Epic Reward Pool Rapist @Grumpycat Unveils Fascist Roadmap

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

The account @Grumpycat with sock account @checkthisout has been mercilessly raping the reward pool for thousands of dollars with the most flagrant content consisting mostly of comments saying only 'SBD correction'. He has also retaliated against anyone who dares to point it out or flag him.

Now @Grumpycat has made his first post and it's not to justify his own misdeeds it's about how he's had enough with people paying to have their posts promoted and eating into his profits.
Warning to vote buyer/sellers! - Introducing GrumpyCompliance, mandatory in 14 days. (No more post-promotion allowed past 3.5 days)

As an active user of these promotion bots this doesn't really change too much for me since I currently promote posts of all ages. This will just add another variable to the game and present higher risks. The rule itself doesn't worry me that much.

What worries me is that we have a new fascist in town that is pretending to be righteous.

This person actively retaliated against being flagged for abusing the reward pool and is now threatening flags for lesser deeds. We have a dangerous person with no integrity and an awful lot of stake now trying to make up rules and enforce them arbitrarily while also making far worse transgressions themselves.

Be careful in your support of this person they have shown they should not be trusted and do not have Steem's best interest in mind

UPDATE: @Grumpycat has flagged this post and decided to do a little more raping by upvoting useless comments from @checkthisout.

What happened grumpy, you used to be cool, you've changed maan
I can't keep wasting my VP on flags if nobody else is willing to flag too.

100% flagged .. Don't nuke me bro

Hey ausit, why did you ignore the tag spam post right above you?

TBH I didn't notice the tag spam, I figured a long term user like contentjunkie would know better then that :(

Removed my vote (and sacrificed the curation rewards), not that it makes much difference at this point.

I got yer back. We gotta check and balance our home. Thanks for helping, @ausbitbank.

This is your response? Excuse me Mr. @grumpycat, new Steemian here. I just joined. Have been doing a lot of promoting for Steemit. I feel weird about promoting this site while you just sit there like an asshole clapping and giving no explanation. I guess rich people don't need to give an explanation.

Do you mind? No? Okay. I'm curious if you've provided this GIF because the accusations or whatever stated above are true? "Bravo you've figured me out!" Some say you're doing something good that I fail to fully see but you're also dumping a lot of Steem on bittrex. Not sure if this helps and this can't be a cashing out due to panic since you just powered up last month.

I agree with your voting bots issue. I really do. At least the ridiculous ones. I've gotten some help form minnowsupport that has made my stay so far very worthy for as little that I generated.

My problem is that what you're doing, combined with other... ridiculous payouts floating around, I am literally seeing my payout decline throughout the week as a result. Upvotes weren't taken away, earnings were, since you are sucking up all the rewards.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that your...efforts...whether valid or not, are literally affecting minnows.

This can't be something you desire, since you just dumped a fat stack of doe into this back in November.

So can you please stop clapping with that face and explain something? You are playing your part well but even I can see that you're not trying to destroy the platform a month after powering up.

I know I am treading on thin ice by responding to you. I have a feeling that I'm talking to a wall. Hello GrumpyWall

My problem is that what you're doing, combined with other... ridiculous payouts floating around, I am literally seeing my payout decline throughout the week as a result. Upvotes weren't taken away, earnings were, since you are sucking up all the rewards.

This. That also happens when people buy votes. They selfishly move however much of the reward pool towards their post, and everyone else here takes a hit.

The fluctuating value of Steem can also make our posts rise and drop in value.

Your comparison is faulty since the bots vote on a timer.

In your post you called someone a fascist. You did not agree with how they'd retaliate if someone spoke up. Understandable. I agree. Retaliation causes more harm than good.

You just flagged my account about 200 times. Your reason, in your words, was retaliation.

Screenshot (310).png

You also called me a hypocrite.

I offered a solution under the comment you left me on this post.

I look forward to handling this situation as professionals. It has been reported as abusive behavior. I believe both of us can come out of this on top.

