Why I got a Google One membership

in #technology2 years ago (edited)

Google One costs $2.49 per month for 100GB of cloud storage. If you pay for a year in advance it's $24.99 per year, which is a $4.89 saving.

However, I made this video to specifically talk about why I paid for it. As I have my own website with Namecheap and I also have a Microsoft Office subscription, I already have other cloud storage elsewhere, so I didn't need the 100GB. I also have a Pixel phone which means I can save as much video / photos on Google Photos anyway without increasing the storage.

So why did I spend the money to get Google One?

The number 1 reason is because I am very close to exceeding my storage limit for Gmail. I have been using Gmail since 2004. There is a lot of information on it and because there is a 15GB size limit, I am already at 14GB and chances are it will go over in a couple of months if I don't upgrade to Google One. I could apply for another email address and probably get more space from another email, but that means I will have to change my email address with a lot of organisations who I have told this is my email address (e.g. the government, banks, ebay, etc etc). I will also be checking multiple email accounts, which is just a big waste of time. I would rather keep using this gmail account and pay the money.

You might ask why I don't just clear out my inbox to save some space. That is because if I have to do that every few months, I might as well spend the money so I don't have to clear out my inbox.

Another benefit of Google One is that if you have a family, it's the same price and they also get to share your 100GB data (not counting their own 15GB quota). So for example if you have 4 people in your family, by paying for Google One 100GB plan, you will be able to use 100GB+15GB+15GB+15GB = 145GB in total for the 4 of you, which is a good benefit.

Finally, I decided to get a Google One membership because Youtube pays me through Adsense for my Youtube channel, so I feel like I should give something back to Google. I don't mind supporting Google One by giving them a couple of dollars a month when Google is paying me for creating Youtube Videos.

Do you have Google One? Why/why not? feel free to comment!
