Newbie! Train Your Skill With 'Thank You' Project! (Bilingual)

in #steempress6 years ago

If you are a graphic designer, you must have experienced periods where your designs are paid low, rejected, or even paid for with 'thank you'. But if we look back to that period, then the 'thank you project' that is honing our knowledge and skills so we can be like this, as professional graphic designer. Imagine, if none of these projects maybe we will be less learning, will lack experience in this field.
Sontak "mbah google" menjadi acuan, disitulah saya pertama kali mengenal CorelDraw.
I remember the first time I worked on the 'thank you project' from my lecturer. At that time I was blind to graphic design, I just know only the basic of Photoshop. At that time I was asked to design the brochure design, and did not know at all what application to make it. Suddenly "mr google" became my reference to search tutorials and how to make a template, that's where I first got to know CorelDraw.

It was December 2011, the internet at that time has not been so fast and stable, there is no wifi with high speed. I've been here looking for people who have CorelDraw, whether it's a few dozen people I asked, but the search was worth it, I got the software from a friend. Funny, he also did not know what is CorelDraw, he got this software from the computer store that installed his windows. At that time I am very newbs, do not know where to start because the deadline has been determined. I remember that time was CorelDraw X4 that I use, so I started by opening Pinterest and looking for an interesting brochure layout type.

With YouTube, I slowly understand how the concept of Corel's work, what is vector and pixel, what is lineart, how to create templates, and so on. This hard work is paid when the brochure is finished in time and in the form of JPG. But what happened? There was a very drastic color difference! Why the color is changed? Why is it not stay like I have designed in Corel?
I learned more, that the exported color has several type, RGB (Red Green Blue) and CMYK (Cyan Magenta Yellow and Black). Further, I learned that RGB is used more for electronics media and web, whereas if we the printing machine user, CMYK is more effective.

Dan yang paling menjadi pengalaman lagi, pekerjaan selesai dibayarkan 'thank you'. Haha, inilah awal pembelajaran desain grafis.
And the most valuable experienced that I got more, is when the work was paid with only 'thank you'. Haha, this is the new beginning of my graphic design journey. From zero to zero-zero-zero-zero (there is much zero because now in the presents, we got paid expensive, hihi)

Then, if you're a beginner graphic designer that new to this field, don't be shy to be "yes man", just run the project, paid or not is not your intention now, but your progress and the final outcome. If it deserves to be paid hard, then they'll realize your skill is more than a 'thank you'.
