G'day. Today I got the latest brochure of new releases in the mail from the Perth Mint.
When I saw the cover it blew me away - the most unusual piece I've ever seen.
(I'm saving that for the next post that will follow this shortly, so suffer in suspense)
The other new release that caught my eye was the 1KG Silver Coin - A New Release of the "Year of the Dog" Lunar Series with unique feature.
The eye of the Adult Dog has been set with a Blue Sapphire - Very Spectacular.
In the usual Perth Mint high standards, it comes in great custom packaging.
Here are all the details directly from the Perth Mint marketing material:
Product Information.
Featuring a spectacular blue sapphire this 1 kilo silver gemstone edition is a limited offering from the Australian Lunar Silver Coin Series II and features the Year of the Dog design.
99.99% Pure Silver

Sparkling Blue Sapphire
The reverse of the coin depicts a coloured German shepherd dog and pup lying in grass with Chinese peony flowers in the background. The dog has a blue sapphire set into its eye. The Chinese character for ‘dog’ and the inscription ‘Year of the Dog’ also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The Sparkling Blue Sapphire is cool. The extremely rare Maximum Mintage: 500 is cool. Perth Mint .9999 Silver Kilo is cool. But the baby German Shepard Puppy is the coolest.
The only thing that's not cool about it is the price - I can't afford it.....bugger!
Very cool with the sapphire! i would prefer it unpainted tho i think! i just posted a giveaway for some old british silver coins if your up for it :)
Mate, I only got 5 votes in that comp, so I've voted for you - It looks like you're winning with 33 so far - good luck!
