Flying Taxis Get A $30 Million Boost

Volocopter has been working on its plan for flying taxi vehicles for some time now and they just recently got a very lucrative investment from Mercedes-Benz's parent company Daimler; among other investors.

Volocopter is a Germany company that has been working to develop a flying taxi vehicle that is going to be able to both take off and land vertically, as well as seat up to 5 people.

The plan is to develop vehicles that are emission free, quiet, and efficient in providing people the ability to avoid traffic congestion and opt for another mode of travel. It will also allegedly be able to be flown by anyone who has a sport pilot license. But those without such a license will also be able to access the vehicles, when they are used for the forthcoming flying taxi system by Volocopter, that could be just a few years away.

The recent $30 million investment from Daimler is going to help to push things forward for them; speed up the process.

Volocopter has the ambition to conquer the air taxi market and we should expect to see a demonstration of their flying vehicle in Dubai sometime later this year. The reason that Dubai was chosen as the location for the test is allegedly because the city has shown an aggressive desire to move toward automation in the way of transportation. It's suggested that by 2030 that Dubai hopes to automate at least 25 percent of their public transportation initiatives.

The upcoming tests in Dubai starting later this year, are expected to last at least 5 years.

Volocopter doesn't just want to see a small portion of the public experiencing this mode of transportation either, their goal is for every human to be able to fulfill their dream of flying such a vehicle; if they have such a desire.

Along the way, they also hope that their efforts will be able to bring about a solution that can dramatically decrease various mobility issues.

It's expected that the first Volocopter will hit the market by sometime next year.

I really want to fly one of those things lol. Looks like it would be fun.

Very cool project never heard of it thanks for telling us. Daimler sponsors $30 million wow that is a lot money. So in the future we will fly in taxis to our destination that is damn cool the Germans are crazy they are called "THE MACHINES" they do a lot of cool stuff and flying taxis is for sure very cool. Do you know if they will fly electric, with gas or hybrid?

I respect the Germans for always staying ahead of innovation in the machine industry. Thanks for resteeming because that's how i came about this.

Your welcome! Yes they are btw I am a German from Berlin but living the last 4 years in Mauritius. Thank you for your respect of my home country. Have a nice day and steem on :)

Damn! Growing up I had a neighbor who built two-seater airplanes in his garage and thought, that was the s**t! I like this copter idea way more :)

See? One step closer to Uber Ironman, right?

Very nice post ..[In the future where everyone is traveling not by car, but by some kind of aircraft," explained Stephan Wolf, co-chief executive of e-volo, the company behind the remarkable flying machine.] --Really Awesome post thanks !!....My new post ...[Akshardham Temple]

Maaaaan, the future is exciting! :D

Gonna be sick when it launches!

Wow...thats amazing.

While this sounds awesome, I think it's gonna be a while before regulations can catch up and allow technology like this to be viable in the marketplace.

Hmm I don't think anyone will be able to fly such a thing. Way too difficult!

Its gonna be a reality one day..nothing can stop it...too much congestion on the roads..its the future!

reminds me of the old children's Tv cartoon 'The Jetsons' of the 1960's. I am surprised it has not been done sooner. It is indeed a fascinating concept. It does still bother me to give up the idea of control to the powers that be. If it is automated and electronic they can shut if off and make out immobile if you do not comply with their government platform. In other words they will have the control to allow you or not allow you to be mobile. It is a trade off as is most of the candy they offer us. Thanks for sharing the intriguing post. - Troy

Wow that looks absolutely incredible.
Of course Dubai would try to have flying taxies.
I can't wait to see what they are like in full swing.
Thanks for this enthralling post @doitvoluntarily

Great post!
I think the flying taxis will solve a lot of the congestion problems in countries like India or China, if they decrease in cost enough to be financially practical in these countries.

Wonderful material :)

its just AWESOMMMEEE!!

This will be the future mode of transport. Streets are now crowded with vehicles of all sorts and a supposed 10mins ride could take hours in heavy traffic. This is the key to that.

Science developed int technological advancement. Having volocopter is an achievement in present age.

Cool idea, but I wonder how many of those would be up in the same area at one point in time. May be something similar to the opening credits in "Futurama"
