votes on the smaller profiles no matter the value of their content.

Conclusion: Presented and wrapped up a sweet spherical cow in vacuum, this is the best thing that could ever happen for authors, and the current system requires some changes for a direct fight with bid-bots and selfish votes - will this happen in practical use - I doubt it, but we can try it, there is some logic behind it that actually can help the system - not by much but ever little thing counts at this moment.

Next thing...

SPS or SMT or what else do we need but it must start with S.

Yes, both ideas are awesome and we need them (S)ASAP.

Lots of people are working on implementing SPS, the only thing that is left is for people to come up with a plan of funding it. Steemit in no way SHOULD NOT fund it, they offered initial funds and that is awesome from the team, and the rest will be funded from inflation. Now there are discussions from where we should take this inflation?
Authors, Stake or Witnesses? => Currently the majority of witnesses are in favor of taking all from authors.

Again, I am repeating, I am nowhere near to influence this decision, nor the community thinks that my node/opinion matters much to the chain... This is outrageous, If you combine EIP+(-10 cut for reward pool) the author rewards are reduced for 42%. 42% - that must be the answer to life, Universe, and shit going on, Don't Panic!

Next, no one wants to address the inequality of block producers rewards between top21 and the rest.

Small stakeholders (decent content creators that were told - come there is no censorship, post and earn real money and not upvotes) are also blamed because they wait to sell their steem and letting the price moon. Well, let's just say few things:

  1. If more people are buying than selling the price will go up.
  2. If one person posts 5 posts per week ~ 20 posts per month - and lets say that they earn liquid steem on a monthly period they will sell 20 steem. while the large stakeholders can dump few orders of magnitude more.
Again... authors are problems, witnesses that do nothing, still running various old versions of chain are kept on high positions , why?(let's pretend we don't know), Inactive too(tho they are not the problem).

Again Social platform is for SOCIALIZING, sharing all kind of content, making fun, commenting, engaging, discussing.

Anyways, I think I have spent too much time on this shit post. All I wanted to say - Don't kill of the authors - steem needs them, and if you can power up. Not sure it will help but it's not a big difference between 0.38 and 0.08.

Ha...Nice way to start your opinion/analysis/semi-rant post @svemirac - with a joke about 'chickens'... :>) Physicists LOVE chicken jokes according to the most recent polls that I've seen. Especially ones about "Chickens in a vacuum."

Did 'he' say, "Spherical chickens"...??? I'm not quite sure that I heard it right, but somehow feel as if it doesn't matter, because I laughed anyway. Maybe it's because I'm getting old and a bit senile?

Yes he did, apparently, the first joke was with a spherical cow in a vacuum, and there is also a tribute Linux distribution (Fedora 18 with a code name - Spherical Cow).

Basically, all the theories and very complicated stuff, especially in undergradute classes are simplified to be spherical (INPUT YOUR WORD)_ in vacuum, and has nothing to do with reality. :) later we complicate them a bit.

But as said above :) we have a spherical HF21 in a vacuum. :D

Naaah, you are good! :) 69 are the best years, at least I hard so. )

Ha...Yeah, nothing to do with reality...

Naaah, you are good! :) 69 are the best years

I'm a lot better off than most I know of. Fortunately, I worked out for most of my life, prepared most of my own food and gave up the party life in my early thirties :>)

Nice powerup, I've also been active today :-)

I share your views on EIP, SPS and rest, and I think there's a lot more people who do. Keep going!

Wow, nice Power Up, you were just over the 5k threshold for the #spud Contest. Thank you for supporting this #spud2 movement It is greatly appreciated @svemirac

Where is this

If you mean the first picture - it's an accumulative lake in Serbia I visited sometimes in November/December last year (need to post a bit about it). However... the thing is ruined at the moment, since the government thinks it's better without water and wildlife just for a short-term electricity profit.
Not the same spot, but the same lake...

Could donate a picture to Berni3 :D

Excellent thoughts and participation in the event.

We are Spudding all over the planet!
