Fun Facts:

  • There are over 40 species of dolphins!

  • Male dolphins are larger than the females.

  • Killer whales, or orcas, are a species of dolphin.

  • Some dolphins can swim up to 55.5 km/h (34.5 mph).

  • Dolphins have a layer of fat, or blubber, to keep warm.

  • The most popular dolphin kept in captivity is the bottlenose dolphin.

Killer whales are actually a dolphin species? Now that’s interesting!

When most people think of dolphins I'm sure they think of the bottlenose dolphin more than any other! I didn't know that there was 40 different species...that was interesting to learn!
