During last weekend, I decided to take a trip to my hometown in Penang. I went there with my mom and my two sons. I have not taken leave for quite some time. So, I decided to make the most of our weekend at Penang and I even extended my leave until today. The driving distance from Kuala Lumpur to Penang is around 5 hours. Thankfully the traffic on the highway was not bad.
When we reach Penang, the first place that we went was to the popular roadside stall called Nasi Kandar Imigresen. My eldest son really loved the rojak they sold there. I prefer their selection of rice and dishes. Their honey-glazed curry chicken is to die for. In terms of taste and pricing, this stall does not disappoint. The food was tasty, and the price is reasonable. for a plate of rice with some vegetables, and honey-glazed curry chicken, I was charged MYR13. In Kuala Lumpur, the same dish would easily cost me MYR23 and above.
What I dislike about the trip was the traffic. The traffic on that day was really bad. Even though it was the weekend. I was stuck in a traffic jam for over an hour. If not because of the delicious food, the whole trip would turn out to be a disappointment. Despite the bad traffic, we were determined to make the most of our trip to go see as much of the city as we could.
We spent the majority of our time exploring and finding the city's roadside stall. Getting some dessert and light bites. We had the Ais Tingkap, Cendol, Mee Goreng, and many more local street food. It's always a treat to try the local street food, especially the one sold in Penang.
Overall, it was a great trip. I was happy to be able to spend some quality time with my sons Despite the traffic, Penang is still a great place to visit and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a weekend getaway.
