I came to Steemit just under a year ago. As a blogger, I was looking for more. Steemit looked to be a promising diamond in the rough, and I still believe that. I do believe though that when the masses come to understand the concept of social media platforms that pay, Steemit will have some stiff competition, even though Steemit has had such a great jump on the competition (Facebook already has membership and a great UI... all they need to do is create their own currency!) When EOS is launched this summer, I would expect to see other emerging social media platforms built on this next generation blockchain, and unless Steemit irons out a bunch of wrinkles, it may never amount to much more than it is now. Look at the value of Steem as it struggles to maintain it's recent gains. Changes need to be made, more witnesses need to be incorporated, communities need to be built, bot policy needs to be adoptet, and a better UI would be nice. Unless the Steemit devs get busy, I see nothing but stagnation in Steemit's future. And I have never hoped this much to be so wrong about something.

I believe steemit could eventually take over the number one spot in time. Facebook is failing miserably with their arms reaching out to own the world. Many people are scurrying to protect their information that they thought was private. On the other hand, there is no privacy here and it's always been very open so people only put out what they want to be seen. Who doesn't want to earn money for their posts? Only a fool would say no to that. I can't see any other platform out there that offers up what they do here. Well it is not without flaw or small little problems, there is nothing so huge at the moment that would make me leave.

Ok, actually I don't think that Steemit will be on the topbecausee of its alignemnt. You said it yourself not everyone is a blogger, but through Steemit people become bloggers which is great.
I think applications like Dtube or the first SMT Appics will have better chances for mass adoption compared to Steemit. Simply becauseInstagrama is easier to use than medium.com for example and video is the best format to connect with people in my opinion.
Dtube is already in existence, but I could imagine that they will turn it sooner or later into an SMT which would be good in my opinion.

I have done a good research on decentralized social platforms and social media platforms that rewards its users and i found a number of them such as,sola,yours.org,wildspark,selflerry, lit just to name a few but steemit still tops the list.
Its way easier to get rewards on steemit than any other decentralized social platforms. As much as people criticize the rewarding system on steemit, its actually way better than rewarding systems on other decentralized platforms and actually works. The rewards on these other socialplatforms is in pennies and takes a significant amount of time to accumulate to a reasonable amount that can be transferred. As much as social giants like facebook might develop their own coin, i highly doubt they will use this coin to reward their users. Their main intention is to keep up with the current technology which is basically blockchain technology. I think if the social giants develop their own coin,these coins will mainly be used to transact businesses and pay for services such as adverts on such giant platforms . The most probable thing they will do to ensures users benefit is by probably introducing a tip button where a user can tip another user.
I highly doubt it will be possible to mine coins on a platform like facebook,instagram or twitter through likes if at all they come up with their own coin or token.

There seem to be a shift in power in social networks where not one social network is a clear number one. This is mostly due to the fact that each social network brings something unique to the table, thus comparing becomes hard Twitter and Facebook are both social networks yes, but are they the same? Hardly
Expanding without touching the creative side of Steemit will indeed be the big challenge. I am not fond of the referral system as it promotes cheating with multiple account. The witness program is something I can't really say much about, as I lack the basic knowledge. But as it seems more a popularity contest which heavily favors the early users it isn't something that really peaks my interest. Giving 20 people some power over a million is just absurd from the beginning.
For me the biggest challenge seems to be not finding new members, but rather keeping the new members motivated. After the first introduction post which often gets a lot of response and upvotes the majority faces the harsh truth that most of their work won't be noticed by anyone no matter how good the quality is or how much effort they put in it. You can't keep someone like that aboard nor can you blame them that they quit.
I'm not half as experienced with Steemit as you are but I know for a fact the biggest truth here lies in: "either we will change or somebody else will make a better project". I just fear that the people capable of the biggest changes on Steemit are also the people that are the least willing to do so
We need:
I really like the taging of other people as well as governing bodies, some sort of mods that at least challenge upvoted and posts from users that appear to have a spammy behaviour as well as monitor downvotes. I don't know how much the latter would be needed if this existed. Tags could be possible on a third party website using the api, but than you would need a small community of devoted people from the start otherwise there won't be anything to gain in the eyes of people that aren't part of it.

I think Steemit has the opportunity to achieve this task over time. While the competitors are limited in the consideration to crypto compatibility. It's practically #1 in respect for what it offers the community. The selling point on competitor IO, I resteemed from another post, is duration of ability to gain reward in upvotes. The claim is that a steemit post is closed after seven days. The competitor mentions UUNIO as allowing users posts to act as crypto currency upvote style mines for the duration of the posts existence. The long term strategy offering may be a selling point. At current there are at least 1,000,000 Steemit users which is significant growth since I started around 600,000's. I think that I may engage in both formats publishing unique content to either. I also feel that the selling point makes a lot of sense where efforts consider longevity in earnings rather than active response. But, the truth in fact of the matter is that I find most posts find engagement near immediately after their release to the primary form of social media. Whereas, engagements from other social media happen all the time. But, engagements happenings are relatively active. I suspect this happens due to the feeds and RSS style of content view traversing the internet. The website Pinterest grew quickly because image files gained great SEO from google. Configurations like these are extremely valuable for those whom wish to engage consistently. Will Steemit have to compete with UUNIO and extend the time for posts to earn upvotes? Will that consideration extend for the entirety of the posts existence online? It's a simple adjustment that can be nullified. In most races I find runners that get ahead of the pack early tend to win more races. At the moment I consider Steemit the number one social media platform offering users upvotes reward them in crypto. We shall see what's to come.

This is a great post. i can't pretend to understand steemit very well yet as I'm a new user still getting to grips with the markdown guide..
I have had lots of help and advice from others but more than that i have been able to help people in other parts of the world, almost immediately, due to steem. Like i said, i don't understand the tech but i can feel its greatness!!
And a big indicator for me is the way that other social media have banned adverts for crypto. They are worried, and rightly so.
I was banned by over enthusiastic moderators for talking about steemit....They called it that crypto shit but it shows how deep this rot has gotten. Happily a few people saw what i wrote before it was taken down and i helped them link to steem. They said there was 2 week waiting time that shows the interest in my view.
People may inprove on steemit, I'm sure they will and there will be challengers to the model.But steem as a currency and steemit as a platform will survive and thrive.
We need to get the word out that people are missing out. Steemit could be their first experience of crypto and the people on here i have found will make it a positive one.

Steem the concept is great but the practical part under current footing is destined to fail... I have been cheerleader for this project but I am seeing to much of its red flags now to ignore, its basically a BTC farm for large stakeholders, it has nothing to do with quality of content and I believe those in the drivers seat aren't listening to the critics and nothing has really change.... Ned is fighting a one man battle, i cannot see him pulling this off even with SMT, most folks here are waiting to sell and cash in the BTC.... Upvoted for visibility, those who are obsess with abusers are regular cashers so its a laughing stock hence the reason why Upbit volume is down big time

I do not know if for the world it comes to making the best social network in the world but for me it is, and many will think that it is because it pays me to be here, but that is not my reason, I started on the platform when it went very well , that is, I needed to pay for my university, and this was my solution, but after a while its currency was too low and it was not profitable for me to continue working here, but the truth remained and not because I was paid but because I discovered incredible people, people who share my vision of life, person with incredible talents and that is the number one reason because steemit deserves to be the first one in everything

It won't because the distribution of steem is so uneven. That basically means that a few people hog all the rewards, others join the site get discourages and then leave.

Steemit is too complicated to use for some people so they just stay in Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. I say the condenser sites or other Steemit related sites have a higher chance to make it to number one because those are usually more user friendly.
