I ordered an Original Prusa i3 MK3 kit!

in #tabletop6 years ago (edited)

A few weeks ago I ordered my first 3D printer which I am expecting to receive towards the end of April / early May.

The Prusa MK3 is the newest model and the company is working tirelessly to back-fill orders with over 180 staff producing 200+ printers per day. Aside from already producing amazing quality prints, some of the benefits of the new model are its quality of life features and improved reliability.
Some of these features include the printer knowing when to 'stop' when something has gone wrong, removable heat beds, faster and more silent operation.

I ordered the DIY kit so I'm looking forward to putting everything out on the table in the spare living room as well as spending a solid weekend putting it all together.

So the main reason I purchased a 3D printer was because they are now being used more and more by tabletop hobby enthusiasts to print out miniatures and terrain pieces. I want to be able to print out terrain such as marketplaces, taverns, blacksmiths, ships, towers, castles and dungeons.

There are a bunch of free schematics on Thingiverse which are open source. This is also a great social platform for designers and 3d printer enthusiasts.

There are also private companies which produce and sell high quality print schematics such as http://printablescenery.com/ which are a New Zealand based company.
Here's a couple of examples from the company facebook page:

I hope to keep everyone updated once I've built my printer and I've started to produce and paint some terrain for my tables.

There are just so many possibilities!

Going to do the same. Why did you get this exact printer?

It's got amazing reviews and is one of the industry leaders in tech. The kit to build it comes with full instructions and tools.

Alot of other printers available actually base their designs on this one, but they are usually cheaper in quality.

Looking forward to read about the assembly of the mk3. I also think about buying this one with the multi material upgrade.

Nice, well I'll definitely be posting about my experience once i receive the kit, hopefully within a couple weeks.
