An Update (16/03/24)

Well, things didn't go exactly as planned since I was last here, but on the plus side, I have started setting stuff up on my new laptop, which at some point will be used for content creation!

The specs of it are:

  • Model: Asus Vivobook 16X (2023)
  • Name: Taranis
  • CPU: Intel i7-
  • RAM: 16GB DDR5-4800 (8GB + 8GB / plan to upgrade to 64GB 5600)
  • GPU: NVidia GeForce RTX 4070 8GB
  • Storage 1: 1TB NVMe SSD (plan to upgrade to 2TB or 4TB)
  • Storage 2: Potential 2.5in drive bay (plan to upgrade to 4TB+)
  • Storage 3: External HDD (not purchased yet, probably getting 12TB)

I also have another laptop that I did somewhat recently buy before this one, but that is now becoming my development laptop/secondary gaming laptop, as I realised that I need something with enough power to play some games reasonably well, especially if I need to do some recording as I play.

Its specs are:

  • Model: Asus ROG STRIX (2022)
  • Name: Latobius
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 6800H
  • RAM: 16GB DDR5-4800 (8GB + 8GB / Plan to upgrade to 32GB 5600 minimum)
  • GPU: NVidia GeForce RTX 3060 6GB
  • Storage 1: 1TB NVMe SSD (plan to upgrade to 2TB+)
  • Storage 2: Empty NVMe slot (plan to upgrade to 4TB+)
  • Storage 3: External HDD (4TB / May be upgraded, taken over from Acer Aspire 3)

Lastly, my Acer Aspire 3, which has served me quite well, is going to be sold off once wiped, because I don't need a tertiary laptop! It did help me to get over my past issues with Acer laptops though at least!

Its specs are:

  • Model: Acer Aspire 3 (A315-58 / 202?)
  • Name: None given
  • CPU: Intel i5-1135G7
  • RAM: 36GB DDR4-3200 (4GB soldiered + 32GB stick)
  • GPU: Intel iRIS Xe
  • Storage 1: 1TB NVMe SSD
  • Storage 2: Empty 2.5in drive bay (needs ribbon cable)
  • Storage 3: 4TB External HDD (moved to ROG STRIX)

Taranis and Latobius each also have a portable screen assigned to them, so I'm able to make use of a dual screen setup, as at this point I can't do without a dual screen setup! I still have plans to set up Raiden (my next planned PC build, maxed out 4th Gen Intel board), but with its specs, it's not going to be as powerful as either laptop, so my plans right now are to start recording videos and streaming at 1080p/60 FPS like I initially planned, to see how file sizes are with that, as I want to also export to Odysee, but once I get Thor (proper upgrade) up and running, I can move to 1440p/60+ FPS, but right now, I think having 1080p/60 is a pretty significant upgrade, for both recording gameplay and streaming! Additionally, I finally got away from my old storage unit, as the monthly bill increased from £251 to £315!

Not only that, but they dropped the opening hours for the facility (not the office) from 22:00 hours to 20:00 hours; so not only were they charging more, you were also getting less! The next order of business will be to organise my new storage unit with racking, so I'm able to downsize my first unit at the new place, as well as building an inventory system for the second one, as it's got a bunch of racking, so I can keep stuff stored and organised there, making best use of the space! I've also been trying to upgrade my content creation setup over the past while, which I may have already mentioned, but I have been getting some more stuff over time, and I think I should be at the point where I can soon set stuff up properly!

That said however, I might actually wait till June to start publishing Let's Plays, as I still have a bunch of stuff I need to sort out, especially as I've still not had the energy and focus to get things done at a pace I'd like! Still, at least I am still making some progress, especially as I don't need to think about installing OBS now, just setting it up and keeping it up to date. Of course, given the higher spec hardware I have, I'm going to have to make a few adjustments down to record at my currently chosen resolution. another reason why I'm keeping it at 1080p/60 is ultimately for consistency between systems, because it would be a bit weird flitting between 1080p and 1440p at random!

In any case, I'm going to stop it here for now as I need to think about a bunch of stuff, as well as put Taranis through its paces!
