The Petko and Pencho Slaveikovi House Museum is located in Sofia on 138 Rakovski Street, next to the house of Peyo Yavorov. However, they did not visit each other, if only because the father and son of Slaveikovi never lived in the apartment in which the museum is located. The fact is that this is the apartment of their daughter and sister. The writers of Slaveikovi themselves lived on Kafene Bashi Square, which is now called Slaveikovi Square and where the book market is located. These are their sculptures sitting there on a bench.
Petko Rachov Slaveykov is famous not only for his literary works, but also for being the first Bulgarian minister to be in this post twice and voluntarily resigned. And his portrait is depicted on a Bulgarian banknote of 50 leva.
Pencho Petkov Slaveykov is the eighth son of a minister-writer and also a poet and writer. He wrote much more works than his father, although he died early due to illness. After all, his father had to take part in revolutionary activities, teach children to build schools, collect folk art - he did not have much free time, although he died at an advanced age.
This is a portrait of the famous poetess in Bulgaria Mara Belcheva, the main supporter of female lyric poetry in Bulgaria. She was the wife of the Minister of Finance of Bulgaria Hristo Belchev, and after his death, beloved Pencho Slaveykova, with whom they were engaged in translations, conducted literary evenings and generally very active social and educational work. Unfortunately, Mara died in old age in sheer poverty and obscurity.
This museum is open from 10.00 to 17.00 in the evening, and on Thursdays from 13.00, but for free.
On paid days, the entrance to the museum costs 3 levs (1.5 euros); for children, senior citizens and students perks.
All these autumn photos were taken by me personally.
