More than 700 years ago, humans discovered how to improve vision with the help of glass. The glasses, as we know them today, were created around the year 1850. Since then many things have happened. The latest milestone is a technology that allows each eye to be examined accurately.

Why is this discovery so important? Because there are no two eyes the same. Each eye is unique as a fingerprint. i.Profiler® from Carl Zeiss Vision makes it possible to measure the eyes with extreme precision. The solution is based on what we call wavefront technology. Unlike standard methods of vision screening used by optical optometrists, who usually examine visual acuity in daylight conditions and very high contrasts, this system takes into account changes in light, reflections, colors and contrasts. This implies that the performance of the eye is also evaluated under different conditions of brightness and contrast. That is, the specific aspects of each person can be analyzed with maximum precision. Among them are:

  • Visual acuity

  • Space vision

  • Ocular interaction

i.Profiler® analyzes each eye independently and performs the examination even if the pupils are dilated, as if it were at night. In addition, it is the first system that can perceive the so-called higher problems or technically said, high-order aberrations. Although this term may sound alarming, it refers to the problems of dilatation of the pupils. Problems of pupillary dilation cause that the beam of light refract more intensely in the external margins of the lens that in its central part, giving rise to a reduction of the perception of the contrasts. Another major problem is asymmetry, which occurs when light rays are refracted so that objects appear to be surrounded by a circle of blurring. Both phenomena are responsible for poor vision during sunset or at night.
