As I continue my journey to catch them all become the very best (like no one ever was), I would like to talk to you about something that almost everyone else has been talking about: Steem Monsters as a door for 'outsiders' to join steem(it).
Last week I was playing some Steem Monsters waiting for my weekly Dungeons and Dragons session to start, trying to complete my daily quest, when some of my friends asked me what I was playing. Introducing it as a mix between Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering, they were intrigued. Most of them are Hearthstone players and are familiar with cardgames, and they seemed genuinely interested in the game!
Because I pulled a pretty nice card, I told them that if they wanted to get into the game I could buy them a starterset once the card sold. However, soon I encountered a problem: seeing as how they’re new to steem, they don’t have an account yet. I noticed that you could get a new steem account when you buy the starterset, but then I was posed with the question of how to actually pay for it. I asked the question in the tech-support channel in the Steem Monsters Discord server, and soon got a message from the amazing @yabapmatt answering my question: they are currently working on a gift-card system which will enable inviting others to play with you, where you buy them a starterpack and account! He also gave me promo codes for two of my friends to start playing with me immediately!
Hearing this, a bunch of other friends immediately got interested, so once the gift cards will launch I will have a bunch of Christmas gifts ready! So I better pull some good cards soon to buy more gift cards lol.
Which brings me to one of the ways I just got a few booster packs: End of season 2!
After doing my quest, I noticed that I was relatively high in silver 2, and decided to make a last push to silver 1 for that extra booster pack, and of course the higher seeding at the start of season 3. Using a mix of fire and water splinters I managed to make my way to Silver 1! Yay!
This morning I noticed the reset, and collected my packs. I have yet to open them, because tonight is Dungeons and Dragons so I will open the pack with all my friends there, including the two new players! Lets mention them by the way, @hennis and @jadestriker. As I said, they’re completely new to the Steem world. I delegated some of my SP so they can play, and send them some cards and a booster pack, and they managed to complete their daily quest, and got Bronze 3 and Bronze 1 (I believe) respectively!
The rank reset was very kind, starting at 1000 when I knew I could climb (because I did so the night before). Cheesing with the death splinter (because of the melee rules currently active) I am as of this moment on a 25 winstreak, residing in gold 3, and not looking to stop this climb!
To give my friends a small boost, I'm setting them as beneficiaries for this post so they can buy some more cards if they want. I'm hoping this will open them to the world of Steem and will get at least two more steemians, before the gift cards launch and I can get even more friends to join!
