Quick steemit guide for the newbies and potential steemit users part 2

Hello class, yesterday we talked about some basic things about the wonderful platform we have all found ourselves in called steemit. I know some might wonder how they can make the magic of a decent payout be theirs from time to time, this helps us really fix that problem.

Scam and spam

As similar as they sound, they are tow different entities with the same disastrous end. So many people want votes, want to get noticed. I know how frustrating it is to put out content especially as a newbie and expect so many upvotes and comments, only to have your expectations cut short by getting next to nothing upvote or even nothing.

The first rule I give to my closest pals is never expect anything from people on the platform, they have a right to disappoint you because they might also be busy helping others.
The bitter truth you have to first of all understand is that everyone is accountable for his or her sp and as far as the person is not doing anything illegal with it, then they are free to use it according to their preference.

Scam is frowned upon by the community, it is the intentional action of trying to defraud members of their hard earn steem blockchain cryptocurrency either as SBD or steem.
Some individuals go as far as imitating names of those of reputable stand in a bid to swindle unsuspecting steemians of what they have. Please discard any individual claiming to be willing to upvote you at high percentage for a token save for legitimate voting services.

Spam although seemingly innocent to the spammer is equally a destructive action as scam. Have you ever nutured an "innocent" thought of just going to a person's blog to comment and advertise the link to your post in the comment section or worse still leave a seemingly irrelevant comment? That is spam. Spam defeats the purpose of community and true interaction.

Getting votes

Getting votes start communities and is further strengthened by interaction. One funny thing I have seen on the platform is a recent trend called upvote swapping cycle where people create groups with the intention of simply swapping votes with each other because they feel that is the solution.

Let me break down what is wrong with that logic: If everyone of similar sp range should simply be content with upvoting circles, at the end of the day more people will get poorer while a few gets richer.
A lot of people complain that only a few receive the high votes, guess what, the solution they came up with also causes the same problem if implemented at a higher level.

If you want votes, join a community, interact, get to know more people of different sp values, build long lasting relationships, don't complain unnecessarily, instead learn and interact necessarily.

Voting power and communities

Without voting power, voting would not be possible. Voting power is not infinite, it is finite, meaning that as much as any curator loves voting and supporting, the person is handicapped by an ever decreasing level of voting power per vote.
This leaves people with only two choices;

  • Vote high and vote a few people and reward them handsomely which creates a competition for votes
  • Vote lower than planned and reward more people but give less rewards. Even this method doesn't get everybody.

As much as I like voting people, I am usually plagued by that decision and no matter what, you cannot reward everyone, so you have to break people into smaller units and locate exceptional talents who are highly committed and under rewarded in units called communities.

It does not mean that anyone is less special, it is rather a solution to the problem at hand, a solution which does not even totally fix the problem.
Let me tell you a simple curation secret...
@80% VP, the curator would have lost about 20% of his Vote weight
@60% VP, the curator would have lost about 40% of his Vote weight
@40% VP, the curator would have lost about 60% of his Vote weight
@20% VP, the curator would have lost about 80% of his Vote weight
@0% VP, the curator would have lost 100% of his vote weight.
The truth is voting power doesn't climb back from 0% to 100% in a day.

Awesome post. Learnt something new. Very informative and helpful to newbies/minnows. Great work @ehiboss

Thanks for this. I noticed as we have a high surge in new steemians, this kind of post should be given time to time.

good subject, I'm still trying to figure this out. and voting is a tough one, My 3rd day. I set my expectation low, very low. And now I have reach it. happy happy happy. LOL I have improved my content every day with help from other steemeians. I look forward in seeing my post next week. Thanks for the tips

Hello brother..i am a beginner and your this post is really helpful to me. I have joined steemit a week ago and nothing found heart touching blog till now. But yours post has motivated me and from now i will only focus on my blogging not on upvotes. So, i am following you.
A request from my side, can you follow me back?

Thank you for this titbits, i found it important for newbies, thanks once more

This information is much welcome, especially at this point where a lot of newbies are confused.

even with my few months here, i still learnt some things i never knew, thanks boss

Ever since i stopped expecting votes from people my steemit experience has become better.

Owk this was extremely helpful. As a newbie I started out making the spam mistake and begging for upvote but with time I realised that I shoukd expect anything and that all I need to do was put out quality contents and one day i will be seen. That has worked for me a few times and that's my advice to everyone .bkeepndoing what you do , keep putting out your best work even when they earn you nothing and one day you will surely smile...

Beautiful steemit I liked veri good.

This is so true boss. Interaction is what make lot of people to tag Steemit as a community or family. The people you interact with affects your upvotes and your ego here.

It's really a great thing to see how concerned you're towards the growth of newbies, minnows Steemit and Steem at large. Indeed you are the boss, God bless you for your efforts. Upvoted and resteemed.

Thus is good man, another one i wish to add , is the creation of good contents will decrease, if one is involved in groups that swap upvotes-for-upvote, he or she might not be bothered to even make nice content when one knows that , he/she must get upvotes for every work they do whether good or bad.

And again involvement in group like this drains peoples voting power , that is when we start seeing post that got more than 500 upvotes earning less than a dollar.

Well,i got it.... This is what i need to read about. I used to wonder why one would spend hours on a write up and get zero or little upvote on such a write up,but now i see that the answer is in ineraction.... Thanks so much for the tips
Falling in love already.

From my first day here on steemit, I have always endeavoured to interact with people, not beg for or exchange upvotes and this has helped me greatly. I still think it is the best way to make it on steemit. Why? Because interacting creates a possibility of a relationship and when someone becomes interested in your affairs not because of a possible gain to them but because they truly care, then you and that person can do great things for each other. Thank you @ehiboss

Thanks, I have been wanting to ask questions on why people get high upvotes while others don't but I've gotten the answer. Joining a community will really help, communicating and upvoting others will improve our blog. I understood all you said and I have to make adjustments to be a good steemian. Thanks for sharing @ehiboss

Thanks bro.. here everybody wants to be upvoted, but in life you can't please everyone. We just have to keep the community moving.

Thank you so much for this write up.. am new here and the vote issue is really something that kills ones spirit you can imagine writing something and not getting any remarks but with this i now believe its a gradual process...
Once again thanks a bunch....

Great work bro.. Bless up. Your boy here needs help too bro

This information is really helpful... Tanx

This is really enlightening for newbies here who are still struggling to learn how the site works.
