I've seen people post about cashing out some Steemit earnings and having enough to cover their rent. I've been successful enough with Steemit in the past 2 weeks that I was able to do the same... but without even having to convert any coin!
My landlord was the one who told me about Steemit, and said he would accept rent payments in cryptocurrency. Paying my rent yesterday couldn't have been easier: I just transferred the correct amount of Steem Dollars to his account.
I first got on Steemit just to see how it would go, knowing that I could forget about it any time. I don't feel that way anymore! Using the platform has been second nature, since I would always use social media or blogging sites like Facebook, Tumblr, or Instagram before. The ability to pay my rent through this platform is an added bonus.
"Why yes, my world has turned upside down, let me tell you about some new-fangled technology..."
I wasn't into cryptocurrency at all before. The closest I got to transactions like the one yesterday was using apps connected to bank accounts to transfer USD. I thought I would just be converting my Steemit earnings to cash. Now, I see how cryptocurrency can be more efficient than anything I've used before if enough people are using it.
I know I still have a ways to go before I'm truly comfortable dealing in this new world, but I'm learning more every day, thanks to all of you. Steem on!
xo,
Cecilia
How cool is that. Really nice to see Steem able to pay your bills. Not quite there yet myself but hearing these type of encouraging stories helps to stay on the grind! Have fun out there and good luck with your future posts!
I'm glad I could provide that encouragement! Keep posting, keep voting, and little by little, profits come in. Keep up with that grind and you'll get there too!
I am hoping that the steem will change my financial situation for the better. I need to come up with another $1k for rent by the end of the month or my family is evicted and nowhere to go. Very stressful and I have been tempted to steem about it. I appreciate your post and I am now following you.
My rent is less than that (I'm only renting a room) but I was surprised at how far the Steem Dollars could go. If you do write about your situation on here, I'm sure that people would sympathize with you and do what they can to help you out. It's a very supportive community.
Nice! Sounds like your landlord is one smart dude.
You can say that again!
Congrats Cecilia and tell Kenny to bring those Youtube stars over to Steemit as some people make a good crypto over here vlogging as well ;-)
Haha, sure, hear that @kenny-crane ? I'm trying to get more of my friends who use a lot of social media on here too
Thanks for the rent! Pretty cool that you can pay it with Steemit earnings, isn't it? :-)
I haven't seen that pic before. Ron is a good photographer with some cool props. Thanks for sharing it!
Wow You rent to her? LOL. I Had no idea you are a landlord! Hahha. That looks like some pretty cheap rent! Dang! What a great deal.
If you 're ever interested in living in Charlotte, or visiting for a while, hmu! We're just a few hours from the beach or the mountains and the city is great with lots to do. Plus there's 200 acres of hiking trails right across the street. :-)
It's a nice area!
Holy cow thats super tempting! I love the beach! I'm going to have to visit at some point hehe :)
Count me in as well at some point in the future ;-)
Nice! My son grew up with his Mom in Monroe and is now out at UNC Wilmington, so I get down there from time to time. I'll let you know when I'm out that way again.
Thats awesome @ceciliakeirstand :) You have a cool landlord. That's how I got introduced to crypto, my landlord accepted bitcoin for rent. I have a goal to earn enough $ on steemit to pay rent as well. Congrats and enjoy!
Thanks, you too! You'll be glad you started once you reach that goal :)
Do you have any advice on how you accomplished the goal? Maybe write a post about it :) ?
I can probably write a post on it soon. Basically, I try to post pretty often and use my best pictures and all 5 tags. Then, I respond to as many people as I can, for articles I like and for people who take the time to reply to my posts. I figure that way, more people see what I write. I'll probably write a more detailed post and include links to other advice posts by tomorrow!
Very good advice :) I do those as well. I would also say sharing apart of yourself, being vulnerable, and having a story.
That's true. In my high school English class, the teacher always talked about theme. She focused on theme as being a universal truth or message about life conveyed through the writing, and I think it helps posts gain more traction if they have a theme or plotline.
Wow this is amazing! I hope I can get a landlord that will accept Cryptocurrency.
That's what a lot of people are saying! It's certainly convenient.
It is! I wish it was like that everywhere haha.
Same!
That's great! I'm hoping to be able to do the same some day. I'll have to see if my landlord accepts steem but I have my doubts haha
Haha yeah, I haven't heard of landlords accepting steem until it happened to me, but maybe we can make it mainstream! Or should I say mainstreem?