The ball is in your court. Have a good day.

The SP is almost equal. You actually have slightly more but have used up more vote power.

"You also called me a hypocrite."

You came to my post and plastered it with comments insulting me. You self voted to ensure exposure. I responded to you but never flagged. I came to your post and left a comment that was upvoted to ensure visibility and you flagged it.

You feel it's okay to self vote comments for visibility in posts for yourself but not for others to do so on yours and that makes you a hypocrite.

If you want the flags removed simply remove yours.

Done deal!

  • For the record: my self vote only lasted a few minutes. Other people voted. The vote removal was documented below and those actions and times will remain on the blockchain forever.

yeah, exactly. I did not consider the upvote bots causing this also. When I watch a payout go from $0.48 to $0.39 it is the direct result of the rewards pool being abused by people like grumpy cat and those with upvote bots. Just earlier today I had a $20,000 account message me on steem.chat saying they'll give me a 60% upvote for 1 sbd. Doing some quick math I was not going to get any return on his upvote. I told him to go do his job and curate real content instead of scamming .

The price of steem was actually steady as I watched my rewards get lower. In fact, I am pretty sure that if payouts are listed in SBD and it shows I'm getting $1.00 , the price of SBD can go to the moon and the payout is still 1 sbd to split between author and curators. That is, unless someone starts abusing the rewards pool. In which case, I will be able to watch the payout dwindle.

You're not wrong. I'll definitely give you that.

This post is a perfect example of junk taking money out of the hands of these new folks who just want to enjoy the place. Some start gathering steam, they see $1 beside their post. It's exciting! Things are looking up! Then they watch it drop. Maybe I might not notice a post drop a few dimes. They certainly will. I know from experience as well. I was them once.

I could easily force my posts to the top, on a daily basis. Easily. I don't. It doesn't feel right. It feels dirty.

Have a nice day. Hopefully this cat doesn't flag you for speaking. Good luck to you.

That much voting power is just wow.. go on you deserve the reward for having this much voting power..

crazy cat man :D fennaaa ..

I could stare at this gif for hours, it deserves every penny.

I know, it’s like the villain of a movie.

Well, if we just stop feeding the whales with our SBD for votes maybe real authors will have a chance to earn something and make Steemit a real social media. All this unnecessarily drama is just harming the platform. How paying for votes is helping anyone, besides the few at the top?
All I see is how the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer. Is this what Steemit is all about? Pointing fingers and raping the rewards?

Eh, at this point, they don't need me to throw them my lousy .02 votes. They can upvote their own posts a lot more efficiently than worrying about mine. It's those of us who actually have to court followers in a painful and time-consuming way who are suffering, I guess. Got to love capitalism.

Part of me has to wonder if some of the whales, who are legitimite multi-millionaires, just like fucking with everyone on Steemit. Like, they're already retired and a fun way to spend their free time is trolling everyone who's still trying to grind a few dollars out of it.

I have no way to answer that question. Still, they have to realize these games aren't helping anybody. They make the platform look bad and themselves look worse. I suggested it to some other people i know, but if the whole thing is just a cynical game, I might still try to play sometimes, but it's hard to suggest it to others.

I do know a very interesting AND unrelated post I voted upon and commented upon was downvoted to oblivion in this childish competition. The downvotes had NOTHING to do with the content. Here's the link: https://steemit.com/technology/@themarkymark/the-wadsworth-constant

Or, they could be trying to devalue steem so they can afford even more of it. It's all over YouTube as 2018 top pick.

In life, if we stop paying taxes, they put us in a cage.

Here, we can stop paying taxes(metaphorically), and see positive change.

Pointing fingers and raping the rewards?
I think you're starting to get it.

Using irrelevant tags, especially popular tags, makes it hard to find good and relevant content.
Please try to use only relevant tags when posting.

