Platform Education On Self-Upvote

in #steemiteducation5 years ago (edited)

This is a topic that is not new to us. It is a topic that was heavily discussed on steem platform and some even become the target for downvoting due to excessive self-upvote of spammed posts.

I had been hosting Quality Comment Game on Weku and Whaleshares to encourage quality comments on both platforms.

I did carry out one game that I asked about the opinions for self-upvote.

My Stand

I agree that there is nothing wrong to upvote our own posts if it is really wrong, this function of self-upvote should have been totally removed.

When one feels that he has put in good effort to create a good content, he can encourage himself by giving himself an upvote.

Before others do support, we should at least believe in ourselves.

I am against those who post numerous posts without much content within a day and upvote to just milk the benefits. The priority is really just to earn even if there is no quality.

We should upvote for others as much as we can so that we support quality articles rather than create a community just to support the inner circle.

Self-Upvote Of Our Own Comments

I do agree with most members that self-upvote of our own comments should be avoided.

It is hard to accept it when one upvotes a post of others at 10% but self-upvote his own comment with 100%.

It was a problem at whaleshares when a curation team called v12 that upvoted posts with v12 tag but the comments from v12, that were posted on those articles it upvoted, had numerous upvote leading to greater value than the articles it had upvoted.

As far as possible, we should avoid upvoting our own comments but upvote the comments of others especially as appreciation and encouragement.

When we do make a comment on a post, I believe the authors or readers who agree with the comment are the ones who should upvote and not excessively upvoting our own comments even if it is just replying the word ‘ok’.

In Conclusion

It is really not wrong to self-upvote our own posts but it is really not right to make lots of spammed posts and upvote excessively.

Self-upvote of comments is generally not encouraged and supported by most platforms.

Comments should be upvoted by others as support and approval of a certain statement that we have stated and it speaks to them.