Very interesting! What's up next? Paying plane tickets with steem dollars? :)
Ooh, that would be nice! I can think of a few places I would like to go...
Wow that is great to hear
I'm hoping everyone can find the same sort of success :)
That is awesome. Looks like this post might help pay next weeks rent too. #vivalasteemit
True! I've been using Steemit to pay my rent all summer by now.
This is my goal, im happy for you!, ive been on since may and havent come close to what you have, it takes time i suppose tho, good job @ceciliakeirstead
Thank you! I hope you'll make it soon! I've found that posting pretty often and replying to comments or posts gets people to see the stuff I write. More people seeing it means that more people can upvote! I also downloaded eSteem on my phone so that I can comment and look at stories when I have free moments here and there.
esteem cool! thanks for the recommendation,
No problem! It's great for when I would otherwise play a game or scroll through other social media apps on my phone.
right on ill defintely check it out. im going to do a series of posts about student debt, higher education and class control. hopefully you'll check em out :)
Sounds good to me! Maybe someday I'll be at the level where I can pay off my student loans from steemit earnings
cool well ill add you too my https://steemvoter.com/
so ill always upvote your content, and followed , Cheers
So awesome! I wish my clients would pay me in crypto. I'd gladly accept. Great story! Followed
They probably would! Just tell them about crypto, or mention that steemit is a platform where you can make money by posting and curating, and they'll probably be interested. It didn't take much for me to give steemit a try, and now I'm glad I did!
Cool that is.....
It is!
That is really cool. I don't totally understand it all yet myself, but stories like this and other people I know who do understand it and are using it. Makes me really excited to see where this can take me. Plus connection with others interested in photography I hope makes me better
Absolutely! Go for it. The more you explore the platform, the more you'll learn!
Re-steemed og upvoted!
Thank you so much!
😊
This is great. I hope that steem will stay as lucrative for users as it currently is. I have some doubts that it can possibly stay like this forever, but anyway it's good that you're making use of it while it is paying a lot.
I think that even if Steemit goes downhill, there are other coins and apps based on it. There's potential for more platforms like it to come up in its place.
We really are living in the future haha, wauw!! What a geat feeling it must be the freedom it brings.
I'm new here and i'm really amazed by this platform.
Thanks for sharing your story its inspiring me to commit to steemit
You're welcome! Committing is the right idea - it seems to get better every day.
so cool for you! :))
Thanks!
thats great steemit improving peoples life
I've seen lots of inspirational stories about success on the platform, and I'm happy to see steemit and the community helping people
That is awesome @ceciliakeirstead!
Love your story about paying rent with steem dollars!
I'm glad you like it! It's exciting to be able to share.
Sounds like a cool landlord....have to tell mine next :) thanks for the tip!
Totally! With cryptocurrency becoming more popular, maybe we're not far from being able to pay all our bills that way...
really cool :) you must be very glad that you got on steemit...
I sure am!
wow thats great, steemit is the future now
True!
Wow that's an awesome story, thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
Congratz! That's amazing! Keep it up and let's hope it'll get incorporated even more in the system soon! :)
Let's hope so!
wow, you seems to be pretty hardworking girly. I am quite impress the way you are sorting out financial constraints. .......i wonder can we convert crypto currency into dollars as well??????????...i hope some one can answer me
I know that it's possible, though I haven't tried yet. People use Bittrex to exchange Steem or SBD for bitcoin, then sell it to the bank for dollars. There are probably more specific articles on here about the exact process.
That's awesome. I've paid some bills by converting Steem or Steem Dollars to cash, but never paid anyone directly with it. That's so cool that your landlord let you pay your rent that way. How convenient! We certainly are the pioneers in the land of cryptocurrency, and it's really thrilling to be involved, isn't it?
It's exciting! Most people I know have heard of bitcoin but don't know about other cryptocurrencies and aren't involved with using them, so now I'm trying to get my friends involved, too.
That is awesome. I am happy for your success. I am not to that level yet but I hope to be there soon.
Don't give up! You'll reach your goal.
That is so awesome, and shows how cryptocurrencies can and will be the way to transact for goods and services. No more middle man. I'm sure your landlord is very smart, he KNOWS steem will gain in value in the future, and I'm quite positive he will be stashing his collected rent STEEM under his mattress.
Exactly. There's also no delay or interest like when you deal with banks. We can take our finances into our own hands, figuratively speaking.
Not just figuratively, but truely. We control the money. Power to the people.
