My brother and I had been planning an epic trip to Montreal since late January. This is the first time just the two of us have spent more than a handful of hours together by ourselves since we were teens, more than thirty years ago.
The amazing city, as usual, didn't disappoint. During the four days we were in Montreal we climbed Mount Royal, walked a total of 40.85 miles, cycled another 13.95 miles, had a lot of really good food, experienced absolutely every corner of the city, and made some wonderful memories. This was my brother's first time to Montreal (my seventh), so it was fun to show him around.
Here’s a montage of some of the things we experienced during our weekend.
My Canadian Magic Carpet Ride
Let me preface this by saying that experience has shown when you get two Waltons within close proximity of each other anything can happen. Most of the time this is good but sometimes things can, shall we say, get interesting.
This was certainly the case this past weekend. Recreational cannabis is legal and prevalent in Canada, the smell of it is almost everywhere in Montreal.
On our second day of the trip my brother and I decided to stop into one of the many dispensaries scattered around the city before climbing Mount Royal. After all, what would be the harm?
I bought some sativa oil to try. The bottle came with a dispenser that looked like an eye dropper. We had tickets to see the Aura Experience at the Notre Dame Basilica Friday night at 8pm. I thought I'd try a small 1mg dose of the sativa oil to "enhance" experience of the light show a bit.
The label on the bottle was a little confusing and unclear. I put what I thought was 1mg in the eye dropper and took it about 6pm. We ate dinner then decided to make our way to the front of the church to get ready for the show.
I started feeling the effects of the sativa on the walk to the light show and it seemed with each step the high grew more intense. By the time we walked the seven blocks to the church I started experiencing mild hallucinations and had a hard time keeping my eyes open. My vision grew wavy, almost as though I was underwater. My heart was beating like a drum and my mouth was so dry I wanted to stick my head in the St. Lawrence River.
I just kept getting higher and higher and, ultimately, we decided to abort the plans that night and head back to the Airbnb. By the grace of God I made it. That seven block walk back was the longest of my life. We spend the rest of the night watching shows on Netflix.
After closer inspection, we discovered I actually took 28.5mg of the oil instead of 1mg. That's around 3x more than I've ever taken in my life. That is one magic carpet ride I never wish to go on again. Moral of the story, Canadian cannabis packs a serious wallop, especially when you don't read the label properly.
Thankfully there are no real health risks for taking large doses of this but I was super relaxed for the next thirty or so hours. All and all my brother and I had an amazing trip but no more Canadian cannabis oil for moi. Holy Jesus.
I'll end on this note. I think it's mighty appropriate.

Poetry should move us, it should change us, it should glitch our brains, shift our moods to another frequency. Poetry should evoke feelings of melancholy, whimsy, it should remind us what it feels like to be in love, or cause us to think about something in a completely different way. I view poetry, and all art really, as a temporary and fragile bridge between our world and a more pure and refined one. This is a world we could bring into creation if enough of us believed in it. This book is ephemera, destined to end up forgotten, lingering on some dusty shelf or tucked away in a dark attic. Yet the words, they will live on in memory. I hope these words become a part of you, bubble up into your memory when you least expect them to and make you feel a little more alive.

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.
These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you. Upgrade your life experience today for only $15.99 on Amazon.com.
Oh my goodness! I can only imagine what that would be like. I actually had a slightly similar experience in Vegas last time I was there, but nothing as intense as that! I know what you mean about getting to Walton's together though. My wife grew up with a couple of brothers with the same last name. They both came to my brother in laws wedding and they were a hoot! Oddly enough, they are both morticians, which you wouldn't expect... It looks like you had an awesome time! Some of the pictures didn't come through here on Hive, but I saw many of them on Facebook!
It was truly horrific! Lol. How much did you take in Vegas?
What a small world! We're probably related in some way, most Waltons in America are descendants of four brothers that came over from England in the 1600's.
The pictures not showing up might be a Hive glitch. I loaded them to IMGUR like I usually do and they show in the preview (before I publish) on Hive but not in the actual post. This has happened the past few times I've posted and the photos eventually show up. It's very strange!
Ah, I got ya. That is cool about your family history. My sister has done a bunch of stuff with our lineage, but I haven't really looked into it. I guess you should be glad it wasn't indica that you took! I just took one hit, but the stuff these days is much stronger than what I used to do. My wife said I was green.
What site do you use to upload your photos?
I just upload mine directly to Hive.
Thanks, I tried that in PeakD and will do it that way from now on. It's so much easier. Now the YouTube videos are working though! Lol.
