5 Things I have Learned and Practice

Steemit is the best blogging platform out there!
This is by far the most supportive community for sure. I feel like I can be myself here more than anywhere else, and that’s probably because none of you know me and I don’t know any of you! Haha. Aside from feeling a bit anonymous and a sense of freedom to have no insecurities, the comments and upvotes, and resteems I receive just give me all the feels. Steemit is so friendly, so supportive, so full of positivity unlike other platforms. There is no where else on the internet where being nice is rewarded and being a dick is flagged. I love it.

I work off of a good Karma strategy
I get on as much as possible (again, I don’t invest all day due to work, getting ready for a baby, etc), but I do try and dedicate an hour of my time a day, outside of creating blog posts (which could be another hour or two), just to read, comment and Upvote other’s posts. It is probably more on the weekend. But during that time I am trying to show as much support and give a little to each person as much as I can, just repaying what I have felt people have done to me. I don’t make a ton of money on Steemit. That’s not why I do it. I have had a few posts make me what I think is a pretty fantastic amount (nothing at whale levels) but 99% of the time I am lucky to get a $1 or $2. So instead, my mentality is to pay it forward, spread the Steemit love with little power I have here as a minnow, and I know in time I will build up my SP, my rep scores, and do enough good that Karma will come back around. This continues BTW, I don’t see how I will ever make whale status, but if I did, I would really try and be like those whales who support everyone else! Getting a comment from @sweetsssj or @jerrybanfield can make my day. Or an upvote from @hendrikdegrote & @curie changes my entire post amount. I want to do that for people someday too. Until then, I hope my little upvotes and postitive comments bring some happiness to my fellow Steemians.

I Blog for Me AND You
I don't think you should do anything in life you don’t love, or at least enjoy. I definitely blog things that interest me, that I like, that I have fun writing about, but I also hope that I am blogging something that others will find useful, funny, interesting, entertaining, silly or will brighten their day. If you follow me, you know I have created no niche, I fall in no genre of blogger. I am a totally random and create posts based on anything that comes to mind that falls into one of those categories above. Hopefully, if you follow me you enjoy my randomness lol

It’s OK to be Loyal to Other Steemians
I have heard the term thrown around "circle jerking" on Steemit. Not sure I really get it. However, If you have made great connections here and always upvote people who you really enjoy their content, why is that bad? One of my first connections was with @walkingkeys (shout out what up!) and I try to give him my 100% upvote when I see his content on my feed! Why? He busts his ass and creates great content, he is also a big Steemit advocate like me, and is really positive on my blog posts. I don’t do it for an Upvote back, I just am loyal to someone who was nice to me from the start. I also do it for whales, dolphins and Witnesses I believe in or enjoy. I don’t think this is a bad thing. It becomes bad when those are the only ones you upvote, but that doesn’t help you in the long run either so it behooves you to be loyal to those you love and to help out those who are new!

I upvote my own content
Before I get in to this, I know this one will be the most controversial! I have read all the pros and cons, read both sides from the haters and the people who do it. Here is how I feel, I think that if you are an active user and you aren’t reserving your upvotes for only your own posts, and you are spreading the love, then it is ok! I barely make any money on here, so I upvote my own content, as well as others. I also am just starting out and trying to build my power and the more I can do that, the more I can spread the love. Bill Gates didn’t start out donating $30B to charity. He built up his own wealth so he could give back. It is totally my opinion, and you can disagree, but I think as long as you split it (at the very least) evenly, then it is perfectly ok while you are a minnow. I also try to upvote people who are just starting out, day posting in the introduce yourself categories! I want Steemit to do well, I want more and more users to stay, the more I can make others feel successful the better for us all. That includes increasing my own power so I can help with bigger upvotes for others too. Hopefully you guys don’t hate on me or this strategy. I learned this from a whale, BTW, who said it makes sense while we are minnows, but once we reach dolphin or whale status we should adjust our strategy, so that is what I will do.

Hope you enjoyed! Thank you to every single person who follows me, supports my posts and leaves super nice comments!! I hope to pay it forward!!!

This is a fantastic point. The beauty of blockchain and Steemit is that we can all help one another and enrich one another. It's a win-win.

Where there is a will there is a way, good luck

Thank you!

It's a completely public and open space to all members of the Steemit community who voluntarily choose to be there.

Great advice, especially for a newbie like myself. I was on the fence about upvoting my own posts and you Bill Gates comment makes a great deal of sense. Thanks for the advice and I will be looking forward to your future posts!

Some very good points here breshepard, and I wholeheartedly agree. I think you will have a very long and hopefully successful time on Steemit with this wonderful attitude. Keep it up! :)