#introduceyourself / #introducemyself

The “introduceyourself/introducemyself” tag is for creating a post that tells us about you. Users are encouraged to use this tag exclusively for that, and not to reuse it.

Blatant misuse of tags is spam. Spam is discouraged by the community and may result in action from the cheetah bot.

More Info: Abuse Guide - 2017.

That tag is extraordinarily relevant to this post. The post is about introducing the nefarious side of a large stake user who recently introduced themselves to the community with threats of flags. If it was in #IntroduceMyself that would be improper.

Hypocrisy!

I feel like I shouldn't have to say this to someone with 70 rep, but the #introduceyourself tag? really?

I do love scrolling through the tag to meet new Steemians and instead having it be full of unrelated crap

It's actually better for new stemmians to see first minute where they intend to post.
Later we could throw it on them: "See? You have been warned".

Lol, you kiled it bro!

Wow im always learning here.

This kind of juvenile behavior drives me bonkers. I wish we could all just play nice and use the system naturally and let the rewards build organically. I just remind myself “this too shall pass”

Correct we should just wait for efforts to be rewarded
We should not hurry

But how long can one last before they are rewarded? 6months? a year? By the time most people, who actually CONTRIBUTE genuine content, get rewarded, the "fuck this shit," mentality has already made them kick steemit to the curb.

That's why our tagline reads 'Come for the rewards, Stay for the community'. Everyone needs to learn to do that. Haven't you noticed? Persons who gave up on the community last year are coming back now, seeing the success others who stuck it out have made. It's the basic entrepreneurial mindset: Anything Worthwhile Takes Time.

:)

Hoping rarely gets you anywhere, Sara, but I join you in this particular hope.

Madam Sara, you just spoke my mind! It makes me so sad to see the ongoing arguments between witnesses, whales and dolphins. But yes, "this too shall pass". The rest of us should just continue playing nice, as you said, and the system will correct itself.
Keep Steeming! :)

Fuck grumpycat

I just want to make good content. Do the steemit administrators have no power to police obvious dual-accounts that abuse the system?

I know we like the decentralized manner of steemit, but damn.

I like the real Grumpy Cat. Don't know about the one on here. I'm new (5 months) and still learning. What do you guys think about Cleverbot? I'll admit that I have used it recently because it's fun. What I would like to know if it's wrong to use it?

What does @cleverbot say about that?

Thank you. As are you.

It seems like everything "blockchained" becomes technically more centralized than a bank when someone is whale enough to take over.

Fits right into the current ongoing flag war and looks bad to newcomers. But it is good that we see that now where there is still time to overthink the stake-based flagging. I am sure there are several ways to have a better system. I don't want a malicious company or government to abuse the flagging function to demoneytize unwanted content.

Some might say all this is inevitable. Trying to create a utopia within a corrupt system is impossible. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer because capital. A division of labour is already rearing its ugly head. We can only piss with the genitalia we have I suppose.

Thanks for exposing that!

LOL is he aware that memos to bittrex or any other exchange should NOT be encrypted?

Lost that money.

if someone delegates me a ton of SP, i will use it for the sole purpose of downvoting garbage like this. I really will. I will spend the time combing through the site to find bad actors, unambiguously bad actors, and I will downvote them.

This is horrible garbage and is almost singlehandedly ruining the site.

I'm dead serious. @ned? @dan? @freedom?

@steemit? You have like 71 million SP and you're doing nothing with it.

Delegate to me and I'll do nothing with it besides downvoting clear, unambiguous abuse.

Anyone? Anyone with SP who cares about Steem as a platform long term? Try me.

Isn't posting this in #introduceyourself sort of spammy yourself?

I have no stake in this flag battle you two have going (I know that sort of "outing" and fighting is what gets some people off on here, I just have better shit to do) but it's sort of hypocritical to be breaking one rule while calling someone else out for breaking another.

I come here (trending/introduceyourself) to find posts by new members and greet them... make them feel like SteemIt is a fun and welcoming place. Cluttering it up with these ego battles and drama just sucks man. :-/

I'm actually surprised you called him on this. I don't even know why he has so many followers.

