This is my submission for the #steemsilverround contest organized by @phelimint. The goal of the competition is to design a 1 oz silver bullion Steem coin for 2018. I wanted to make this design a little bit different, and when I pictured the coin at first, I wanted the Steem Logo to be punched through the coin. This for me adds a different element and also creates more contrast for the logo.
For the overall texture I wanted to include the digital elements of the technology in the Steem Blockchain. Naturally I chose the lines which you find on a circuit board.

I like the background detail the best. The negative space along with textures and reflective spaces are well designed as well.

This is super cool man, I love the look of the reverse proof with the frosted background. I'm not sure if the mint is currently set up for anything like this, but I also know they love testing out new ideas and giving things a try. I would image it would need to be struck twice and likely with two different dies with a round in the tumbler in between. It would certainly raise the price of the round but would certainly be a premium piece.
Thanks ! I must admit I didn't take the minting technique and limitations into consideration for this design as I don't really know what they are. But when designing something new it's always a learning curve and that is awesome. Looking forward to see what they have to say about the design.
Further more I would like to say that this competition is an awesome initiative as I think that silver and gold still go hand in hand with crypto - it's the same goal, keeping your own money in your own hands and control.

What about a 1/3 ounce inner with the cut-out, encased in the 2/3 oz outer ring? Like the bi-metal polar bears, except both silver? I guess it would be a crazy challenge to mint it, in either case. Laser cut all the planchets first?
Thats an interesting idea! They have checked it now and unfortunately the middle cant be cut out straight through, and has to be closed. I think it will still look cool.

Hey man, It turns out the cost would be prohibitive to attempt a project like this, I have still included your design, but I'm wondering if you could do a version with an intact center.
That is no problem at all. I can change it anyway needed for it to be able to be produced. Except for making an intact center what else is needed to make the project feasible?

Nice one @dandesign86, I also was thinking to make a 3D version but finally make a 2D projection. I really like the cut in the middle.
Thanks a lot :) It was hard to use 3 D rendering for this one, I almost gave up at one point. Metallic surfaces can be tricky in the program. I really like your design as well !
The thing with the metallic surface is to get a good HDR environment so the reflection becomes more realistic. Like a hemispherical environment but not render it only the reflection.
Exactly, I only found one suitable one, for the other environments the reflections where either too strong or two week. This was better
The best solution in this kind of render is to get an indoor environment and to blur it, then exclude it from render and keep the reflection.

Thanks a lot for your comment. A kind tip, as i have also been a newbie here, is to not ask someone to upvote and follow etc. I did that as well in the beginning, but no one likes that. My advice is just to follow people you are genuinely interested in which will create a correspondance that naturally could lead to a follow. There is no point to get someone to follow you if you are not interested in them and vice versa, i had to learn that after a while when my feed was stuffed. Now i only follow a small amount of people that i like.

HOLY SHIT thats amazing with the punched out design! not sure if it would be possible with the current Mint that will be making them, but it would be worth asking about it! it would mean the thickness or diameter of the coin would be slightly larger than normal. Great work mate! would this be possible @phelimint @ejr ?
You are right, it would have to be thicker or wider in diameter to make up for the punched holes. Let's see if it's possible to make, otherwise it's back to the drawing board hehe
If not this year then maybe we can make it happen next time round it's an excellent design and very well drawn I wish I could do computer art! Cheers mate :-)

Is is the same on the front and back? Any words on the other side or edge of the coin or a date? The first take had numbering x/1500 etched on the rim.
What if you put some small words up and down the parallel lines?
I don't know what I'm talking about, but the punch through is pretty unique. I'm not sure if the mints could make coins like that with their current die process.
I want to write "In The Blockchain We Trust" STEEM at the top hehe. I don't know if they would be able to make it but I think it would look quite unique if the figure it out

Incidentally we both might have picked up on the same idea yesterday, you know, like several people inventing the same invention in multiple places at the very same time. I designed this yesterday, for the steem basic income redesign contest...
