#1 Idea To Help You Your Take Hand Off That Vote Button - Make A Meaningful Comment
Always make a meaningful comment to the author's post if you like it. Be very sincere and make sure you reply based on what the author posted. You should try to find a way to express your appreciation for the post they made. (Note: an author will like that better than a very small upvote)
Examples Of Good Comments
Note: not every person is a wordsmith and gifted with perfect grammar or style. But in these 3 cases you can see the people actually looked at the article and took the time to ask a question, comment on the quality, or give their appreciation. It is not that hard to do so and will express yourself better than an upvote will.
Examples Of Weak Comments
Note: these comments are weak because they looked like they were just "stop-bys" (someone trying to just stick their small opinion and hoping to get an author upvote for money). Most authors disregard these comments and view them as fake. So just take the time and use your own genuine words and do it right. (its not that much harder to say something nice and meaningful from the heart, but it makes a big difference)
#2 Idea To Help You Your Take Hand Off That Vote Button - Resteem It!
If you like an article/post and you don't have an upvote to give, just resteem it. The reason is if you truly like it and want to help the author, then putting it on your page will help the author get more views (see picture B). A resteem is much more valuable to an author than a small vote.

Note if you want to tell the author that you resteemed it, its ok to do so, but you should also say something nice too. Don't just say "resteemed" in the comment box. Say something nice about the post and say the post was so good that you are resteeming it. (this is a personal choice whether to tell them or not)
#3 Idea To Help You Your Take Hand Off That Vote Button - Tag A Comment With @originalworks
If the article is original and no one has tagged it yet with @originalworks, then you can do so and it is a way to help the author to earn at least something from the post. (Especially if the author is small and not a whale)

All you have to do is to go to the reply button and just type in @originalworks into a SEPARATE reply from the one you complimented them on. Again, only do this if you like the post and feel that the author needs some appreciation. It helps them and is a sign of respect that you would try to get them some payout.
#4 Idea To Help You Your Take Hand Off That Vote Button - Use The Power Of @resteemable
Use the much bigger power of @resteemable to resteem it through their network. This works the same as the concept behind you resteeming it, but it has the power of a bigger account behind it.

To do this, you simply need to go into the URL of ANY post, and replace the https:// with the 2 letters re (see Picture D above). And this is what it will look like before you send it by clicking the arrow (see Picture E below)

What will happen next if you do it right is you will see a screen that asks you if you would like to donate. Note: of course since you are small they don't expect you to donate, they are a service to help the small guys and the donating is for the bigger fish
Once you see this screen, you did it RIGHT! Hit the back button and you're done. The request is sent and it will be processed automatically by @resteemable.
Conclusion:
I hope these quick tips will help you to show your appreciation in other ways, rather than over-using your upvotes. Upvoting is good, but these tips are better (especially when you are smaller). Everyone here wants you to succeed. And we all know that in order to accomplish this we all must do our best with the tools we have. Thankfully steemit is filled with some awesome tools to allow that to happen.

Well said. I am slowly learning all about steemit, and already I've read a few great articles by @davemccoy. Good job and keep up the good work! Though I am still wondering if a 100% vote from me is worth .00, why not up vote anyway? At 100% steem power, is it worth something in the thousandths? Or should I keep my power up so I have it when it is worth something?
That's a valid point and certainly one that many will agree with. I personally think it was uplifting to learn how to live without it. It kinda forced me to develop other skills, and now that I have learned those (instead of just using upvotes as a means of appreciation, I think I am in a much better position. You never lose the use of your voting machine, but learning how to comment in ways that are thought through can be very good for a social platform because it does several things all at once. You get to know someone and they get to know you, others get to know you and sometimes will follow you just because of a thoughtful comment,and three you can get upvoted on being smart, funny, kind, or appreciative and polite. Those earn money yes, but they also build your reputation which is a big part of success here.
So I agree not to worry too much about upvote (one way or the other), I still hope you continue to engage author the way you engaged me here. Its nice to hear a compliment on my post and I'm always happy when I get real thought back on the subject!

It's funny that minnows want to vote all the time when their votes makes next to zero cents. These days, my voting power is almost always 99% I spent almost 10days up voting and earned about 0.007sbd on them. On the other hand, I have made far more from reading posts and commenting. The only ones that should upvote with the intention to earn are those with large SP in my opinion
I agree with you completely... That's why I feel like its a battle to educate them. I have also earned far more on any comment than I ever earn of my posts... This one will be lucky to break 0.20 and I get upvotes on comments over $1 on many many occasions. I'm glad you get it @ninjadroidx, and I'm glad we are on the same team going forward. As far as bots go, I'm still digging into the issue... I know that some of them like @resteemable are there to help the little guys and trying to give the little some help... On the other hand, I've also heard issue surrounding some of the ridiculous payouts on a very few posters who have sorta rigged the system so to speak.
I haven't formed a full opinion yet, I'm still in the learning mode. I can see benefits, but I can also see how they can be misused too. I've also seen others try to form initiatives to fight back, and again at this point I'm just trying to learn and figure out what I can. So I'll check out the article that you resteemed, you brought it to my attention and I respect that. If you find any other information about that issue, or any other don't hesitate to tag me and send me a message.

Instead of upvoting (while your meter powers back), just get out there and meet new people and make new friends and connections. I am glad I found this post from you. Not 5 minutes before I was wondering how this works and here I am. I take from your advice that NOT upvoting is better then voting too much. So I guess I understand that but the whole picture is still fuzzy.

