I agree regarding Google and their history of datamining and overreach.

But at the same time, if what we are trying to accomplish is directing greater traffic to our blogs, then it makes sense to make it easier for Google's algorithms to locate our posts by providing them with the URLs.

I'm planning on doing this using a Gmail account I use for no other purpose.

Bottom line: they're already online, so Google already has access, not only to the URLs, but to everything in each post.

So let's use that knowledge for our own purposes for once.
