Initially, when you newly bought your phone, you so much loved it because of it’s amazing fast speed.
But a few months later your phone begins to slow down and even freezes during operation. Playing of games becomes a very annoying task, navigating between apps and even surfing through the web takes forever to load.
Well I'll tell you today that your not alone, it’s a common problem amongst phone users irrespective of the brand, being it Apple, Tecno, Samsung etc. Fans from these big brands often complain about how slow their phone became compared how it was few months ago.
In this article I will be sharing with you the top reasons why your phone slows down.
What made my Android phone slow?
So many things contribute to making Android phones slow. But I’m going to talk about the ones which plays an in-negligible role in slowing down Android phones.
The following are the reasons your phone slows down.
1. Background apps:
One major reason why your phone is slower than it was is because you’ve probably installed more apps to it than the way it came.
Most of these apps needs to run for it to fulfill its purpose e.g email and messaging apps needs to run for it to be able to check incoming emails and messages etc.
But it becomes abnormal when too many useless apps are running In the background.
And every running app makes use of the RAM. This logically implies that the more the apps running the lesser the RAM you’re being left with to work with.
How you can fix it?
you’ll agree with me that you can’t solve a problem without realising the source. So to find the apps consuming your RAM.
Go to your phone’s settings menu.
Scroll to the bottom where you’ll find developer options.
Oops didn’t find developer options in your settings menu. Relax your phones version is not out of date it simply means that you’ve not done the simple trick.
To enable developer options, navigate to about phone, scroll down to build number, tap on build number 8 times. Return back to your settings menu and you’ll see the developer options.
- Click on developer options.
- Visit running services. Here you’ll find all the apps slowing down your phone.
2. Lack of storage space:
Another factor is limited phone storage. Your phone will definitely slow down when your internal storage is full or almost full.
Although the reasons are beyond the scope of this post. But I’ll give you some tips to fix this problem.
How can I fix it?
One solution to this problem is to frequently back up photos and videos then delete them from your phone’s memory. You can perform this action using Google photos.
Also ensure you delete apps you no longer use from the Phone’s memory. And also delete file that are no longer needed.
3. Operating systems updates:
Every new device comes with an operating system that was specially designed with the phone's hardware specs in mind.
As time changes Technology industries improve drastically. Google adds additional features to it’s new OS's with the new hardware specs in mind.
But if you upgrade an Android 4.4 KitKat device to Android 7 Nougat, you’re actually doing the device great harm than good. As it does not have enough computing power to run the OS hence the device tends to become slower.
How can I fix it?
My advice for you is that you should enjoy or endure your device with the OS it came with. But if at all you want to upgrade, don’t go for major upgrades like Android 7.0 to Android 8.0, instead freely upgrade from Android 7.0 to Android 7.1.
But if you really want have a feel of the major upgrade, upgrade the phone itself rather than the OS.
4. App updates.
Although you might not have had any major operating system update. But you’re definitely enjoying the cool features of new app versions in your phone.
Most of these new app versions are designed for higher hardware specs.
But you won’t blame the developers, because Technology only becomes more user friendly due to this small upgrades.
Let’s take for example most of you reading this post are no longer using Android 4.4 KitKat instead you’re using a higher Android version with cool new features and better apps, right? But for those of you using an old Android version, you will find it frustrating to cope with these cool app updates.
How can you fix this?
When some of you may be thinking of sticking to the old versions of apps, in your phone in order to avoid the app updates issue. This will actually do more harm than good by slowing down your phone, because an outdated app is as good as an expired product.
So ensure your apps are all updated. I recommend that you download the lite versions of the apps you’re using. As these apps requires less RAM to function in turn reduces the risk of slowing down your phone. Or better still I’ll advice that you get a new phone with with a better OS.
