Will Cyrpto's lead to more kidnappings?

in #steemit7 years ago

My wife has traveled the world, and one thing she has learned is some countries, is to keep a low profile. It doesn't take long now days to find out info about a certain person, especially if they have some sort of social media.

Lets take steemit for example, I can go on and see what anyone on the site has in value in steem power. So a account like freedom that has millions of steem is technically worth millions of dollars, untraceable dollars to an extent. So what if someone made the connection of who this person is. Having your worth exposed could make you a target.

People do weird things for money.

Sort:

Low profile is always best. Don’t flash your status or your cash. Keep your wits about yourself with your head on a swivel. Always scan your surroundings and know your exits. Don’t get overly intoxicated unless you plan on getting mugged...

Yeah it is a drawback in the crypto world at times, but it could relate to any form of wealth...You could argue it's because crypto has more understanding now becoming a globally recognized asset.

Honestly, this is a very interesting point and I would say the best option would be to ask the Steemit.com managers to hide the wallet option from your account. I guess they don't have any such option as yet.

Great post tnx for sharing steemit all the way i just upvoted check out my new post upvote resteem comment @glclipse

Excelente post, de verdad que es la realidad, Debemos estar prevenido .con todo esto, hay mucha gente que disfruta haciendole mal a los demas.Saludos

Wow! Never thought about that... Scary shit! Hope this scenario never becomes real...

There was a guy named Craiggrant, that always bragged about how much bitcoin he had. All that does is make you a target.

hopefully his journey to the destination of my good friend @bigram13

Most people on steemit did an introduction post which can be used to identify the person behind a steemit account, and we cannot delete it once it's been posted. That could be a risk when the account becomes worth more in the future

Yep, that is my point exactly, now you have all you need to get to people.

It's an interesting point. I suppose the same could be said of celebrity YouTubers too though? They broadcast their location via live vlogs in some cases, and everyone knows if you have millions of subscribers you are going to be making a lot of money.

Very true, one difference though is that you can be loaded on steem, and not have a ton of followers, where on youtube you have to have followers, so they might notice you are missing.

That is such a very interesting point. We a love Steemit for its transparency but at the same time it’s that transparency that could potentially put us at risk. As we build relationships here and share more and more about ourselves we need to be super cognizant of the fact that our conversations are public. Definitely an eye opening post sir!!! Food for thought indeed!

good story in this post today, please vote me kamentar ya.

Ohh sh*t, this freaks me out mate. Though I have just a small amount of money in my account, still scares me coz indeed "people do weird things for money."

Ya, I am waiting for someone I know to be like, Hey i see you got a bunch of money, can you help me out.

enjoying & Mind Blowing stuff!

fascinating & terrific!

Beautiful, i love

All this means is to not share too much personal information . That's still common internet practice be it on steemit or any other site. Even tho the wallet is available they'd still have to be a super spy to find you if you don't update where you're at.

You think people do weird stuff for money? You don't even want to know what i have done for a Klondike Bar.

Those would be hard to take as a ransom. You would have to eat them really fast. Or have them deliver them in a refrigerated truck.

Uh...I hadn't thought of this but yeah that's entirely possible. Especially when you're talking about instant transfers of cryptocurrency. It's way easier and less traceable to get random crypto. That's a scary thought.

That's why I didn't do an introduce yourself post and put a user name instead of my real one. People will do crazy things for money and there is a lot of crazy's out there that would do this. Good post up voted and re steemed x

Man, I hate FUD about crypto's but this is one story that unfortunately does concern me. Not as much now but moving into the future. Its going to be very important to try to remain anonymous while traveling at minimum.

Well... now I feel less safe online. And I am a minnow in the Steem sea.

People do weird things for money...

Sometimes money....

It would be nice to keep more things private. Not sure if that defeats the purpose of a transparent blockchain.

I have been telling people this🤦🏾‍♂️
But look at it this way, everything in this world has a good and bad side😕😃
You will have to move smart‼️

Its a very good point, but we can´t live in fear, otherwise we will not be actually living. But it´s definitely a real concern, especially for the whales.

Right now there is not many people in contact with crypto in general, so probably a lot of "bad guys" don´t know that we exist, but when this world starts to get bigger and bigger, there will be probably the need to exist some protections.

the post is pretty cool @bigram13

That's a good point. I'm a fictional bounty hunter, so unless you can travel back in time to find me, I'm probably safe. But I don't really like the idea of having my wallet exposed so anyone can see it. It's one thing for someone to figure out my address and then see how much I have. It's another to have it right in anyone's face. I wouldn't want to use my real name even if I had one!

Ya, it totally goes against the financial norm

Don't drive a lambo......

Great post .. Definitely RESTEEM worth. Regards Fritz
