Thinking of switching streaming platforms

in #streaming4 years ago

Not that I'm that bound to Twitch in general, but I did make affiliate a couple years back which means viewers can subscribe to my account which costs $5 and it gives me 50% in revenue while the other 50% goes to Twitch (this is probably one of their most generous cuts). The other thing is that I can run ads at a click of a button but I never do because ads suck and at the same time I haven't been having that many viewers lately. It used to be decent back when I was streaming Gods Unchained and there was some hype around the game, the community was pretty big and we were doing okay with onboarding players onto Hive (steem at the time) but it suffered a blow due to eth's scaling issues and development has been slow since then.

Anyway, I created an account on Theta a week ago and have been checking out what's going on there a few days now, it seems like an okay start for a streaming platform. I haven't been able to go into too much details yet about how it works, all the benefits it gives it's streamers and viewers but I highly doubt it will be as shitty as dlive so giving it the benefit of the doubt. Another thing I think is great is that since it actually has a real decentralized cryptocurrency (theta and tfuel) and viewers and streamers instantly get introduced to it I figured it would be a good place to also get Hive some visibility. Now of course I'm not just going to go on there to just tunnelvision shill Hive but already having a description of my main social media platform, some explanation of what it is, some links to the OCD discord for future gaming communities we want to grow along side Gods Unchained (once we pick that up again) and other blockchain games and at the same time offering account creation and guidance through our Discord for anyone interested to check it out could be a good idea to stream there instead of on Twitch as the possibility of someone already familiar with Crypto wanting to find out more about our chain.

The reason I have to choose is that as an affiliate Twitch doesn't let you stream on other platforms at the same time. Crazy, right? Well considering I haven't even made it up to $100 in revenue after a couple years of affiliate (not that I've been trying that hard or been consistent either cause Hive as always been my main focus) it's not going to be a difficult decision. At the same time I don't think that Theta has any similar restrictions which would allow me to use software such as Restream to connect and stream at the same time on many different platforms for the visibility and reach such as youtube, mixer, vimm, etc.

To be able to stream on Theta you need a streamer key right now, I'm assuming that's for the early phases so I wrote a quick tweet earlier and hoping I'll get one. Anyway, just wanted to write a quick post about some plans of mine about switching streaming platforms and hopefully getting the word of Hive more out there while gaming, curating or just talking to viewers when I'm live.

I'll probably make a more in depth post about Theta at some point once I find the time to do a little more digging and how I'm planning on getting a bit more active and consistent with streaming there and on other platforms as to grow my reach. Of course being a streamer who doesn't show his face has it's disadvantages but maybe my influence on Hive can make up for that a little bit.

Have any of you checked out Theta yet, what are your first impressions?

Oh and before I forget, I also like that being able to send tfuel/theta to anyone is possible as long as they have an account - they get their own wallet instantly. Thankfully we also have some decent account creation going on now with @hiveonboard so hopefully we'll get some more streamers sharing when they go live onto Hive as well and it working as a gateway to the rest of the ecosystem of Hive that they may not know about but start off with just streaming.

I used to livestream on facebook but they started banning me for comment images and they keep extending the ban. So in september ill finally be able to livestream again and it will have been about a year. So i am looking for alternatives too.

I have theta.tv running in an open tab, is your name there the same as here?

If I have it right, they are building a decentralized cdn on a blockchain.
Running theta.tv gets you theta fuel if you have the peers and the bandwidth flow in the right direction.
Can't move theta fuel to other wallets, yet.

Edge nodes can mine theta fuel, but not available for linux, yet.
Guardian nodes build the blocks and require staking 10k theta.
https://coinswitch.co/ gets you in and out.

My username is Acidhives as I created the account with my Twitch. Thanks for the info will have to look more into it.

I guess it hasn't updated search yet, I will keep looking.

How could vimm and 3speak integrate with theta?
A decentralized cdn sounds like a pretty good idea, to me.
Especially, if I get paid to host some of it.

Looking forward to your full in-depth review of Theta. The fact that Mixer failed at rivaling twitch after literally throwing millions at it trying to get something going makes me wonder how anyone else is going to pull it off though.

Just checked out https://www.theta.tv/

Looks really good, but it would be nice to have rewards in something (not tfuel) that represented a basket of top 10 cryptocoins or a users choice of cryptocoins. Making another coin creates this extra work of needed to have an exchange or swap site that accepts the coin and the market effects on the coin price.

I think I'll start with Theta! haha earning crypto is way more fun... seems like an easy decision!

Also, you need to get DayZ!

Checking out theta ASAP. Used to love DLive back on steem before they ported.

Edit:
The UI seems captivating already but then, I'm a sucker for dark UIs.

I have been a lurker on theta for awhile. You should totally switch! I think it has a lot of potential.

There is a Streaming Plattform on HIVE , its called VIMM.TV why everyones is ignoring it ??