Haha by figuratively, I meant that we can't physically hold the cryptocurrency (i.e. take it into our hands), but you're right, power to the people is real!
Who knows, maybe in the future we'll have cryptocurrencies printed on paper while being backed by the true network value (and not some central bank printing money as they like). Sounds crazy, but who knows. As a matter of fact why not? Could be an idea for the developers to play with. I'm sure THAT would make banks and governments SUPER MAD and declare us outlaws bouahahahah.
There's an idea... then people could trade different coins or crypto notes without having to go through an online marketplace. It could also reduce the need for currency exchange (like USD for euros) when traveling if it caught on
Wow, that is so encouraging, hope one day I would be able to do so too~
Keep posting, upvoting, and connecting with people! I hope the best for you.
Cool, thanks, all the best to you too, Steem ont
What an amazing thing to hear! Sooo cool! I can't wait until it catches on so that's common. Thanks for sharing. Made me smile for sure. Xx, Kay
Glad to make you smile! Steemit seems to have that effect :)
For real! My page has done better in this first week than I ever could have hoped. Looks like with the hard fork I've got some rent money, too..!
Yeah, the hardfork seems pretty great! I'm glad you're doing well and enjoying Steemit!
Thanks :).

Ahh stories like this give me hope that I can one day too pay for things using cryptocurrency. And you're very lucky you know someone who accepts it already. I hope my favourite restaurant gets into cryptocurrency soon enough ;)
Haha, true! When will I be able to walk into Starbucks and buy coffee with crypto??
makes me think we already live in the future... great post, thanks for sharing :) and congratulations!
Thanks. The future is now, and we get to be a part of it!
Yes thats what I like to here. Next you will buy the building with Steem and have him paying you!
I never thought I would be successful with cryptocurrency, why not try my hand at real estate? Success can come from anywhere!
Correct Cecilia I started a few years back wanted to be debt free live in Hawaii and surf as much as I want. We are developing a few rentals that we own now for some steady residual income. I like realestate even though I don't like paperwork ;-( I like finding properties that people want to get rid of and snatching it up hold it for a bit and sell it ;-) Aloha Rik
That sounds pretty awesome. Especially being in Hawaii, I bet you find people willing to pay more money to rent from you.
I hope so! You are doing good I am proud of you. Many people would not be as smart as you are with their earnings as you know!
That's so kind of you to say! A few years ago, I heard someone say that if you have cash or dollars in a regular bank account, you're losing money to inflation. Their tip was to invest in different ventures or in accounts with higher returns, and I've been trying to find ways to do that ever since!
You are welcome you deserve it Cecilia. I have been collecting a few cryptos every month. Its sort of fun and so far they have all gone up. I have litecoin bitcoin and ethereum so far.
This is really fantastic! I had no idea that STEEM was making such inroads. Time to convert some of my bitcoin...
Part of what's so great about Steemit is that you can earn SBD without having to convert any other crypto. By posting and curating, you could keep your bitcoin and diversify by earning steem dollars and trading or investing those.
Hmmm...thank you for that insight. I had noticed that my posts are earning what appear to be dollars, even before I converted a little BTC. I also awoke this morning to some sort of award, highlighted at the top of my wallet.
Your posts earn rewards when they're upvoted, which is why the amount of money on the post grows. After 7 days, the earnings from that post get awarded mostly to you and partially to your curators. The portion that goes to you can be steem power or split between steem dollars and power.
Love that!
It's great because the more steem power you have, the more your votes are worth, and that leads to greater rewards for curation.
I've noticed that some members of this community have some INSANE wallet balances! And they haven't even been on the platform for very long. What an inspiration!
Im new in steemit and your post made me way much more motivated because I really need this hope you will help me by upvoting and following littel bit of support would make me so happy
following you and resteeming this post and finally totally upvoting
I'm happy that my story could be motivating. I'm finding Steemit to be a great resource with a supportive community, and I'm sure that you will too!
Good job girl! I also felt in love with Steemit community and I'm about to stay for good! 😁
I'm so happy for you!
That's great! Go girl!
Thanks!
wow thats awesome! this was a very encouraging story. Hope you all the best
Wow now that is awesome <3 thanks for sharing
You're welcome! I hope you find it encouraging.
Congrats @ceciliakeirstead, this is great to hear!
Thank you! I've been using Steemit to pay my rent almost all summer now... I'm hoping some of this week's posts get a little more traction than they have now, though. I don't want to have to go back to cash if I don't have to!
