GPS, what is it?

 Hello Steemians,

# GPS, what is it? #

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a US-based service providing location, navigation and time reference services, known as PNT services (positioning, navigation and synchronization). It consists of three segments: the space segment, the control segment and the user segment. The United States Air Force is responsible for the development, maintenance and operation of the space segment and the control segment.

# The satellite space segment: #

The space segment consists of a nominal constellation of 24 operational satellites that transmit unidirectional signals, which give the positioning and time of the GPS network.

# The control segment: #

Consists of stations around the world that are responsible for driving and monitoring the system; they ensure the maintenance of the satellites in orbit, proceeding if necessary with manipulations and the adjustment of the clocks of the satellites. These stations track GPS satellites, download updated navigation data, and record the health status of satellites.

# The user segment: #

comprises the GPS receivers, which receive the signals from the satellites and calculate, on the basis of the transmitted information, the three-dimensional position and the time reference of the user.

I hope you have a little idea about GPS.

 Happy week-end Steemians