You get an automated post since the last Update you re able to hold your VOD over a week, if you being a premium member , then your vods are a min of 30 days available.

So why moving outside hive and use Theta which so often changed their ways?? i dont get that...

Give hive and Vimm a chance , grab it do it form it, it wasnt nicer to be a streamer on this plattform, all you need to do is to do it!

@vimm heya lads cmon get in, show you are here, this is our home....

One of the guys I listen to his podcast uses DLive but wasn’t that the group that left Steem after they got paid a bunch to be there? lol
He’s not an affiliate though so he’s able to do both twitch and DLive.

I've had a little gander around theta, I was thinking of multi streaming to theta as well as vimm, with vimm being my primary platform I promote and theta being the platform I'm trying to steal everyone from. But I'm still up in arms about multi streaming.

Don't really think I can be bothered to deal with the hassle of maintaining 2 channels atm.

I bought some THETA last year but didn't do anything with it. Then @ericwilson started on Theta.tv and invited me, so I joined to watch one of his streams. I still don't quite understand how things work there, so haven't gotten into it. I hope you'll keep us all updated as you learn.

I think I might look into Theta as well. I used to stream on dLive way back in the day before they left Steem and it was pretty fun.

Yeah it was, for some time they had the chat connected to comments and I used to have posts with close to 1k comments, lol.

If you would, please consider reaching out when you do stream, I stream a little over there and it would be cool to chat live about it. I think the protocol is going to be something that all streaming platforms can benefit from, even Vimm!

To be able to stream on Theta you need a streamer key right now, I'm assuming that's for the early phases so I wrote a quick tweet earlier and hoping I'll get one. > >Quote

I think it is easier to get them now - did you do the #streamkeyplz in the tweet?

I'm there, what is your channel?

@ericwilson - yours?

I don't stream, just run the tab to mine the fuel.
My name there is the same as here.

Oh ok, cool! I dont get a lot of viewers so I dont know how much you can mine (Honestly I'm usually on High8125's stream mining :) )

I don't think it matters which stream we are on, only who is within 1000 miles of us and if we are giving bandwidth or taking bandwidth.
I followed that fella.

I believe you need 3 peers (watching the same stream within that range) to get paid - it might be 2.

Is there a way to get TFuel out of the Theta ecosystem as a viewer?

yes actually, that's one thing that's pretty clear when you create an account, not sure how exactly but they have some stats of how much data you download when viewing a streamer and I'm assuming they use that to count how much tfuel viewers can earn, but so far I haven't received any just 1 from opening a daily "chest".

Hey there! It's incredibly simple to earn it. I wanted to check if you knew how to take it out of the Theta.tv ecosystem as a viewer.

The haven't built that yet, I'm told.

Ah ok, thank you!

Interesting. I've been thinking about a good streaming platform for Hive tutorials. I may give it a try.

It will overcome many deficiencies.

You have researched about theta very well and given a clear explanatio. But I think now theta have some deficiency..This is the right time to , I enter on theta.,what is your suggestion?

Hi acidyo. Thanks for introducing yet another platform to check on! Upvoted!

I have been streaming on Twich for a couple of months, I think it would be nice to bring Hive users into a streaming chat, just to connect on a more personal level.

Take a look for VIMM.TV its a streaming plattform on hive :)

Uh ok, thank you for your kind suggestion😊

By the way? How is your condition now? How is your health and body bro?

You should totally switch!
Regards @acidyo

Hey acid, I formatted your post just for kicks.

Check it out

Lmao what a shit format, fucking retard. Read some guides before you go out to embarrass yourself offering "freebies" that come out worse than the original. I'd rather read a wall of text than your abomination.

Some tips on what not to do:

  • Don't use elipses in titles. You can't just randomly h1 the first clause of the first sentence.
  • Don't make a list and then continue afterwards as if the list were a sentence. This only works sometimes.
  • Don't randomly start paragraphs in bold like this. It's stupid.
  • Don't make random quote blocks (>) in the middle of nowhere for no reason. This is one of the most stupid habits I've seen and it's fucking gross.

What to do instead:

  • Titles are thematic, they should be able to stand alone grammatically. Ideally, you make a new one instead of cannibalizing the first part of the paragraph, and it should describe the topic being talked about in the next few paragraphs. They are semantic separators, give them some respect.
  • Lists are made of independent items that should only rarely be tied to outer grammatical elements.
  • Use bold to highlight important elements.
  • Use quotes (>) to quote, not to highlight or create variety.

Damn dude, you're good at this. You should make a post on it.
Also:

Use bold to highlight important elements.

@acidyo, he thinks you're unimportant. Haahaa!

Damn dude, you're good at this. You should make a post on it.

I just did. Just for you, son. You'd better print it and paste it on your wall.

I just got rick-rolled back to that comment.

print it and paste it on your wall.

Yes father, this is my new Bible.

Also, fuck you too.

lmao u guys are hilarious
