What does it mean to be grounded?
On a calm Friday afternoon, a mother and her daughter Sophia (seventeen) were both in an argument. Sophia wasn't the typical school girl and didn't believe in what she was taught in school. She was held back several times in her class because her grades didn't meet the expectations of the school. She would rather skip classes just to go out and play with the animals on the farms nearby. Sophia liked the cold wet grass, smells of creatures and the scents of blossoming outdoor flowers. She wanted to feel the joy of a playful youth, the whisperings of fresh wind and loved it more than the comfort of the warm indoors. What mom Vena had planned for her wasn't really going well. Vena got feedback from teachers and they said Sophia had to finish about thirty three pages of homework in order to at least move up to a new level. At that moment Sophia was about to go out to the neighbor's farm where she and her best friend played endlessly with their animals. Sophia's mom sought to stop her from leaving the house for the sake of discipline and said: "Sophia, you are grounded."
There are various ways to discipline a child and just locking a child up at home or in a corner instead does more harm than good to a child's psych. The word 'grounded' looked at as "discipline" is 'right' when it implies not losing focus. The 'misuse' of the word grounded is when a parent has not really come face to face with what "grounded" really means. This results to most parents using it as "punishment" for their young. A child may grow up with a misunderstanding when ever the word grounded is used. Most youth and even adults find it pretty hard to pay attention or to stay focused on a goal. A self infested, immoral and greedy society always acts a catalyst to instant gratification. This is how "roots" are prevented from growing deeper; meaning the less effort someone puts into their work, the less happiness and joy they reap. The more of your self and heart is put into your work, the bigger the reward in fulfillment, joy and in happiness.
The growth of a less focused population also finds it's way into the spiritual community. The so called "New Age" philosophy is twofold—dualistic. There are quite some inconsistencies with new age ideas and concepts. A truly awakened/conscious person will quickly recognize people who "tiptoe" calmly and light-fully seek to suppress the 'sacred masculine' principle. With various attractive concepts that seem so good; wrapped in virtue yet at it's core, when you take a sniff...it smells like manure.
It is in many ways another religion.
One example that reigns supreme with those who subscribe to new age beliefs is "Never get angry a.k.a don't pay attention." This is also an example of how such ideas/concepts mislead people. Though 'non-righteous' and 'un-channeled' anger is counterproductive to both the individual development and collective efforts to bring about positive change; righteous indignation when channeled productively, can be a huge motivator that ushers in great 'positive change' in the world. It is also my own opinion that anytime a guru or so called spiritual teacher calls for just "meditation and virtue talk" , either they've forgotten about balance for second or they know very well they suppress the fire of the sacred masculine—Action! If someone is not outraged by the killings, slavery and misinformation, they are not paying attention at or perhaps lost the ability to feel anger...which in that case is a "broken" person who doesn't point out injustice against his/her fellow Hu.mans. There are other countless concepts out there that unfortunately men and women who seek to break away from "established" religion fall right back into another religion. In the new age philosophy all is flowery, everyone they interact with is happy and full of light (forgetting there are still many with dark souls). They play, dance to flutes and drums and meditate with crystals. All it takes is to accept reality "as it is" because "all is ok." There is no need to change the world, only change yourself...don't rebel, don't bother (more like any given religion). Praise master Jesus, he will save you, 'don't bother' changing the world... "wait" for his return, don't take self responsibility for your actions. Accept accept accept and create create create and talk talk talk! Are these individuals balanced? Do they stand firm like a tree who's roots go deep? Are these people grounded? To my knowledge we have two sides of the brain; the left hemisphere responsible for 'logical', practical and critical thinking—Sacred masculine. The right hemisphere of the brain; a more receptive side responsible for creativity and emotions—Sacred feminine. Within a being of light, the 'sacred male' and the 'sacred female' are united in an alchemical marriage.
To be grounded is to not fool yourself. True awakening is not to be blown away by persuasive winds (words). A person with "new age" beliefs stands with roots just on the surface of things, thus every wind (information/concepts etc; true or untrue) will quickly be blown off their feet. This is the result of an imbalance. Such imbalance in ones mind is caused by ungroundedness. This state of being without basis is the lack of ones roots growing deep into the core of the earth.
Once again we all have a choice in this lifetime. Your mind is your mind and yours only to use. Feel! Think! Act! Within you is the trinity...put it to use, don't let it remain dormant. The divine spark within you is the blood in your 'heart' that goes way beyond the heavens. In the skies blow winds & storms and that which is on earth is a reflection of what's in the heavens. Deep roots keeps a tree standing firm in the midst of trials and tribulations. In order to reach the consciousness of the heavens, you too need to be just as a tree with its roots deep down to the earths core. Be awakened, be in nature, be grounded!
