Joining a larger community is something I am lacking. I should do some research and find one to join.

It seems like that is a certain right of passage that occurs when one is in the (50's). You'll find yourself relating to those equal to you and higher (for me up to those of (70) even. You'll find too that up until (50), at least for me, I was looking for those I could join, or attach myself to. But now I get those who are looking for ME! And I'm seeing organic and growing relationships developing all around. Those further down the road than you and I are actually taking a look at us to see if we have qualities they want in their communities and when we prove worthy they start upvoting us to see how we'll do, and to see if we take the initiative to move into their circles. Anyway, many blessings.
I have noticed that I got a couple upvotes from a owner of a community the last week or two which peaked my interest in joining their community.
Greetings @rentmoney. I hope you follow the thread here. @wwf gave a very thorough reply to me and corrected my insufficient comment to you. Like I said, he is a great guy and the people in Stewards of Terra Mater are down to earth people quite literally. You won't find a better group of folks on Steemit. Blessings.
Some of the "communities" are loose knit. People just voluntarily associate with one another. On the other hand there are more formal communities like @eco-train, and @informationwar and I know there are several Christian communities. I know the Buddhists follow each other closely. You get the idea. I joined in with Stewards of Tera Mater a few months ago but it is very loose knit and does not do much other than upvote each other, however I must say the organizier/leader, @wwf is a great guy and wants to do more and I suspect will. He is a homesteader and this time of year is very busy.I know the best thing to do is follow those who have similar interests and gradually you'll work your way into a group by commenting and posting things they find interesting. For a while I was in a hunting and fishing group, but that didn't last long since I no longer hunt and I do a lot of fishing but no catching! Anyway hope to see more of you. Blessings.
My view of the Stewards of Terra Mater is some what different than yours my friend. By delegating steem to new users and sharing their names on my posts, it helps those new users not only find followers for their blogs, but they can use the steem to upvote other users and spread the influence over a much wider area, helping even more people than any one individual can do. By paying it forward, we enrich our community, specifically those who are living off grid, homesteading or doing important spiritual work like yourself. I see the Tewards of Terra Mater as being much more than just a loose knit group who don't do much other than upvote each other.
It is also an opportunity for new users to learn this complex platform from users who have experience and have done well. By sharing hints, tips and suggestions, we spread the wealth of knowledge over a wide area to help as many people as we can. By enriching those around us, we enrich the community and ourselves at the same time. We may be small, but I do know that our influence is large. Lots of people have heard of the Stewards of Terra Mater and the Virtue Circle that we also created. I hope that helps clarify the purpose and intent of the group. Peace to you.
Yes, I suppose my response to @rentmoney was rather shallow. My apologies. You have correctly defined the mission and purpose of Stewards much better. I hope that @ rentmoney reads it. In fact I'll go make a comment to him in hopes that he will read your comment.
Indeed, Stewards of Terra Mater is a fine home and community. Many blessings.
PS: A little burnt out this week. Hoping for a bounce back.
I forgive you my brother. No worries. Thank you for helping to clarify. <3 Peace to you.
I have been following. Thanks to both you and @wwf for your responses.