:) It's hit or miss sometimes, but it usually works out for me. The only thing I don't know is how permanent it is. I think if you dig back into some of my really old posts they may have purged the images from them just to save space. I could be wrong though.
It's very interesting to learn more about your heritage. It's added a lot more depth to our lives. I would have been sound asleep if it was indica, I probably wouldn't have made it back. Oh no! The new stuff is about 20x stronger than when we were teens. I don't use it too often but when I do it's usually gummies. It's far easier to predict how they'll affect you.
I actually don't do it that often either. Which is funny now that it is legal here.
#hive #posh
Yikes! That definitely wasn't how the evening plans were supposed to go! Glad you had your brother along to look out for your well being. Made me think of something along the line of "measure twice, cut once." Can we blame the miscalculation on metric system conversions? @ericvancewalton😅😂
@tipu curate
I made a vow to myself to never take the oil again, especially while traveling. Lol. It was beyond intense. Luckily, we made it back to the basilica so I could show my brother the interior of the church (the pics are in the video) but we still missed the light show.
Seeing a light show in the Basilica, even better if correctly buzzed, would have been an forgettable experience. Maybe next time! Regardless, great bonding time with your brother and stories to tell😉
I agree! Luckily we made it to the Basilica a few days later so he got to experience it (sans the light show).
Got to hand it to the Canadians for coming up with the cool idea of combining a night time laser light show in a church scenario!✨🔭🌌
Upvoted 👌 (Mana: 65/75) Liquid rewards.
That's really a much of an overdose and I wonder how your system would have been when you took them.
It's definitely a large dose.
Is it legal to be sold there? Has it something drug effect?
Marijuana is legal in Canada and much of the US now. The effects are usually just mild if you take the right dose but I mistakenly took too much.
Were you laughing for no reason? 😁
A few times!
As a Canadian, if I was following protocol, I would probably say, "Sorry." (google it)
Unfortunately this time all I can do is LOL.
Yes. It's strong here.
I looked it up and wasn't aware "sorry" was a thing there!
Oh man, I've developed a new respect for Canadian cannabis. it's a whole different ballgame up there. Lol.
Yeah. Sorry you had to find out the hard way.
Thankfully there was no harm done and we got a great story out of it!
I have quite a few of those stories.
Lay one on me! Lol.
One time I went to use nature's toilet and got lost in the woods. Spent what felt like couple hours in a panic, building a shelter. It got worse when I heard what sounded like animals approaching me. Friend pulls a branch aside, looks at me, says, "Dude? What are you doing? We thought you went home."
Turns out I wasn't lost. Just needed to walk another twenty feet.
Probably worth mentioning I was smoking, drinking, and didn't know I had been given edibles. Found out the hard way.
Haha! Now that makes for an interesting story.
I guess it's a good thing that not both of you decided to go for this.
At least your brother could walk you guys back to the AirBNB.
Awesome to hear about your one-on-one bro time :<)
That's what we said, at least we have a good story to tell. Lol.
I'm thankful he was there to help me back. If he wasn't it may've ended very differently.
Thanks, we had a really good time (sans the magic carpet ride)!
:<)
You and your brother really had a good time together from what you shared the only scene uncomfortable was the overdose you took which I believe is harmful
We certainly did. It definitely felt harmful at the time but I made a full recovery.
Yeah, but what did you do with your hands man. Like what are they even for?
Haha. I was too focused on how dry my mouth was to even be concerned with my hands. Lol.
Yeah, the stuff just makes me a paranoid train wreck. That was long ago before weed became a science experiment that it is today. I couldn't even imagine.
I could feel the paranoia creeping up, for sure. That's one reason I wanted to get out of the crowd. This new stuff is unbelievably strong compared to what we had as teens in the 1980's.
I love the idea that it makes you "chill out". If by "chill" you mean the verge of an anxiety driven cardiac catastrophe with severe neuroticism seeping into my soul, sure bro, I'm chill. If I ever build a time-machine remind me to take this back to the hippy era and see what they think. I suspect no "Summer of Love."
Lol, I very much agree. I will be keeping it under 5mg from here on out and, definitely, no more oil. The "Summer of Love" would have undoubtedly have been the "Summer of Paranoia and Isolation".
