The Steemit Name Challenge - @bachuslib

I've been nominated by @suesa for the name challenge. What an honor to be there beside those great names you picked.
I won't follow exact rules as in original name challenge by @taskmaster4450. Instead, I'm doing @suesa fork of a challenge. That is I won't reveal my real name.

Here are the original rules:

  • Tell us in a post how you chose the current Steemit username you have. The story behind it.
  • Tell us your real name!
  • If you could change your current username, which name would you choose and why? If you have a possible usernames list, mention it!
  • Use the tag #steemitnamechallenge so that the creator of the challenge can track all the posts and check them out
  • Nominate 5 people for this challenge

At first, I wanted to pick up bacchus, which was already taken, same as bachus. So I ended up with bachuslib. It is made up of two words that might sound different but have more in common than you would think.

Bachus refers to Bacchus the Roman god of wine as most of you probably recognize. The second part lib refers to Liber also Roman god of freedom and wine. Apparently, freedom and wine go well together according to Romans.

Freedom part points to the decentralized network with no authority to delete a post from a blockchain. But beware of wine. If you misbehave your actions will be recorded on the blockchain, like in a friend's minds. Even if you are flagged and your post gets hidden, it can still be found.

There comes an avatar. Owls are associated with wisdom in western cultures. This goes back to the Greek goddess of wisdom, Athena who had an owl as a symbol. I have it there to watch over me to hopefully do the right thing. However, if something bad happens, according to the Roman author, Pliny the Elder, owl's eggs were used to cure the hangover.

I was very early on registering in gmail. At that time it worked only on invite system. Yes, someone had to invite you :) Anyway, I got the gmail name in form of name.surname. My real name is fairly common. In fact so common that I get some weird emails sometimes. Like one time I received email summoning me to a court. Not sure what was the dispute about but I don't even live in the US. Not long ago I got a mail from my stay in a hotel in the UK. Yes, I was never there, yet I knew what I ate, how long I stayed and what were my expenses.

Even if my name is common, I'm not ready to put it on a blockchain. Some already know my real first name but so far only one person knows my full name.

If I'd have to choose again I would probably pick something shorter. Those are easier to remember and more noticeable.

I nominate @dexterdev, @atopy, @scienceangel, @mathowl, @liberviarum

@liberviarum is my new mentee who found me last night. I wonder what his name stands for, liber-via-rum. I'm sure Roman gods would be delighted over that name.

Yes. You've done it with such ease that you haven't even noticed :)

Ohhhhh ty for the nomination. :)

Thanks for the nomination! Didn't actually think I'll be nominated, but I accept the challenge ;)

Ow. Sorry for the late comment, I was on mobile while Gina notified me and life hit me with things after that.

Thank you for the nomination. Would create a small post about this on a slow day. I've got the feeling that you "lib" is "liber" which is a correct guess, although I'm not deriving it from the name of Roman's god. :D

done :P Thank you for nominating me
