I agree 100% with you. I asked some weeks ago for an easy way to be able to sell my thing using Steem - an official app, I mean. Sharing a currency and making it expendable is the best way to make it stronger, as far as I know. Many apps in the App Center are also very good projects, but need to be developed and updated.
My proposal in the first place is to let Steemit users become investors in the community development and in Steem, not only buying the currency but also funding projects to make Steem and Steemit stronger. I thought this before seeing the page to propose/vote projects that Dash has (http://dashvotetracker.com/). AmandaBJohnson has one of the funded project, for example.
