Psalm 20: 1-2 King James Version (NIV)

1 Jehovah will hear you on the day of the conflict;
The name of the God of Jacob defends you. 2 Send him help from the sanctuary, and from Zion he will embrace you.

God is our strength and refuge on the day of distress. There are moments in life when we get a bad day, a day of conflict, whether spiritual or material. We can face a financial conflict, in which economic life falters and fills you with insecurity. A financial desert overwhelms you and this makes you anxious. I tell you this, because I really live it daily in my country. We face very severe economic conflicts, of shortages of food, footwear, clothing and medicines.

When you live in an uncertain economy in insecurity, your personal, family and social situation becomes very irritating. However, in the midst of all these adverse and conflicting circumstances, you take refuge in the word of God that brings comfort to your life. In this Psalm 20: 1, the psalmist David wrote: "Jehovah hears you on the day of conflict." This psalm invites us to present to God all our needs and, above all, those things that rob him of peace and spiritual security.

The Lord will always be ready to hear our cry, we just have to cry out to God in the bad day and "Jehovah will hear when I will cry to Him."

We have to present conflicting and delicate situations before the throne of grace and we must trust that God hears our cry. David adds in this verse 1: "The name of the God of Jacob defends you."

We Christians know that when we reach the heavenly throne and ask our Father in the name of Jesus, we must be sure that He listens to us and grants us the request of our heart.

Jesus told his disciples "And whatever you ask the Father in my name, you will receive."

If we want to be victorious on the day of the conflict, it is necessary to reach the Father in the name of Jesus, and the Lord will deliver us.

David refers in verse 2 of Psalm 20: "Send help from the sanctuary." Our trust in God leads us to know that the heavenly Father will send his angels as messengers to help us in conflict situations we may face. We must fully trust in the salvation of our God in the bad day. God has a set of spiritual resources that he makes available to the believer when we invoke him in situations of crisis or difficulties. The best and greatest resource is the Holy Spirit, which is poured into the heart of every believer.

David concludes by saying: "And from Zion I embrace you."

Zion is the eternal dwelling place of God, and from that place God sustains the life of his children and guarantees total salvation. It is important to recognize that "those who trust in Jehovah are like the mount of Zion that does not move but remains forever."