Hahahahaha. I can imagine that trip, Eric! Fortunately you were with your brother and he was able to join you. Although I have never read that someone can die from a marijuana overdose, you could have been disoriented or maybe passed out. It was a wise decision to go back to the hotel. The food looks delicious and the whole city beautiful and clean. Your brother writes in Hive? It would be interesting to know his version of that overdose of yours! hahaha. Anecdotes to remember. Good to know that you are "cool". Hugs
Whew, it was intense! I absolutely love Montreal. It's such a different atmosphere than it is here in America, almost like an alternate universe...a kinder and happier one. Thanks, Nancy! Curt and I have managed to stay close despite the miles between us. We'll probably end up doing a trip like this once a year from here on out if we can. He wrote on Steemit for a little while but stopped years ago. Have a wonderful week! : )
It's really a very pleasant experience to be able to enjoy a vacation with your only sister. Montreal is truly a beautiful city and is perfect for a vacation destination. Thank you for nice video. It's just that I was a bit surprised to hear that marijuana is being sold legal there. Have a nice day Eric
Thanks Eliana! What had a really good time. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Cannabis is legal in a majority of North America now. In the US it depends on what state you live in. Have a wonderful week!
Hehehehehehe sorry about that
Thanks. As they say, it builds character. : )
You are most welcome
I see that a lot of people watching Netflix. I tried the Netflix free trial from 2017.08.02 to 2017.09.01. The price after that would have been €11.99 EUR per month. I cancelled that on the same day (on 2017.08.02).
I watched a lot of movies and TV series in that time (nowadays I watch much less). I could easily download the movie/episodes with torrent. And there are much more movies and TV series on torrent than on Netflix.
Of course, depending on your preferences, Netflix can be more convenient than the torrent.
But either way, enjoy the movies and the TV series.
Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.
We take advantage of those free trials too for different channels from time to time. I watch YouTube more than anything though. All the best to you my friend! I hope your week is going well over there.
I also watch a lot of YouTube videos. Both English and Hungarian too. There are many good YouTubers, and YouTube videos. Both with entertaining and with educational videos too. Sometimes both at the same time. And I watch music videos too. Sometimes even full movies, and TV series too.
YouTube is the best! It's saved me many times in DIY situations. I've even got my mom watching it.
Bonus! Two trips for the price of one hahaa. That is pretty funny after the fact but can be scary at the time. I use the rso oil in the evening so I can stay asleep at night. No trouble falling asleep, just staying there lol. Occasionally I take too much and spend a couple of really weird hours until bedtime. Good thing your brother was there to provide moral support and get you back to the hotel.
All said and done, it looks like you both had a great time, ate some good food and spent some fantastic brotherly time together. A successful trip in my book!
Exactly! The bonus trip wasn't all that enjoyable though. Lol. We did have a wonderful time. The rental bikes were probably our favorite part of the trip. I can't believe how much more of the city we ended up seeing thanks to those.
Rental bikes are an exceptional way to see the city. Easier on the wallet then bus or taxi and like you say...you actuallysee more of the city as opposed to rushing by so fast that your brain has no time to register what you eyes behold lol.
🤣🤣🤣
Oh shit that is a trip and a half! Reminds me of the time I popped a 40 miligram gummy into a buddy’s face and went to an mma fight at a casino. He had to pull the chute and ended up barfing his prime rib buffet all over his lawn when he got home.
Looks like an awesome trip anyhow and it was the Canada 🇨🇦 that got my attention eh?
Swing by Toronto sometime soon!
I got a bonus trip! Oh no, I bet 40mgs were beyond intense. It ended up being a minor hiccup in a very memorable trip. I'd love to see Toronto. I've only passed through not he way to Montreal. Someday soon I'll have to check it out.
Mount Royal is situated at very high altitudes or not? Can we trek in it among nature forests?
There's forest leading up to it. Wikipedia says it's well below 1000ft but seems much taller than that.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Royal
Ok. So there would be no breathing problems there.
None at all.
That's great to know. Coz here in North India, we have hills at very high altitudes and there it happens.
We can battle altitude sickness when we're in Sedona, Arizona too (and other parts of the US). It's not fun and takes preparation.
Yes we should make preparations before any such adventures or things might get worse there.
Damn, that's a big amount of oil you had and such a risky happening! I'm happy you were strong enough and made it to the Airbnb because I can't imagine what will happen if you fainted or had an unknown allergy. :/
I know! Given the circumstances there could have been a much worse outcome. I'm thankful we got back safely without incident.
Time Flies, Can you share the photo of both of you when you were teens?
I have one but photos aren't working for me on Hive now, for some reason.
I will be honest, I am over 50 and never used cannabis until about two years ago. Due to my health issues I thought I would give it a shot. Man, I was not disappointed. The relief it gives me is unbelievable. It has worked than any anti inflammatory or or pain relievers I have been prescribed. Glad you and your brother had a great time. Time with my brother is always the best too.
Thank you! I'm glad it's helped your pain. It really is powerful medicine for a lot of ailments and there are zero serious side effects. My mom has her medical card in Ohio and uses it for arthritis pain, it's been an absolute miracle for her. I'm thankful the US is finally opening their minds and legalizing it.
