How many times has it happened where you've picked up some awesome piece of silver/gold and you just can't wait to show it off! You pull out your phone, snap off a pic and voila - the picture turns out looking like poo 😒 😥
Well, your not alone! Capturing the art immortalized on silver or gold can be quite challenging to say the least. This stuff is shiny and reflective so it takes a real knack mixed with trial and error for things to turn out right.
Over at Pheli Mint, we know all to well about this issue. There has been much trial and error to try and capture a lifelike image as if you were holding the piece in your hand. Countless attempts and many experiments later we have concluded that:
- natural light is best
- trial and error for best angle of placment
- trial and error for best camera angle
...its that simple 😁
With the release of our 2016 & 2017 Temptation of the Succubus rounds, we really had a challenging time trying to capture the beauty of this awesome piece....until now! Below are some examples of the greatness that ensued.

Oh and we also use this thing sometimes, it's called a Foldio Studio. Its a pretty nifty set-up where you can adjust the led lights, change the background colors and folds down into nothing so its easy to store and transport

Those pics are great. That's a pretty cool foldio thing, it looks like it works!
it takes some trial and error but its a helpful piece
yea these ones are way better than the pics I take of mine good job.
trial and error is the bet advice, lighting is really important too
Cool set up! Silver can be difficult to capture — and photograph for that matter :P
yeah, its pretty nifty - @twowingedfeet picked it up for us
Oh man, that's not the half of it, I remember spinning all around in the house, with a million lamps trying to get a good shot. Or the time at my place when it was too sunny and I had to hold the umbrella up over everything. Geez.
lol so true, not to mention the fiasco with the blue background!
