2 Lines worth $2000 ? Stop the whales club!

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Steemit has a lot of high quality content which people have spent hours writing and proofreading which are worth big bucks $$$. This user @murphyslaw has written 2 lines and gotten $2000

https://steemit.com/skepticism/@murphyslaw/hello

1 Word Title and 2 lines which is worth nearly $2000 ( Going to go sleeep and when I wake up tomorrow I will see it )

How is this possible ? Something must be really fishy here as 2 Lines cannot be worth that much in my opinion I'm very sceptical about this and how he made it there.

Whales Club ?

I'm thinking that the whales probably have created a club for themselves which use new accounts to get up on the first pages of Steemit which is something that can ruin the reputation of Steemit as it could easily be exploited by stuff like this.

How is Steemit combating this ?

Well lets say 10 Whales upvote a newcommer, that will get a lot of weight and will be put on first page of Steemit which is not fair for everyone else who is creating high quality content and gets unnoticed like a drop of water in the sea.  For example like this post. I bet not even 10 people will Upvote this because nobody will see it as the whales truly overtake the whole market.

There should be some sort of software that can detect exploits like this. I've heard that people have also made multiple accounts using photos from online and creating introductions for them. And they get all the credit for something that shouldn't really be allowed to be done.

Sort:

It's apparently all in who you know sweety. There's whales, then the watcher, and don't forget to kiss the ass of the fiancee of the watcher, and i'm sure there's more lol but its been only 2 weeks. Oh and don't forget to post a pic of yourself in a bikini in the tub drinking steem! lol If you look into some people's accounts they have loads of steem and they sometimes post only copy and paste sometimes several in only one minute? eh Blessed Be Im going to have some cake vodka coffee!

Yes this is so true. I wish someone will take care off those stuff.

You made a point, as for me I don't care how they getting, but this steemit and how is set up is unbalanced. The rich get rich and we get left behind it's the name of the game, and I don' t think I would be staying for longer if that's the way things are going to be. They should change the rules for every ex amount of SP you have can only vote for those on the bottom like me. Lol☺️

You do have a point, whales have too much power, just sitting around generate obscene interest...

Its a valid point, steem has proved its self over and over again to come up with effective solutions in timely manners. Thanks for bringing this issue up ^

Rather than just upvoting, the whales should be distributing their steem (not all of it, but a portion) to content creators to allow for more people with voting power. Right now the rewarding power is far far far too centralized to just a handful of users. This results in only a few types of posts getting valued.

It is something the whales need to consider highly, fair allotment of post reward value is very very critical to the success of the platform.

Well I've seen them doing that, upvoting very early newcomers with good posts and potential but there are also a lot of greedy whales in this ocean...

This is true. 5% Of Steem's user probably own more than 95% of Steem Power. Which works like the real world today.

Well good point but has been pointed out 63 times already and there's nothing u gonna change on that.

Whales may or may not have a reason to vote something up or not and I don't see how this is our business.

It's the business of anyone who wants this platform to succeed.

How does it make the platform more successfull if the whales vote any worthless bullshit up, just to share their steampower even ?

Well as it stands they are only voting up worthless bullshit even now. They should be spreading steem power to posters who deserve it.

Well I will be pointing it out again. No need to be rude if something was already written. Many posts here are copied and nobody cares.

This is our business because it is some sort of exploiting the market of Steemit. The rich getting richer while poor getting poorer.

I bet not even 10 people will Upvote this because nobody will see it as the whales truly overtake the whole market.

29 upvotes so far in less than half an hour. So what happens when you've lost the bet? ;)

The post has $1900 and 159 votes right now - are there 159 whales?

Is there anywhere we can see the breakdown of $ by voters? That would indicate who's been "whaled" and who has just (in this case) either hit the lottery, or is already friends with a lot of people on here...

I am also surprised it! but I think it's real ! , @overloaded

I am not that surprised as things like these should be avoided.

We need an antitrust law

I wrote this yesterday: You tell people that there's an invisible man in the sky and everyone will believe you. You tell them that you will 1000$ in 1h and everyone will upvote you to see if is true. That is the true skeptic spirit
https://steemit.com/skepticism/@kirtash85/hello
have last 9 hours and I only have had 4 votes. The people is less skeptical of what I thought. Ahh, is true... I am not part of the club of the whales LOL 0$

Nothing personal @kirtash85 but if your english is that bad please don't post in English. Post in your native language and perhaps use a tag that means something relevant in your native language. You will find there are whales and others who speak nearly every language. But creating compelling content starts with first knowing the language you are trying to speak.

No offense I'm sure my skills in your native language would be far worse. But the point I'm trying to make is that you need to find people who understand you if you wish to be understood, understand?

Whether this platform has the perfect mechanisms or approach is irrelevant. The Pandora’s box has been opened. Writers can make a living outside of the centralised paradigm. No need for agents, publishers, google adsense.. etc. You just need a login, a laptop and an internet connection. The trick is understanding that Steemit will not be the only show in town. Where Steemit falls short, others will step in. Step in to compete for one thing... the thoughts, feelings and ideas of you and me. We are the King makers!