I am just about wondering it has been a while I saw your post. Hope everything is fine though. I sincerely wish I can spend quality time with my brother the same you are doing with yours 🥺
Thank you! Yes, I just wasn't posting because we were traveling. I hope you get to spend time with your brother. Time passes too quickly not to do that.
Sativa can be pretty intense when digested as an edible. Next time if this happens, make sure to get some CBD. CBD is the antidote to a THC overdose.
Thanks for that tip, that is amazing to know! There was a very small amount of CBD in this Sativa oil but apparently not enough to make any real difference.
Yeah I would try to do 20-30 mg at least if I was feeling overwhelmed. But next time go with an indica edible. I would bet you enjoy it way more, even if you ate the same MG of thc.
That is so good to know! Thanks for the advice!
When I read that I said ohh nooo!! rule with this type of thing when you are not sure, you end up exceeding it hahaha
besides that the pure doses of thc are quite difficult to calculate and you always end up in a strong trip... it's good that despite everything you didn't see an ugly experience, many people get scared and don't enjoy the trip...
The oils are so difficult to dose properly. I thought I was "being responsible" and just taking 1mg. Lol.
Thankfully I was able to keep the paranoia to a minimum, that can easily get out of hand if you don't keep it under control.
It also helps that you were in good company and they helped you have a nice time.
For sure!

Very nice, thanks! This hasn't happened to me in years. I'll have to write about cannabis more often. Lol.
Hehe, welcome back in the top @ericvancewalton. Nothing better than a tiny booster 🌿
BTW, your support for our previous proposal has been much appreciated but it expired end of 2022
May we ask you to renew your support for our new proposal (https://peakd.com/me/proposals/248)?
Your help will be really appreciated. Thank you!
Well, nothing, but now you know what happens from an overdose. I tried the same thing in my youth and had similar symptoms.
I've had this happen before when I was younger but nothing quite that intense. The Canadian strains are STRONG. Lol.
To be fair, I had a similar experience with THC gummies in Hawai'i. It turned out that one gummy was about 3 times stronger than a joint. For 3 hours, I couldn't move my arms or legs and could only crack one eye open at a time. Otherwise there would be too much light.
Unlike what SouthPark states ... don't blame Canada.
Lol, I feel less bad about my experience the more comments I read!
You couldn't move your arms or legs? Holy crap, man. Was it Indica?
I hope you were somewhere secluded. My brother was afraid he was going to have to call a taxi and try to lift me into it but thankfully I made it back under my own power.
I LOT of folks find themselves "in the weeds" with edibles. The mistake most make is not waiting long enough for them to kick in so they take more.
There was a story of a journalist in Colorado shortly after weed became legal there. She decided to try a cannabis-infused chocolate and write an article about it. She misread (or failed to read) the instructions, like me, ate the entire bar and couldn't move for over 24hrs!
I'm a pretty big fan of Canada. It's like an alternate universe compared to the US, in mostly good ways.
Yep, it was Indica. A buddy has chronic back pain - so he takes them. To be a good host, he offered me one. I was in a safe place - so I enjoyed the 3 hour buzz. But when it lifted, I knew that I would always read the label.
🐻
Lol, I've now learned that lesson too.
Ohhhh Canada indeed... and when I'm thinking that while in collage and wanted to immigrate to Canada and for some reason I didn't pursue that at the moment, even if it could have changed everything.
It's a pretty amazing and quite a diverse country.
It a really great opportunity to travel and experience places and am pretty sure Montreal will be a nice place to visit without doubt.
I couldn't see the photos too when I opened and I kept refreshing and still nothing. I had to scroll through using the preview .
By the way, you had so much fun in Montreal and I am so sorry about the excessive dosage of sativa oil that you took which almost ruin the fun for the day. I am glad you were able to at least get back to your Airbnb before it got worst and you got better too.
Amazing video by the way, love the tour.
Thank you for sharing
Thanks, I've been having issues with the site I use to upload my photos lately (Imgur). They show in preview while the post is in draft mode but not after I publish the post. I'm not 100% sure but think the issue might actually be on the Hive side of things? The thumbnail photo is showing up on iOS Safari but not on my laptop. So weird.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Thanks for your comment.
After a long time both of you brothers have found time to spend time with each other. All of our lives have become so busy that we don't even get time to meet our relatives in today's era, we all should do it in such a way that we meet once in a month and spend time with each other. And you are absolutely right this place is more beautiful than what it looks like in the pictures and in the video we have seen the food is also very delicious looking very good. Both the brothers are having a lot of fun.
