Hello dear connoisseurs,
choosing The best restaurant of the year for yourself was not easy. The quality of the food is very important, but also the friendliness of the service, the choice of food, how comfortable I feel during my stay there and above all how often I have been there. After all, one does not visit a bad restaurant again. It is amazing that in my choice it was not a Bavarian but a Greek Restaurant.
I was really often and very gladly a guest there, specially in the summer time. It is simply a sunny and quiet place in the middle of the city. The Korfu Restaurant is located in the heart of the Bavarian city of Weilheim, only 1 or 2 minutes away from the pedestrian zone. Despite the proximity to the pedestrian zone, there is no hustle and bustle and you can enjoy the peace and quiet.
But let's walk there together and I will show you some more of Weilheim on the way.
We start the short walk at the parish church Mariae Himmelfahrt, which is the center of Weilheim. The building, which is located between the pedestrian zone and Ledererstraße, is one of the largest sacral monuments of the Pfaffenwinkel in Bavaria.
Directly in front of it is the church square Fountain with the Scuffling Boys, which is supposed to embody the former rivalry between the inhabitants of the lower and upper town. This can be recognized by the fact that the boy of the poorer upper town does not wear shoes.
There are many restaurants, bistros and cafés with chairs and tables outside, which invite you to linger in the sun when the weather is fine.
There are also long-established shops with culinary delights and special items such as the flower shop and traditional costume shop.
The babies are already born with Bavarian tradition. 🙂
At the end of Ledererstraße you will find the Alte Fronfeste, which today houses the municipal music school. Until 1992 the prison of the city of Weilheim was located there. The fountain on the forecourt was created by the sculptor Christian Tobin. The surface of the column was provided with a musical notation in the original manuscript of the famous composer Johann Sebastian Bach.
The Korfu Restaurant has also found its place directly on this spot.
I took this picture in summer and I think everybody can see why this restaurant was visited by me so often. It is simply cosy to sit there in summer with a glass of wine or beer and enjoy the sun.
The Korfu Restaurant offers smaller daily menus at lunchtime, but with significantly reduced prices. This is a really good opportunity to eat there and many business people take advantage of it.
In the evening you can choose from a variety of typical Greek dishes like Moussaka, Souvlaki, Bifteki, Gyros, Stifado, Octopus from the menu. Inside it is very cosy and the interior is bright. Do you remember the Greek restaurants 20 years ago. There it was dark and a lot of kitsch was hanging on the walls. The Korfu Restaurant is very modern and the chairs are very comfortable.
Today we chose the Grilled Beef Liver (€ 8,90) and Baked Squid with Gyros (€ 12,90). Both dishes are served with a Salad and as a side dish Rice and Tzatsiki. As you can see, the portions are very large for the price and it not only looks delicious but also tastes very tasty.
In Germany it is not common anymore that the innkeeper gives out a free schnapps after the meal. Here in the Korfu Restaurant after paying we are asked friendly by the waiter if we want another Ouzo on the house.
Of course, we would like to... Cheers!
I wish everyone a happy new year 2020 with success, health and always delicious food so that you can report about it at Tasteem.