I'm glad you took the time to tell me your thoughts and glad you found this. Thank you for commenting too. Any I'm not aware of a steemit for dummies but I cover many topics in lots of my blog posts (probably 10 on steemit things I've found), so feel free to go through and read any article you want. And if you have any questions about anything, just tag me in a comment @davemccoy.
As to the advice, yes it is better to not upvote as long as you don't have any power to your votes. But that assumes that you show at least one other way of letting the author know you appreciate the work. This will change as you "grow up" and then you will use your upvotes for other purposes, but for now learning to write comments and using the other 2 tools is far more valuable for everyone.
On raising the value of your vote, it is 2 things (I cover this in a post a few days ago)... but 1) you need to let your power meter be charged. Keep it up in the 90s (unless you are going to be gone for a period of time like a vacation). And 2) as you get "STEEM POWER" (SP) you're votes will be worth more per vote. Essentially every 43 SP your vote will be worth another 0.01 SP per vote cast.
On the wallet, I'm in the process of putting together that article and it will be in 2 components. 1) what are your objectives? (ie cash in your hand or invest in STEEM POWER for the future)... and 2) the different avenues to take your various currencies STEEM and Steem dollars (SBD) and turn them into more STEEM POWER if you choose to stay invested in the platform. This article will be out in about a week. So keep checking to see if I release it or just ask me any day you think about it... I'm definitely excited about how this part of the system works and have been very encouraged with the routes I'm exploring. If you want to dig on your own, you can check out one platform I particularly like, it is @bumper and they have lived up to their words so far (3 days into my tests). Here is an article to read about them and their sister @flagship.
On your third question, I know that you can send it within the steemit community very easily by clicking on your SBD button and selecting transfer (then the instructions are very straightforward, you just need the username, the amount, and type a note into the note box). Outside of here, you would send it through and exchange and I think bittrex.com is the biggest. (check on exchanges that accept steem on google search).

Its really easy to do and I've done it 63 times now over 4 days and I've been thrilled. It is an upvote service that is designed to help us smaller guys/gals leverage our money in our wallets to gain power and also to multiply our money.
What happens is you send @bumper in from 0.10 SBD to 0.50 SBD (SBD is "steem dollars" in your wallet) and then the a recent post URL of an article that you want them to upvote (3 days old or newer). Hint: you just open your post that you want upvoted and go to the url bar and copy the whole link and paste it into the comment section when you send @bumper the SBD. To do this go to the wallet in your account and click on the steem dollar section (see below) and click "transfer"
Next just enter in the "to" section bumper
Enter in the amount: just put in an even number (0.10, 0.20, 0.30, 0.40, 0.50)
Copy and paste the URL of the post you would like upvoted
Then they will upvote your post 3x what you sent in. So if you sent them 0.10 SBD, then you will get a vote on your post you send them that will "bump" it up by at least 0.33. Its a good way to grow and make money, so I suggest you start doing it so you can learn how it works. You will be sending in hundreds of these as soon as you learn it.
@bumper will be setting rules in the coming weeks to put limits on how many submissions each person can do, so the sooner you see how it works, the more you can benefit as they set these rules. I will be writing about the economics of how STEEM and SBD work in a upcoming blog post, and you will understand the impact even more at that time. So this is just a headsup to my friends to start your learning process on something I have found.
If you find any others that are "real" and "genuine", and like us smaller, then you can pass this info along. I want to help the smaller "good ones" out here to grow together and at the same time to learn how to share with each other. (like in this post to my friends)

Yes they are very good, I'm glad you tried it... I'm going to be going more in depth in a future post, but for now I wanted some of the good people to get familiar with the concept. Be careful about submitting more than 4 days though, they can squeeze you in (like it seems they did), but sometimes it doesn't make the cutoff.

And make sure you watch the post you sent it on... They should get 3x the amount you sent.So on the first one of .2 SBD you should see your post grow (from their upvote) by $0 .60 or more... and on the 2nd post you did for .5 SBD, you should see an upvote of $1.50 or more. The way to check (which I have been doing in my tests, it to write down where the posts are already generating and see if you get the "bump" from @bumper. Let me know if I didn't make it clear enoough to you... I'm getting a little tired hahaha

I'm trying to understand the lingo so I understand better your service... I am very very pleased with this result, but I'm not sure how the bidding bots work and exactly what each of those terms mean. Each user who resteemed the original post was awarded a million pockets; up until the end of the payout window.
He gave away about a billion, from memory.
That's it, though; there will never be any more.
People were trading them heavily for a while, but they're mostly just kept, now.
Lots of noobs haven't heard of them.
Give it a year or so and there will be some street cred attached, since the only way to get them will be from early adopters.
They're not listed on any exchanges, and I haven't seen a recent sale, so its hard to know what they're worth.
You guys amaze me at the creativity and the brains involved with these projects. And the scary thing is we are so early in the learning cycle. You have opened my eyes and I'm going to keep my 5000 pockets too. I want that street cred lol...
Its very cool and if you know of any other initiatives like this and I can pass it along to the people I connect with, then I'm all ears. I love to learn and be surprised and your pockets tip did both :)

Ha ha. i like this post, it's honest and funny and it gives out valuable information that i could do with right now. I've been going round in circles for days, trying to work out the difference in voting power, how to make it higher and where to view it. Thanks alot for the post. i totally get what you are saying and i agree whole heartedly.