Also, do you have any idea why he says "sbd correction" so often?

Well the current value of SBD is far more than it's intended $1USD so I would assume "sbd correction" means that the SBD earned from those comments will be sent to market and rapidly sold to help push the price of SBD down. In other words it's saying "I will sell this at any price for bitcoin".

The white paper doesn't really say much about making sure the price of SBD doesn't go above $1, it just has an interest bearing mechanism that can be kicked into effect to add value to SBD to keep it from going below $1. I'm not sure why anyone would be so concerned that the value is going up. I think it very likely is due to speculative investment, but forcing a crash isn't going to help anyone.

The language surrounding SBD in the whitepaper and the way it functions in the system make it obvious the intent was for it to be a dollar peg.

"forcing a crash isn't going to help anyone"

Crash is such a violent word. Correction would be better. It should correct over time. The only way to get SBD is post rewards and to get the most you need Steem power. That drives up the price of Steem which in turn causes more SBD to be printed which will increase the supply and drive down the price.

It is definitely meant to be a peg, but the only forced mechanism it has is one that exerts upward pressure. The opposite effect of enforcing negative interest would not be very reasonable. A correction is better, but I call it a crash because that looks like what's being attempted here. Someone who is extremely wealthy hoarding as much currency as they can with the sole intention of dumping it at once to lower the price is not a correction, it's a manufactured crash.

only been here a week, and the infighting is incredible, for two days berniesanders, and the rest , I still have no idea why everyone is fighting, guess I will work it out in time.

I see. I checked out both of his accounts and it appears they're literally there for the purpose of being upvoted. How did he gain his follower base anyway? 300+ followers on an account that doesn't post then 50+ on an account that only posts "sbd correction" or "it's a joke."
I'm genuinely curious as to how he has been able to "rape the pool" as people say. Bought a lot of steem power and kept reinvesting (I don't think that's practical though).

If there is a lot of money invested in an account it tends to gain followers if for no other reason than hopes of getting their attention and upvotes.

So that he can upvote the comment...

He didn't NOT add @randowhale to the list of UpVote bots!! Why? What subterfuge connection is there?

Another reason to not like cats. Ugh.

I'm still new here and haven't jumped in the steemit game yet. I've been watching and looking how everything works . what i do notice in the last month is that i never click on a post with no upvotes . for some reason i just click on posts that has many upvotes and comments.

I think steemit is the future of social media and am excited to see what happens. been reading daily posts for the last 2 months and thst 7-8 days were the first days i didn't come to steemit to check out the lastest posts. everyday for 2 months I've been so excited to see all the new tools and apps coming out for steemit. but after 2 months i'm getting burnt out on steemit. it seems like everyday on hot and trendy pages are just the same people over n over.

don't get me wrong, i love the idea and model steemit uses. but i can see some things have to change to make the site really work for the long term

I really wish steemit was totally decentralized
Nowadays it seems like whales with huge steem power can decide anything and do whatever they wish.
As far as i knew grumpy was flagging haejin for abusing the reward pool, like it was against it those things but now grumpycat himself abusing the reward pool and posting things like that shows the cat got confused. It was neccesary to someone point about it, thanks for posting about it hope it gets the attention of the right ones.

Well, at first I though GC was just trying to do it as an example to clearly illustrate what can be done. I'm not sure. I suppose if I had a whole bunch of SP, it would be tempting to do it. At least, now everybody knows.

Good editing photo...
Catler.....

I think anyone trying to enforce their own rules is bad for steem. Just because someone has a larger stake does not mean they should control other users.

Both grumpycat and voting "bots" are hurting the platform.

Give the guy the chance to redeem himself with a weekly list of those he downvotes

Okaayyy not sure what to say.

well, well... that turned into a hell of a shitstorm pretty quickly...

Should be clam for the sucesses
